From what I heard, it causes the 650 to reset - probably due to Palm writing some extra code to not let people do this.
Best of luck, I have a treo 650 (sprint) and would love to upgrade to 4.5!!

I know it's bad form to quote yourself, but I found a work-around to the Worldmate expiration that the patched version experiences after 30 days:

Because MobiMate's Server keeps a record of your hardware's serial number, you can go into "saved preference" & look for "WrMp 1071", which contains your "ROM ID" + "000", simply change a few digits & you can use WorldMate Pro for another month.

So you can keep changing the digits everytime it expires again.
You can use RsrcEdit or Resco Explorer (?) to change the WrMp 1071 details as mentioned above, and have wireless weather, currency and flight updates again. It's a pain in the a$$, but better that paying the $75 they want for the app.

I scrolled down to "saved preferences" and tapped open, then scrolled down to "WrMp 1070" and tapped open (make sure "hex edit" is checked). Second that.. This looks like the solution I was looking for in a previous post.. Holidayidol posted some help but if this program does it without going through all the steps the other way takes... COOL!!

I have Softick PPP 2.21 and registered it using this serial: 380A-017K-2EJF-2SEF but they have banned the serial from newer versions, so can anyone get me the latest version and its serial???

For people that still wants to use ChatterEmail 2.1.3+ for some reason, here's the patched version.

Same instructions:

Go to Console (Menu + W) and type:

hotsync (to know your hotsync ID)

And then go to Console (Menu + W) again and type:

oldserver(2 spaces)<HOTSYNCID>(1 space)

I just got done setting up softick ppp, and its works great!!, When I click "about" it still says it needs to be purchased. But before the patch it had a "register" button,, now its gone.. Prolly works fine.. Time will tell.

Only thing I am wondering about now is.. The softick ppp icon in the systray is there but I cannot right click or open the panel, I can hover and it will tell me the status.. only way I find to close it is to END TASK.

another edit... also it will takeover your hotsync bluetooth connection if you have one. or at least take the COMM port. Dont matter to me since I like to use the cable to sync,, MUCH MUCH FASTER!

Some of you know this already, and some of you dont, so I thought I would share this information.

I'm sure many of you listen to music files on your palm device, but dont realize there are many formats to listen too.

Most people talk about MP3 this and MP3 that, but what about other audio files?

Well, for those that want to cram lots of files on their device and not lose too much quality, I suggest you go with ACC+ V2

NOT MP3.

Notice the graph and how you dont lose much quality going from original down to ACC+ Notice now where MP3 is for quality.

Now you need a program to convert your MP3's over to that format.

I use Media Coder and it is a FREE program.

On the right hand side of the program is a window and you want to have the tab set to 3GPP ACC+ and also make sure the box has a check mark in it. Set the bit rate to highest which is 48KBps

Add the files you want or folder you want to encode then start er up.

I went from 112kbps audio MP3 files at 622MB down to 262MB or so with going to ACC+

My files have been played with Pocket Tunes, and at the 48KBps and you CAN NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE OLD MP3 FILES. The only thing you lose is tagging and no album art. But you save 400MB or so and the quality is still superb.

Hopefully this will help some people out and get you more files on your device and still keep amazing quality as well.

I did read this...

AAC+ v2 (not standard AAC+) has parametric analysis and sounds much better at low bitrates. 64kbps OGG files are probably comparable to 24 or 32bps AAC+ v2.

Not too sure myself, but I can say that it does sound good.

Now I have to figure out why I have audio through headphones on everything, wen I run a ringer test I hear sound from the speaker, but no system audio is coming out of my speaker like when playing a game.

Just happened too. Hope it isn't a messed up button up top. I'd almost prefer to switch vibrate on and off with in the device then have to use the slider up top. Anyway no luck so far so I have to figure this out. :confused:

And my speaker isn't broken either since when I test phone ringers they come out the back. Then if I reset the phone the little sound doesn't happen when the splash screen starts.

I hate tech problems.

I think I had mentioned this to you when you asked about a newer blazer version on the 650 (like the one on the 700 or 680). Few pages back, but that's ok since you found that link. ;)

Some are getting close, but seems to be still resetting Treos. Until someone gets it to work you might want to hold off. I know its frustrating, but the worse thing is when you have constant reset loops and you have to hard reset.

