well, in fact, that file is compacted in RAR, like most of the files of symbian software.

so, first thing to do is rename it to *.rar and extract it using winrar.

then, try finding some compatible software to read it.

try opening it with notepad for example. you will see many familiar names. like for example, i bet you had in ur contact list names like:
laxar arbitru, anca luca, tv nae, uve, dan georgescu, etc etc etc

its not easy to read the file in notepad. but it is a start ;)

and one more thing: for your own security reasons, i recommend you to remove attachment from your post.

My own trick:

1> Get another S60 device,
2> make backup of it's phonebook with it's PC Suite,
3> in the folder, where is the backup saved (default is C:\Nokia\Yourphone'sIMEI#\backup) find "filestore.dat.txt" and search in this for "contacts.cdb".
4> When you find "contacts.cdb" in the text, at the beginning of the line you will see a number, e.g. 587, so you must search for the "587.dat", because this is the "contacts.cdb" (in incognito)! :)
5> if you found it, make a safe backup!
6> Now rename your "important" "contacts.cdb" to "587.dat"!
7> Overwrite the "original" "587.dat" with this renamed file, but firstly make sure you got a backup!!!
8> Now make a "Restore phonebook" with PC Suite, and voila! Your important "contacts.cdb" is in the phone, fully readable and printable, etc... :)
9> If you successfully finished printing out the important contacts from the phone and want to restore this to original state, just copy back the original "587.dat" (what you saved for backup) to "backup" folder, and overwrite the renamed "587.dat" with it!
10> Then make a "Restore phonebook" with PC Suite again, and the S60 device is working in it's original state again with it's original phonebook... :)

The process is same for the calendar data ("calendar.dat"). :)

I hope this will help you... :)
