HI guys,

Found this forum while trying to search for a way to use a different BT stack than the Toshiba one.

I recently purchased a Asus W3V laptop with an intergrated bluetooth module. my Device manager lists the bluetooth module as a Toshiba RFBUS (see attached). I've been trying to manually install drivers for it, but i the only way to do that seems to be to install the Toshiba BT stack as well.

I found the Widcomm drivers / stack and tried to install that, it was able to detect the USB Bluetooth CSR and the RFBUS device find, but it could not find a driver for the device named "Toshiba Bluetooth" the Widcomm stack still lists that I have no bluetooth devices installed.

Does anyone know where I can find a driver for this?

Thanks
-Ken

Hi Ken
I just got a W2V and am having similar problems - at first I couldn't even see the RFBUS on device manager. I attached a bluetooth usb dongle that I had lying around and suddently after installing that I can now see the RFBUS, but no other bluetooth devices, and the toshiba bluetooth stat install doesn't seem to have helped (refer attached picture).

Any ideas on what I should be trying next?

Btw did you find Asus tech support as unhelpful as I did?!?!

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Sacha

Hi, sorry it took a while for me to reply.
Here are the steps I took to get the Widcomm stack working:

1) Open up control panel, go to add / remove programs, and remove the Bluetooth Stack for Toshiba.
2) Reboot, and turn off bluetooth.
3) Extract the Widcomm stack you just downloaded, and double click on "setup" to install.
3a) In the middle of setup, it should tell you that no bluetooth devices were found. Just hit cancel to continue to install without finding a bluetooth device.
4) After installation, right click on "my computer" and go to "properties"
5) Click on the hardware tab, and then click on "device manager"
6) Turn on bluetooth. you should hear a few pings as windows detects the "new" bluetooth hardware. When the "add new hardware" wizard comes out, cancel out of it.
7) Back on device manager, look for a device with a yellow exclaimation point next to it (see my very first thumbnail)
8) Right click on the device and go to propertiies. Click on the details tab.
What you need is the Device Instance ID. It should look something like "USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxx" You only need the "USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx\" part.
9) Open up the folder where you extacted your Widcomm stack to, and open the file "btwusb.inf" using notepad.
10) Hit control F and search for "[WIDCOMM]"
11) Under the entry for "Widcomm" you should see things like "%BRCM2045.DeviceDesc%=SUSPENDUSB, USB\VID_0A5C&PID_2101" Insert a line somewhere in there that says "Toshiba Bluetooth=BTWUSB, USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx; Toshiba" without the quotes. xxxx should be the values for your VID and PID ID that you got off device manager eariler.
12) Save changes and switch back to device manager.
13) Right click on your device with the exclimation next to it, and go to update driver
14) Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and hit next
15) On the next screen, select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." and hit next.
16) On the next screen, click "Have disk" then hit browse and find the btwusb.inf file you just modified, and hit OK
17) you should see "Toshiba Bluetooth" now listed in the window. Select it and hit next
18) It should take care of everything automatically then, once the installation is completely, the Widcomm software will start up
19) Download the two 'patched' exe files for the widcomm bluetooth stack. They can be found attached to the first post here: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=215149
20) Reboot your computer in safe mode.
21) Finally, go into the directory where you installed your widcomm stack, and replace the BTTray.exe and BTStackServer.exe with the ones you just downloaded
22) Reboot normally, and everything should be working

I didn't talk to Asus tech support, since I knew they were just going to tell me to use the default toshiba stack ;)

So I went through all the above steps, and I can get the 4.0.1.2101 widcomm stack to run without asking me for a license, but when I try to "Start using Bluetooth," I always get this error message that it can't find a bluetooth device. Device manager sees it, and says that it's active.

This is with Asus z70va (refresh) - I assumed that the internal bluetooth would be the same as (or similar to) the W3V.

Any idea what could be going on?

Hi!
I have a Sitecom bluetooth 2.0Dongle, an dit uses a Toshiba RFBUS.
When i install the Widcomm driver, the driver installs software for "Sitecom BT2.0" but not for the Toshiba RFBUS driver.
Now when i try to do your "How-To" i get stuck on NR.11. the device name for the Toshiba RFBUS is: BLUETOOTH\TOSRFBD\6&1D004AAC.

The driver that came with the dongle works fine, but a litle program called M-Router olny works with the Widcomm driver(I have WIDCOMM 5.0.1.801)..
So if some one knows a way to install the driver, please tell :D

(Im dutch so im trying real hard to explain and translate my problem)

Hi there,

I'm using ASUS V6V with Toshiba Bluetooth
First i've been using Toshiba Stack Driver and Utility which is not working well with several app.

I've been trying to switch to Windows Driver. It is included with SP2. I've try toshiba website which tell me to uninstall and install their stuff called Bluetooth Monitor 2. It is not working and trying to do something i don't know.

I've fixed it by uninstall all Toshiba Stuff. And found out that there're one yellow question mark in Device Manager if it's toshiba driver it would be Bluetooth CSR something like that. Uninstall it and let it be some unknown device

You can check the Device Instance ID in driver property, mine is USB\VID_044E&PID_3001\??? never mind the ??? just use USB\VID_044E&PID_3001. and i open bth.inf in c:\windows\inf\ and modified the file by Add Another line following

Alps Bluetooth USB Adapter= BthUsb, USB\Vid_044e&Pid_3006
with
Alps Bluetooth USB Adapter= BthUsb, USB\VID_044E&PID_3001

Save it

and try to install the driver for that yellow device again. It would result in Windows Finding the device driver and enable the windows bluetooth control panel which is working very well for me right now.

Hi,

I have bought a SonyEricsson m600i, and I'm trying have internet over bluetooth on my phone with a EP-2101\A1 (This comes with Toshiba 3.00 driver, I downloaded 4.00 driver - for XP SP2).
I don't know if anyone has the same setup of phone AND bt stack...
I have been trying almost every setting to make them connected, but I think, EP-2101 needs a NEW driver.
Please have a look at this picture: I can make COM connection, but I can't make a NETWORK connection (DISCONNECTED BT on the picture!!)between my things:

http://wolf.miki.hu/status.jpg (http://wolf.miki.hu/status.jpg)

Does anyone have any idea how to establish NETWORK connection between my SE m600 and my EP2101\A1 BT?

I tried this method above with latest widcomm driver (some 5.1) and it worked and recognized well my m600! But when I entered into it and I tried to click "Personal Ad-hoc User Service on" it said that it can't connect.
