Ok i did this last Night with a virgin sim(NEC E313 3G UK).Ok so heres how:
1.Take out Battery
2.Put a 2G Sim In
3.Put Battery In
4.Turn on your phone
5.Click Emrgcy
6.Dial 112
7.Click Send
8.It will say "Unable to Establish Call in GPRS/2G Mode.Switch to 3G Mode for next attempt"
9. Click Yes
10.It will say Changing Network Mode,With an Hour Glass
11. When the Hour Glass Stops hang up or you will be put through to emergency Services
12.a picture of a sim card and a 2 inside it will show up in the right hand corner
13.Type in #4960*xxxxxxxx#
14.Then *4960*xxxxxxxx*xxxxxxxx#
15.Click Menu
16.There you go

To make a phone call:
1.Click Menu
2.Click Virgin Extras
3.Click Top-Up
4.It will say Top-Up?
5.Click Yes
6.When it calls it,dial your number and press the call button
By the way X=Any Number
