replacing Nokia 232 analog phone with a Tri-mode ?

I need to replace a nokia 232 analog used on verizon wireless. Verizon says "no way". I have to open a new contract. I was told that a Tri-mode phone will work on the analog system. Can this be possible ?? What do I need to do to accomplish this ? I leave this phone in the car for emergency purposes only. The monthly fee is really cheap and I don't want to sign up for a new contract just for this phone.

The person @ Verizon that I talked to was clueless or didn't tell me the truth. I upgraded to a new LG Tri-mode phone from their website and have since activated it. I'm still at the old monthly rate for this phone. I wonder if I'll be able to do it again in another 6 or so years ?? :-)
