Hey Guys.

Well here is a short guide on how to unlock the NEC e616. I got this cell phone 4 months ago in the 3 Duo pack. One of the two cell phones didn't work and after two software updates I tried to get a replacement phone from 3. And now, after four (!!!) months fighting with 3 I have still the two NEC, one working and one not :) . So I quit the contract with that fu..... phone company. I still think that the cell phone itsself is pretty cool but my advice to everybody is to stay away from 3, they have the worst service ever!!!!!
So since I still have the cell phones I tried to unlock them and found a really simple and 100% working solution.
My Firmware is the R06 so I don't know if this works on the other versions so you'll have to try this. To see what your Firmware is enter *#2820#.

Insert the SIM card of your choice.
Enter the PIN and wait. Then the phone should say: Insert the correct USIM card.
Now enter #4960*12345678# (you won't see anything on the display, nothing will happen yet)
Then enter *4960*12345678*12345678# (it should say "USIM lock on" now)
Then enter #4960*12345678# (it should say "USIM lock off" now)
Now turn off the cell phone and turn it back on. Enter the PIN code again and voila, that's it, the SIM card shoud work now. IMPORTANT: you have to make a call in order to get the contacts on your SIM to work. :)

Alright guys, have fun and STAY AWAY FROM 3.

Oh well, I am so sorry moldovan!
If you have a better solution why don't you post it???? And didn't I write that it will only work for the Firmware version R06? It did work for my NEC and that's what counts for me. I only postet this thread because it might help someone so DON'T MOCK ABOUT IT!

Actually, you'll see that the 4960 method has been discussed so many times around here, its becoming a joke. It also doesn't unlock network, only sim. The phone looses most of its functionality using 4960 also.
Its not a good route.

Well if everybody knows better?!? Is there a better solution out there, except for paying money to 3 to unlock it?? I don't see which functions the phone loses. You can make calls and th on board functions still work. Of course you can't use the UMTS services and that GPRS stuff, but whatever.
If anybody knows a better solution just tell me!
