Rigol DS1102E is probably the most popular of the sort of entry level digital scopes. But $400 delta is a little bit of money. 400 can buy a lot of food, hobby supplies, etc. Rigol scope is great. But for someone who is just starting out and doesn't know if he likes this hobby or want to stay with it, Rigol for $400 is a huge expense. Buying the cheapest one for now is not a bad idea.
