Need to do the following: Using a voip application on my laptop (IBM T30)
to make phone calls. Want to use it with some kind of wireless headphone set
so that i can talk through the headset, information to get to laptop
wirelessly and
then to the voip application. Looks like BT can do what I need. However
laptop
doesnt have inbuilt bluetooth so I understand that i will have to purchase
usb->BT adapter
and use it with a BT capable headset. Is that a correct plan?

Here is what i plan to purchase:

either
CARDO Systems SCALA SCALA500 Headset
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826164001

or
PLANTRONICS M2500 Bluetooth Headset
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106052

to be used in conjunction with

either
D-Link DBT-120 Wireless USB Bluetooth Adapter
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833127117

or
Zonet ZUB6101C Bluetooth Device
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833130023

Is this the correct equipment for what i need it to do

another person told me that dlink dongle doesn't have the correct version of widcomm installed (whatever it is) and therefore won't work with my voip application. Can anyone confirm or deny it.

thank you

Why not go for a stereo headset & mic?
It is more expensive but you just have more possibilities.

I am currently looking at buying the following device, to be used with a Dell laptop:

Cellink BTST-9000A (includes a BT v2.0 USB adapter).
http://www.cellink.com.tw/pro-btst-9000a.htm

You should be able to find it online for about $125-140
(it's currently 99 euros in Germany)

Don't know the Scala but the plantronics should be fine.
I would stay away from the USB to BT adapters on your list as they do not seem to be Bluetooth specification 1.2 compliant (firmware may be upgradable, don't know).

I'd try the Iogear GBU311 instead. Several friends use it and it works great.
There may be other good ones but I guess you'll need advice from someone else on those.

zonet usb->BT says that it is Bluetooth v1.2. Am I misunderstanding something or does that mean that it has the latest firmware.

thank you so much for helping me out.

No, you're right about the Zonet. The manufacturer's website say's the same.
Guess I missed that. Sorry. :-(
For an incredible low 7 bucks with the mail-in rebate from NewEgg, I guess it won't hurt to try it out.
