| I had the same problem ,
restart your pc, get into bios setup , config, parrel ports, change to ecp, and addy must be 378,
go to windows 98 control panel , click system , device manager tab, remove all printer ports ,
LAST STEP :
go to add new hardware (in control panel ) and make sure you dont let it detect itself , select from a list , and chose ecp printer port , not printer port.
restart pc
if that dont work then try everything again , but dont do the LAST STEP , just restart pc