Ok, I figured out my sound problems. So for anyone with a 700p, LISTEN UP.

I had the problem like others have had where when you take the headset adapter out (so you can plug headphones in) and it still thinks the adapter is in the bottom of the phone.

This in turn doesn't give you any sound from the device.

So what I did was plug and un-plug the stupid thing until I heard sound.

This basically means.... Yes, and bad audio jack from palm. Or one not very well put together. I've rarely used the thing so I shouldn't have a problem.

Yes, it's quite easy using grack's rom tool (the successor to Shadowmite's rom tool) I basically used it to remove programs like realplayer, versamail, worldclock, tips, language files other than english, etc. Also replaced fatfs.prc with fat32.prc file that allows me to use a 4GB SD card (otherwise only up to 2GB - a fat16 filesystem limitation). I'm excited to hear about the recent SDHC file that allows compatibility to these new memory cards; which a quick look at newegg means an 8GB memory card may be in my treo one day! :)

O.K. all you treo 650 owners gotta check this out BLAZER FAST MODE I have sprint 1.13a so I have no clue what the f or how or if this works so if someone gets it to work please I mean please let me know how you did it I hear this makes the 650 blazer like or better than the 700p

Perhaps Ogg Vorbis is an alternative, too. It has a much better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate. If it is better than AAC I don't know.
Perhaps someone has got a comparison. In the one mentioned above ogg does not appear.

I did read this...

AAC+ v2 (not standard AAC+) has parametric analysis and sounds much better at low bitrates. 64kbps OGG files are probably comparable to 24 or 32bps AAC+ v2.

Not too sure myself, but I can say that it does sound good.

I am *pretty sure* I read that AAC+V2 performs better than Vorbis below 64kbps... but I can't seem to find the source now.

Well, if you open them in PRCEdit, expand the "Alerts" category on the left, expand "Registration" form 1021, expand it's "References" at the bottom, and double click the green arrow. It will highlight a line in the code at the right. The offending line is the one right before that so highlight a part of it and hit F9. It will take you to the hex part. At the spot it takes you to, replace the 6*** with 4e71 and save! Sorry, I'm not at my computer, so I dont remember what the numbers after the 6 are... I'll edit this post later.

(Just for the record, this is all from memory so it may not be *exactly* correct. Use intuition.)

Ok, I figured out my sound problems. So for anyone with a 700p, LISTEN UP.

This basically means.... Yes, and bad audio jack from palm. Or one not very well put together. I've rarely used the thing so I shouldn't have a problem.

I had, essentially, the same problem with my old Zire 71 (the blessed little hand-me-down device that got me started!). It was great at first, but then the headphone jack started getting stuck on... I could jam the stylus into it and wiggle it around and it would 'release' so I could have sound again until the next time I put headphones in it. Eventually, of course, that stopped working. Then I sold it for 100$ to a coworker who busted the screen within two months!

It makes a comparison and if it equals it branches to label 1147, if it's not it copies the letters l,o,s,e,r to the argument and calculates the serial for hotsync ID "loser" (try it on a non patched ChatterEmail). I just changed that BEQ L1147 to a BRA L1147, that is that 0x67 byte to a 0x60.

I just changed one byte (like 99% of the cracks I have made) :)

Haha, I don't know what I was doing. Evidently I become a n00b around midnight :D I tried shutting down Chatter but apparently it didn't actually shut down... for some reason I didn't think to simply delete it and load the new one :rolleyes:

Give this a try (Card Reader v1.05):

I was anxious to try this over Card Export II to see the difference. Card Export II just doesn't seem to do the best. Works ok, but you get freezes on occasion where it locks the device, and if you are in the middle of something like I was when I was re-doing all of my MP3 to ACC+ then you have to reset the Treo and start over.

This is a FREE one so far by Resco. You probably dont see it on the homepage or know it is out, but it is as of 2 days ago.

This is the FIRST BETA VERSION. So expect it to grow.

I don't think at the moment there is a "store feeds to card option" or an OTA or hotsync option like there is for QuickNews. Feeds wont take up too much on the device, its just when you keep all the feeds and images is when things get cluttered.

I am more than positive this will be in future releases. (the above) Give it a few weeks or a month and i'm sure it will pop up. But if anyone would like to see how it compares so far....

