First of all, I have searched through the forum for answers to these questions before I posted this thread. That having been said, let's continue!

I have a Siemens S40, v5.0.0 locked to Cingular here in Southern California. At least I think it's locked to Cingular... there are no Cingular markings on the phone, just the "S40" logo at the bottom.

Question 1:
Is there any way to tell if this phone is locked or not?

I need to unlock this phone (if it isn't already) to use in Spain this summer, and I had a couple of questions. I've read that you need an unlocking cable, not the OEM data cable.

Question 2:
Does it really matter which kind of cable you use, or do people just say that because it's so hard to find an OEM cable?

I have an OEM data cable, and with Freia build 9 I was able to read my entire 4MB firmware and EEPROM with no problems. After this successfully completed, I was under the impression that either type of cable will work.

This last question goes out to S40 owners...

Question 3:
What are the benefits of upgrading my firmware to v9.0.0, and if I choose to do it, do I also need to upgrade my EEPROM, or is just the firmware fine?

I've read this thread (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=95501&highlight=s40+upgrade+step), which does not mention upgrading the EEPROM. Also, in that thread, the link to S40 workshop isn't valid anymore. A Google search found me a new link here (http://www.gsm-support.net/shop/download/index.php?idcat=18&) (as of right now, it works). As far as upgrading to v9.0.0, my version 5.0.0 has never given me any problems, so there needs to be significant improvements to get me to upgrade. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!
