Question about text messages...

I have heard from several people that text messages you send, get stored on the providers servers for long periods of time (like 10 years).

This seems excessive to me... I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of how providers usually handle text messages.

The 2 specific providers I am interested in are T-Mobile and Verizon

Depends on the TTL set for the message itself, I think the maximum is about a month. I know SP's in the UK store them for at least a couple of weeks since when there were network problems a couple of years ago a lot of messages were not getting through, then I got them all at once 2 weeks later.

TTL can be set in the SMS profiles/setup (validity period)
