http://eh.student.utwente.nl/~landy/M55/M55_110404.zip
I went to this site and downloaded the M55_100101.zip (for upgrading my M55 v9 to v10). I have a USB cable on COM3, with USB-to-serial bridge installed.
I've never used WinSwup before, so do I just select COM3 and 115200 as speed? I have no idea how to map my COM port to 1 or 2 as required by the factory update on siemens-mobile.com.
Is there anything I need to do to back up the phone before starting out on this? I was thinking of using Freia to save the original .fls and EEPROM Tools to save the original EEPROM .eep file.
Please help... and sorry, I'm a newbie.
run winswup ... click OK
click on "Serial config" to configure COM port & baud rate.
my USB cable is on COM3, too ... and i'm always use 115,2k for baud rate.
click OK to apply.
now turn OFF your phone and plug the cable to phone.
check both "Skip" boxes (click OK on poped up warning).
click on "START" -or- "START and CLOSE" and short-click power button on your phone til the program starting to update its f/w.
you can also apply winswup while your phone is ON. just clear all "SKIP" checkboxes and click on "START" -or- "START and CLOSE". your phone will turned OFF automatically and update will begin.
hope you understand ;)

Thank you for your help... I understand what you said. I'll try it when my phone arrives. Just one more question:
If I want to upgrade to v91 soft from same site using WinSwup, I must go from 10>11>91, correct?
Thanks in advance!
i need a file for a A50)
I tried to go to the Twente site
Do you know the password?
Thanks in advance

anuroj_007 is right :)
just make sure you don't break off the update progress ... do not unplug the cable or your comp. turned off ;)
winswup firstly will remove the prev. f/w from the phone then load the new one. if you break it off while update running, you will kill your phone (but it is easy to healed).
Do you know in wich pack(A,B,C etc) is the dutch language ?

Thanks for the answers, guys! :)
So, will WinSwup backup the original firmware? If not, should I save the original firmware and EEPROM using Freia and EEPROM tools respectively?
And yes, I know not to unplug the cable in the middle of an update... ;)
But, how to heal it? Please let me know. I'm curious...
Thanks!!
winswup wont backup any data.
so it will be better if you create some backups ... fullflash, boot/bootcore, and eeprom ... Freia is enough to do all of these jobs.
to heal your died phone, as long as the bootcore is good, simply load a good fullflash backup into your phone. and then, if necessary, do unlock.
if the bootcore is damaged, then you need to play a hardware trick ... "cut testpoint" to allow software like Freia to be connectable to your phone -- please search+read another thread about testpoint. after that, load a good boot/bootcore backup and reload a good fullflash backup or run winswup.
hope you understand (i'm be confused when writing a long explanation in English) :D :D

Your explanation was excellent! Thanks! I know how to backup fullflash and EEPROM, now, how do I backup boot/bootcore? Do I just go "Read flash from phone" > "bootcore"? And do the same for EEPROM1 and EEPROM2?
Thanks, I appreciate your help.
Almost right :)
But for boot data, you should select "phone model: Siemens M55 Boot".
At this mode Freia will access the boot area.
Then click [Read flash from phone].
Choose "firmware" preset to backup 2MB boot area, and/or "bootcore" to backup 64K bootcore data.
