Thank you very much...

It works perfectly, would you happen to have an overview of the features. It also has the so beloved (by me ;)) native feature for a hotsync.

What do you mean "paste" the modded files? They are binaries! You mean attach? not allowed to attach them! just download them from the guide! or are they not working?

Has anyone managed to figure out what's new/changed in v1.4.3.x over 1.4.2.x?

Thanks,

Tom

Jon mentioned about being low on webserver bandwidth.

Hey leemperor, did you check with Jon befor posting that direct link?

I will be mirroring some files soon on a fast connection, so hang on people ;).

Jon is currently working on making a better tutorial for switching from MS drivers to the WIDCOMMs. If anyone has problems with the MS drivers, let me know as I have got them working as well as they work [and yes there are real bad bugs in em]. PM or email me :)

:)

Derek - I am Jon! I'm not sure that I checked with myself about posting a direct link, but I'm sure I don't mind :)

I don't mind anyone hosting, ripping, copying, linking, etc. anything to the guide. It's simply there to help people. I would "encourage" people to primarily link to the main page of the guide though, because as new information becomes available I put it on there! Obviously it would be a hassle to have to update a lot of mirrors.

By the way, in terms of bandwidth, I'm just about surviving. I get 1.5Gig/month from my webhost, last month i used almost exactly 1.1Gig and I'm over 1Gig already this month. 2/3 of the way through the month, and I've used 2/3 of the bandwidth! Not sure what I'll do when I run out :)

There are 2 mirrors now available, 1 is from my own PC at home, so I'm hoping it doesn't punish my ADSL line too much!

Also, I have now got a copy of the Microsoft stuff, so I will deliberatley pollute my own system with it soon, and figure out the best way to kill it. I'll also try to get it to co-operate - then there will be 2 alternative methods to getting everything working. I will also be adding details of how to get Toshiba laptops working (some of them seem very stubborn!)

Finally, I'm thinking of creating a submission page for PID and VID combinations. I will add a copy of btwusb.inf to the patched files download - so people won't have to edit the file themselves I hope. If anyone has any VIDs and PIDs that aren't in the file by default if they can either post here, or e-mail me the details I would much appreciate it..

:)

~Jon

Yes, it is so that you can use any dongle. If you don't patch it, then you are prompted for a license.dat file, and it won't work until you give the software one that corresponds to your hardware.

leemperor

The patch applies the same hack to 3 files. Each files has 2 hex strings edited. I believe that one of these enables the driver for use with any hardware, and the other enabled the driver for use with any version of windows.

However it works (and I wasn't the one who discovered the original hex strings) it means you can use the drivers for any dongle on an version of windows that supports USB (so not windows 95A or earlier i don't think...)

Hmm, sofar I have not managed to get this to work, patching the 2 first files goes well, but when patching the last one (the dll file) it refuses claims that the file is inaccesible, if I try to delete it and replace with the already patched w2k refuses to delete it since it claims its already in use.
Have tried tp patch before I even reboot the PC to see if it was BTTray locking it, bit seems that there is something else, anyone that have had similar problems?

Using Belnik F8T001 V1 Dongle and wants to pair it with a Jabra BT200 headset.

I so you want to replace this file wbtapi.dll, just renamed like wbtapi.bak and copy already patched one. after reboot you can delete wbtapi.bak and you bluetooth driver work perfect.

Hey I've got the patcher. Thanks Pcristi. Which version of the Widcomm software do you think I have to use? I want to pair a 3COM PC card with Sony ericsson headset. I downloaded it from the HP site but there is no version on it.

hehe, I kind of realized that a couple of ours later, think I had a temporaly brainclou, since I am workign as an administrator on W2K servers :p

However it didn't help anything, there is no way to pair a Jabra BT200 to a Belnik F8T001 V1 dongle, and the suppoer will not help me by letting me upgrade to a F8T003 even though I want to pay the difference in price if any,so I am stuck with a dongle that is not up to the standard I need :(

Drivers are now 1.4 and they have a headset profile, it just don't detect the headset at all, so I will have to find a ner dongle.

My bluetooth how-to guide is available at http://www.jonsguides.com/

While reading the how-to guide , in the driver installation procedure it gives a line "Previously this section detailed the installation and patching of the Widcomm drivers. I have removed this information at the request of Broadcom Corporation." Now no one can understand that how the files should be patched.

Thank you SO much! I just spent a couple hours trying to find ANY bluetooth driver that would work with my Kensington USB Bluetooth adapter. They didn't post the driver on their site and the CD is long gone, so I thought I was going to have to buy another one. This worked perfectly!

