some questions about unlocking u8180

i read a lot about unlocking u8180 but there is something thats not clear for me:
i read that some functions are lost after unlocking the model, is that true? and is there any method to not "damage" the functions?

you lost same features because you have to reflash phone with 8138 firmware and so lg 8180 becomes totally like an 8138.Actually is the only way to unlock 8180, only by downgrading to 8138.