I have been enjoying internet radio at work through my unlimited data service and pocket tunes but there seems to be alot of dead links in the genre list, specially the comedy, and its a b!tch to to keep going back and trying the next one and such.

Didn't do it yet, just read the forums / tuts.

-use with unlocked gsm phone (ena rom).
-verify that usb cable works good before doing changes.
-disable hotsync, ..
-use main motherboard usb port
-make a few backup from the original rom.
-don't delete files from rom without knowing what is it for.
-try some minimal modifications first
-use the newest files/utils
-and defenetly few days reading on the 2 forums

Going to remove realplayer, update blazer, update filesystem, when getting an 8gb card.
Until then I'm fine, using zlauncher and almost everything is on a 2gb card.

Don't have to convert it, just resize them 320x320, and put jpg on sd card /palm/programs/zlauncher/backimage/..

Then u can browse them, select it and zlauncher will convert/move to ram only what u use.

I have a Tungsten E|2, and I have about 10+ MB free internal memory. When I install Snails, I have no problem accessing the application or navigating the menu screens. Usually, I can get through to the weapons menu before my Palm either sends a "Fatal Error" message or turns into this complete mess of random lines (kind of like static on a television screen) that I cannot get out of unless I reset my device.

Is it that Snails just isn't compatible with my device, or have I been doing something wrong here? I know this is more or less a troubleshooting question, but if any of you know what's going on, d'ya mind helpin'?

For EngCalc Full 1.4 you can use serial v6BsAJy7M8.
I´ve just tested and it works.
EngCalc uses APPForge runtime and it creates lots of files on internal memory.

now how to convert normal jpg file to Zlauncher background?

Don't have to convert it, just resize them 320x320, and put jpg on sd card /palm/programs/zlauncher/backimage/..

Then u can browse them, select it and zlauncher will convert/move to ram only what u use.

ps.:
If u got more question just register on that forum, it's support and fully legal talk only there, so don't ask for softwares there ;)

The image file needs to be .pdb format.
With zlauncher you can not install a backimage UNLESS you have the jpeglib.prc installed.
There is a program called zlauncher backgroung converter that will do it for you but all you really need to do is MAKE SURE that you have the jpeglib.prc on your device so zlauncher can use this to convert backimages automatically for you.

I have a Tungsten E|2, and I have about 10+ MB free internal memory. When I install Snails, I have no problem accessing the application or navigating the menu screens. Usually, I can get through to the weapons menu before my Palm either sends a "Fatal Error" message or turns into this complete mess of random lines (kind of like static on a television screen) that I cannot get out of unless I reset my device.

Is it that Snails just isn't compatible with my device, or have I been doing something wrong here? I know this is more or less a troubleshooting question, but if any of you know what's going on, d'ya mind helpin'?


(PS: This thread has really shot out of the park the last time I visited. I just got back from holiday and it's taken me about an hour to catch up. You guys are awesome.)

Check with the unpatched version, if that doesn't work, then it's your palm's fault....maybe some other program incompatibility....

Here are two easy to read PDFs to help you out. The first one tells you how to use the ROMtool program and the second is a listing of all the files in the ROM, what they do, which are safe to remove and which are not. The following instructions are based off the Sprint ROM; if yours is another carrier, the file names may be slightly different (for example, SPCS designates Sprint).

1) Basically what you'll want to do is install the ROMtool app, put your Treo into bootloader mode, plug in your hotsync cable and run ROMtool. It will take a minute or two to load the proper data into your Treo. Keep watching the screen on your Treo and eventually an image will pop up with the ROMtool graphic. ROMtool will then say it's ready on your PC.

2) The FIRST thing you'll want to do is BACKUP YOUR EXISTING ROM! This is extremely important should you screw something up! DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! This is done on the Download ROM tab. Save it as a ZIP + MD5. You may want to set the backup as read-only if you'd like to be extra careful.

3) Next, make a COPY of your backed up ROM into another folder. (If your ROM is in a ZIP, you may unzip it to a folder.)

4) Nagivate to the folder you unzipped your ROM files into and delete the following files if you'd like to remove these apps:

World Clock:
Clock.brpc, Clock_enUS.oprc
GetBC/Handago/Downloads:
GetBC.prc, HandangoLauncherApp.bprc, HandangoLauncherApp_enUS.oprc, HandangoLauncherApp_SPCS.cprc, HandangoLauncherApp_SPCS_enUS.lprc

5) Return to ROMtool and then I would recommend you click the Convert ROM Format tab, select an Output location, then select your customized ROM folder as the Input ROM, then Export as a ZIP + MD5.

