I have already been through the procedure.
so here it is what I have done:
My Iphone 3gs was on 4.2.1/ 05.15.04 baseband
• I used redsn0w to install cydia and upgrade the baseband to 6.15.00
• note: here once jailbroke you cant use cydia, to use it you have to use redsn0w again, load the same firmware ,uncheck all the boxes and check the box “tethered now” which will reboot your iphone and allow you to use cydia.
• -open cydia and install ultrasn0w
• -note: Once the reboots chances are high that you get stuck on the apple logo which keeps rebooting, to solve this:
use greenpoison and in DFU mode jailbreak, you will be able to get on the main screen and use your phone.

The phone I have seems to be barred as I dont get any signal and tried different simcards but I think its unlocked because I used the virgin sim card and gives full signals.
