If it's from England then there should be some kind of indication on the case of the phone! or under the battery! Otherwise you could try the codes for the UK networks below doing a sort of trial and error:

Be careful though, coz u've only got 5 tries! I'd suggest (if you are sure it's from England) going for code 1 on each operator until it gives an affirmative - then doing the other codes for that operator if required.
If you're interested the codes are for:
1=MCC+MNC
2=GD1
3=GD2
4=IMSI
5=MCC+MNC+GD1
6=MCC+MNC+GD1+GD2
7=All Locks (Universal - multilock)

Once number 7 is used for some strange reason, which I don't know, the phone opens all of 1,2,5 and 6 but will not allow you to enter the 3 - 4 codes. It comes up with a message "Not Allowed". I've noticed it on Orange UK DCT4's