I might have done something stupid, but neither of the hex strings you provide were found in the IBM driver (I downloaded it from the link you provided). Do you by any chance have an update--or the version of the driver for which the patches worked?

I downloaded a MSI version 1.4.3.4 driver from a link I found in Mike's Bluetooth guide (http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=73449&r=a)

I patched the following files with the codes mentioned above:
BTTray.exe
BTStackServer.exe
wbtapi.dll (Modified copy and replaced original v\file under save mode)
btsec.dll

I still get the license error if I click "Start using Bluetooth".

What might be the problem? Do I need to download IBM's driver, this is not the preferred option, since The Widcomm drivers are massive and take +- a hour to download. (I have 64K ISDN dail-up)

I am running a Athlon 64 3200+ with Windows XP Pro SP2 (32-bit) and have a InnoVISION(www.ivmm.com) Wavelinker dongle (VID 04FD, PID 1000) that is detected as a Microtune USB Device by WIDCOMM drivers. SP2 drivers does not detect the device by default and I have trouble getting Nokia PC suite to work with them after manually adding the VID and PID to bth.inf (not renamed. Custom addition removed).

The dongle came bundled with WIDCOMM 1.3.1 and the newest version on innovision site is 1.3.2.7 (Which hangs at installing bluetooth modem). The original drivers worked on my previous PC (maybe USB2.0 on new is the problem). The microsoft drivers pair the 6600 by PC Suite for 6600 (ver 1.1) with mRouter3 beta would not connect to it. Can send files to phone with driver features on both drivers. Same results with original drivers.

Any other recommendations?

im having problems with the Widcomm 1.4.3.4 driver
i have MSI PC2PC Bluetooth and Windows XP SP2 installed
at first i had problems installing my bluetooth beacuse SP2 installs the drivers for my device but i was able to solve it by the Updare driver option..

anyway my problem now is when i installed the 1.4.3.4 plus the patch, followed instructions - detection of phone, sending of files from PC to Phone works fine...

Hi All, I'm new here too. I was using widcom 1.4.2.10 (I think that was the release). I tried to get my BT headset HBH-20 working on my lap top as my head set. I am using Tecom dongle BT3030. All looks ok but thee is no audio. I know it is not the headset as i tried it on a friends's laptop and it worked fine. He has xp BT that came with it, HP laptop. Everyting i read said i should get the new release 1.4.3.4. I downloaded it from MSI along with a patch i found on this site, although i can not find the patch now. I instaled the software and when i ran the patch it says it can not find various files. I can find them when i search on c:. first it says btstack.exe can not be found or is not accessable, i can find it on my c:. I read all the thread, even the one about doing it in dos. My dos is rusty on xp pro, each time i go to run and type command it shuts down. Can anyone help? I tried the jonesguides.com but it is down. Not sure if this is temporary or permentnat.

Same Problem as mine.
I've got a Sony Vaio VGN A-297-XP with Sony intergrated Bluetooth.
I have found a way to get the Widcomm Stack working with the Bluetooth controller, also my Logitech mobile freedom headset is found, unfortunately the headset is not working.
After pairing and connecting successfully there is only trash heared for one or two seconds, then it hangs up (the bluetooth stack).

Has anyone an idea ?

For those who stumbled onto this thread via Google and cannot figure how to work this trick...... (You do not need a patch, you can do it yourself!)

Just get a hex editor and download the WIDCOMM stack from IBM (find IBM link in posts above)
Run the file and let it unpack somewhere
Hex edit the BTW.MSI file (replacing the 2 hex strings from the post in this thread).
Install using SETUP.EXE but do not reboot yet.
Use Task Manager to kill these processes, in case they are running: BTStackServer.exe and BTTray.exe
(you may also have to stop one or two bluetooth-services that come with XP, I forget, look for them in the services.mmc panel)
Go to the install location, usually C:\Program Files\IBM\Bluetooth Software
Hex edit 2 files: BTStackServer.exe and BTTray.exe (again replacing 2 hex strings).
Click on START, then Run... and type: net stop spooler
Then go to your system-directory, usually C:\WINDOWS\system32
Hex edit 2 more files: btsec.dll and wbtapi.dll (again replacing the 2 hex strings).
And finally reboot... You are all set!

At least, that's how it worked for me and my CBT100U dongle.
Use your common sense and you'll get there.
This newer stack solved some issues I had, so thanks bunches to the OP!
