I have written an utility which should unlock NEC camera phones, in particular 525/515 (n22/n34). This autodetect various settings, so it may work with other models.

The Nec341i is virtually identical to the NEC 525 which I tested this on.
Yes, this uses the USB Cable with the virtualized serial port, and SHOULD auto-detect.
If you try it, please let me know the PTE number that it displays so I can update the documentation.
If the "unlock" command doesn't work, it might help if you send me the results of "read 0 1" -- this is the
configuration area.

I'll need to look at the 341i memory editor and find
the "UsePteCommand,#####" number for it (for those curious,
do a google search, you'll find numbers for the 221i and 224i's listed, but not 341i -- so sad).

Can someone with phones other than a 341i please try this?

You should set the usb cable to emulate serial. It seems that is how this software works.

Which model are you testing with?

This software works 100% with ATW locked NEC525 and NEC515.
If you dont believe me go to the ATTWIRELESS.COM site. Many people are unlocking their phone with that utility. and FOR FREE !!!
I have tested it on both models.
You must have the NEC/OEM usb cable as well as the NEC usb driver installed on your PC.
The utility disable the locking module of the firmware. After unlock if you press *#7230# the phone will show "not executed" rather than no lock.
The only side effect is that after unlock, all your call history (calls placed, received, duration etc...) will be deleted, but they will start recording again as you use your phone.
Everything else works perfectly.
I have tested my 525 and my wifes 515 with other providers SIM : Cingular, Tmobile, Verizon and all cards are now accepted by the phone and I can place and receive calls with any SIM.

Just for info, I was able to unlock mine with a non NEC USB cable I got on Ebay.

If the utility has not returned any error message, your phone should now be unlocked.
If you press *#7230#, the phone should say "not executed" or "not supported" this is normal as the network locking module is now disabled.
Have you tried another SIM in your phone ?

That's what I thought. I have not heard of anyone being able to use this software with that phone yet- all the same problem as you.

It works great on the American ones though... funny there is a difference in the firmware somewhere I guess.

If you are getting "PTE Incorrect" on an NEC 525.

Create a bat file, ptescan.bat
It contains:
set pte=100
:loop
nectalk -pt pte %pte% unlock
set /a pte=%pte%+1
goto :loop

Then, run this and wait. If you hit the PTE eventually, your phone will power off.

started your bat file off and it is running as I speak, currently up to 340 and still no success.

The E525 doesnt work with Memory Editor a525 as we get a erro message saying invalid hhp, but it does work with the PIE3 editor.

If I put in the *#7320# code I get Network Lock 240/10

The provider in the UK is O2(formerly BT Cellnet)

Up to 402 now still no luck.

Is there any more info we could give you that might help you develop software to unlock this version?

Hello to all, just wanted to post results on my unlocked phone.

phone: nec 515 (at&t wireless USA)
ver: PC0380
OS: WIN XP PRO
Cable: USB (marked NEC N8) after market from ebay.
drivers: oem drivers from NEC website as posted around this forum.

Originally had my com port setup on 19 because it was according to my
pc the only one available. Today I changed it to com 2 even though windows
told me I may recieve error's because it was already taken. Any way I followed the procedures listed here ex: RUN>CMD>C:\nectalk -pt unlock

At first I got an error stating no comport found to enter it in manually.
Since I did not know at the time how to enter it manually I tried it again
to see if I get the same results. this time it said that it auto found the
phone on com 2 and gave me the results of pte 0079. Then I pressed
*#7230# send and got back the message "NOT SUPPORTED" which is
supposed to be an indication of successfully unlocking the phone. I tried
a Tmobile sim card and sure enough the phone WAS unlocked.
Thanks to the creator of the program and all who have submitted tutorials.

or contact with stalewind, but imho nectalk isn't support to 341.

You stated that your software was for 525 and certainly worked as advertised for US and UK phones. AND FOR FREE !!!
you are even taking the time to try to help other NEC users with other models.
You do not deserve any flack. It probably come from users who were charging top money to unlock the 525's.

I used your software and gave copies to friend who wanted to unlock their phone, and all of them are satisfied.

Thank you for the time you have put in that utility and the way you gave it for free for all to use.

Im a little confused... I have downloaded everything i need to unlock my NEC 525 but im not sure how to do it. so after i plug the phone in with the usb cable and plug it into the computer, do i open up the file where i extracted nectalk...or do i open up a command prompt and put in \%NECTALKLOCATION%\nectalk -pt unlock...if so, everytime i open up a command prompt it automatically starts with C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>. can i just paste the \%NECTALKLOCATION%\nectalk -pt unlock into there right after or do i have to have the command start off with C: only. A detailed step by step instruction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help! A picture of what the command prompt screen should llok like would also be a big help.

hmm looks like you need to learn some DOS because that is what the command prompt runs in.

to go back in a folder, type "cd.." and push enter
do that until you are in just C:
then use "CD" to Change Directory, and then the folder name to go to that folder
using that, navigate your way to the folder where nectalk is located and proceed from there.

You need:
USB cable
Install drivers
Downlad and unzip nectalk utility to a folder on your HDD.
Plug cable to PC USB port (do not plug in a secondary USB hub, but directly to PC USB port).
Phone is turned on.
Connect phone to cable.
Phone is detected by PC.

You need:
USB cable
Install drivers
Downlad and unzip nectalk utility to a folder on your HDD.
Plug cable to PC USB port (do not plug in a secondary USB hub, but directly to PC USB port).
Phone is turned on.
Connect phone to cable.
Phone is detected by PC.
Run NEctalk in dos mode as described earlier on this thread.

hi guys nec 341i can be unlocked go to www.aggty******.com software nec341i unlocker and drivers xp then unzip install ,usb cab then run soft try com 8 that it connected to pc as modem if com 8 not work go to configuration panel, ksystem then searsh modem click 2 times u will find what com it connected
now read u will have nck and procedure !!!!
tested by me work 100%!!! enjoy

Well as far as I know (and I could certainly be wrong), this is the only free software able to unlock 515/525/525UK without opening the phone or spending any $ other than the cost of the USB sync cable !
So unless you have something better and less expensive, this is the best solution for these 3 phones.

well coming from america I tend to ahree with you.But in other parts of the world there are e313,c313,e616,e228s and more to come so you need to keep up with time.

i have nec e 525 and i'm trying to unlock(simlock AT&T) my phone with your instructions but it doesn't work. i've done:

and my phone switched off but when i put different card it shows invaild card.
what should i do?

so you suggest to try more times. have you tried this? did it work at the first time to you? and i saw that it doesn't work on win xp, is this true? because it's emergency, i have to unlock it till tomorrow evening. and one more thing. when i'm trying to unlock which sim card should be in the phone or i should do it without
