Pull up Desktop Manager and open up the application loader. When you attempt to update your software you'll notice it won't pick up ur phone because of the usb problem u r having. At this time, connect ur phone to the USB cable and immeditately click on OK once u see ur USB PIN.
this will recover ur phone and then u can try the multiloader all over again. sry, I'm not an expert so this is the only way I know of. It happened to me too and I'm still stuck with a locked 8900
