Hi Guys,

I'm new to bluetooth, and ask for some advice. I'm reasonably capable at flashing firmware on other devices.

Last week I bought a BT dongle. Packet says manufacturer is Nimbus, and claims to be BT 1.1 compliant. I have successfully installed it in a desktop running XP SP2, and it communicates OK with a Logitech BT headset and Nokia 6822.

I would now like to enhance it if possible.

On the firmware side, the device reports F/W version 1120, with HCI v1.1 and LMP v1.1 VID is 0A12 and PID is 0001.

The chip is CSR type 31314 3A05, which according to CSR website is a bluecore version 3 capable of both BT v1.1 and v1.2

Would this chip take a flash upgrade to the 1586 F/W, or any other more suitable newer F/W to unlock the built-in v1.2 capabilities. (I have read the threads about using the brain box drivers to upgrade, and assume this is the most appropriate way)

On the software side the CD drivers that came with the dongle have WIDCOMM 1.4.2 build 10. Is it OK to update the drivers? Would the new 4.0.1.2101 be suitable, in either BT v1.1 or v1.2?

I am grateful for any advice.
