hello,
I am a Win 2003 Server (SP1) user and I am facing great difficulties in installing Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser. Windows recognizes the mouse & keyboard perfectly, without any software installation\augmentation. The problem is that the Bluetooth dongle is recognised only as 'Generic USB Hub' without additional Bluetooth properties. This means that no Bluetooth profiles are recognized. EVER. I have tried almost everything and I didnt find ANY concrete solution.

I understand that win03 does not support natively Bluetooth but there must be a specific hack to enable it. I managed to install Q323183 winXP update, which installs the Bluetooth Support Service, without any new device recognition. I tried to change the .inf files with my VIDs and PIDs but also nothing.

Next step was to try and install Widcomm 5.0.1.802 and 5.0.1.1200. The first one came in the driver CD with Logitech Setpoint 2.46c which also didnt work. The only change with Widcomm was that a 'Bluetooth Device Enumerator' appeared without any additional functionalities. It is weird that the VID and PID of my dongle was not listed in any of the INF files in the installation CD. I found only for the keyboard & mouse.

In terms of software, I also tried BlueSoleil_1.6.1.4 which I didnt expect to work...

I am confused, desperate and feel used because I spent money on a device that I cannot play with. The advantage of this desktop combination is the Bluetooth connectivity. And why Microsoft does still not support Bluetooth in a Server-capable Operating System? ****e!!!

I am fowardind some technical information of the system as is, for anybody that wants to spare some time to explain me in detail and step-by-step what should I do or change for recognizing my Bluetooth dongle as a Bluetooth Hub. Has anybody seen it fully working on this platform?

Could you please explain the difference? Is the first from Microsoft and the other from Widcomm about the same devices.

Many thanks

First of all : Don't use the MS stack on win2k3 server as it's not supported. Do NOT attempt to install it as you'll only make things worse.

Second : Your dongle that came with the Keyboard and Mouse is a SPECIAL bluetooth dongle in that it initially boots up in HID mode aka it acts as a wireless USB cable between your keyboard, mouse and computer. If you would have installed the Setpoint software (not just the Widcomm stack from the CD, but the ENTIRE SetPoint software that came with it), as sooon as you would boot into windows, SetPoint will switch the dongle from HID mode to HCI mode and thus it would act as a Bluetooth dongle now and it would be recognised by Widcomm. Btw, don't use any other version of Widcomm besides the one that came with the CD as the Setpoint software is incompatible with it and it won't manage to switch the dongle from HID to HCI mode.

The reason your mouse and keyboard works without any drivers is that since it's in HID mode, windows simply treats it as if it was connected through a regular USB cable.
