The handset simply would not connect with a c55 com cable?
Any ideas guys?

if you want to upload java patch to phone, you have to use original siemens software (like DES or MPM) - download from siemens site.
and use original DATA CABLE (attached with some phones),
can be used data cable from x55/x60 series.

So the consensus is no special cable is needed. my usual c55 cable can be used ?

I have this problem too. Try to upload java patch via IRdA and original Siemens Data Exchange Software (DES), this work great for me.

use standart x55 cable (RX,TX,GND), but need some changes:
between 5 and 2(GND) pins - 10-15K resistor
and between 7 and 2(GND) pins - 10-15K resistor

flashing + DES working well
tested 100% :-))