6) Visit the Upload ROM tab, select your new customized ROM zip, then click the upload button. ROMtool will notify you when the process is completed.

7) Unplug the cable and reset your Treo!

Yes, it does; however, if you remove the Welcome app, there is a builtin touchscreen calibration tool that automatically pops up after a hard reset instead. :)

oi! dont be using wmp bloke... what i suggest is to get away from sync'ing (thereby getting around all drm and potential copy prot. using a card reader or wifilepro (to xfer via wifi) to xfer your meida... btw u want to copy all music / video to the dcim folder on the card (doesnt matter but its the palm standard).

my device used to sync right but after a while, it just stopped and wouldnt do it anymore. i upgraded to pTunes 4.0 and it seems the problem was solved. i havent tried sending music to my device using WMP, but when i have media player open and my treo connected, it recognizes my treo. so im assuming it would work with pTunes 4.0

Yes, it's safe to remove Blazer. I don't know about putting Xiino in ROM, I've never tried; you can always give it a shot. No worries, as you can always reflash the ROM if it doesn't work; that's the beauty of grack's ROMtool :).

Oh and let me warn everyone: DON'T put PDB's in ROM unless you know they are read-only (such as a ZLauncher skin)! If you do, the OS won't be able to write to them and you'll have some major problems with apps crashing and functioning improperly.

I don't use Zlauncher so I didn't know that :).

By the way, some apps will try to save their settings in the app's PRC instead of creating a PDB for themselves, and some are unable to put a PDB in a location other than the parent app; possibly Xiino has this problem. (Maybe since the main PRC is in ROM, it wants to create a PDB for settings in ROM as well.)

I think I figured out how to create an XML using PRCedit (didn't know it had that feature).

I'm using the FAT32 file just fine, along with probably a hundred other people at treocentral. You may have gotten a bad download. Try mine attached.

I just edited my rom for the first time today. I added the fat32 without any problems and the sd enhancement.:D I also deleted real player, the extra language files, the tutorial. I didn't bother deleting the launcher since I dont like zlauncher, and I may delete versa mail and blazer in the future since I'm not using them. I'm not sure if I've seen an improvement in speed. It seems a bit faster.

i downloaded patch and ran , opened up console and typed in command, received all four numerical serials, plus/ex/ce/ssl

deleted pat*h version

installed chatter.prc along with all other 5 files from website

created a pop3 account with yahoo and when i went to quicksync it stated that the registration code is invalid, i went through putting in all 4 of them one at a time... think it is suppose to be first one, plus...but aint working, its a 10 digit numeric number... any ideas...?

Do you just add the file or do you replace the FATFS.prc? and what exactly does the fat32 do does it speed things up?When my treo went into the reset loop I had taken out my card to do the rom upgrade if that means anything????

Don't delete the patch file after you run it. Don't reinstall the unpatched chatter... the patched program is the one you need.

fat32 allows you to run larger sd cards (I.E 4gb) the treo was originally designed only to run 2gb cards

going to do my rom tonight,, I already download my 650;s rom.
Do I just delete the files from the folder I made on the desktop? ace-plamos_rom and add the .prc's that I want(and thats on the working list) to that folder? Drag and drop sh!t?

And since this is all end user possible, why dont they make a rom to turn my treo into a full ****n nintendo DS or SS,, lol or even PSP? Hmmmmm, in 15 minutes or less, turn into NDS. Then when you want your treo back, poof swap roms>? That would be sweeeeeeeet.

I wanted to revisit the MobiTV discussion.

Is anyone successfully using anything other than the 1.0.3h version? I know there was a 1.0.7 or even a supposed 2.0 posted here, but it seemed like nobody could get them to work.

I have 1.0.3h on a Sprint Treo 700p (EVDO) but my streaming quality is HORRIBLE. It is very choppy- about 2 frames per second. Is everyone seeing this or is anyone getting a better quality stream with MobiTV?

i just checked mine and it is 1.0.7h. i got it from this thread somewhere. i too get EVDO speeds and the frame rate is terrible. the audio is acceptable i guess, but the video is not worth watching. has anyone actually got this to work well enough to actually watch?
