NEC 338 V0.4 - Where do I begin?

Hi, Can anyone help with this.


I have looked over all info on this forum but surprisingly cannot find what I am looking for.


I have a NEC 338 V0.4 – I need it unlocked. I have purchased a serial cable – I do not know if it is a gx30 but it has an RS232 connection on one end and a NEC 338 connector on the other. It also has a 9V PP3 battery connector. I have also got a standard USB cable (unmodified I presume), which I received, with a DVD. I have looked at various bits of software but I am having problems. These are as follows:


When I turn the phone on all I get on screen is a message stating, “Insert correct USIM card”. I do not have a 3 sim to try in the phone at present. Could someone please tell me where to go from here? Do I need to purchase a 3 sim to get the message Insert Correct USIM to disappear? Can I put in a code to get rid of this? Also I would like to try out the Crassy 5 software does anyone have a link to where I can obtain this and V3 flash file for this phone model. What type of cable should be used with what software?

First of all: To check if your usb cable is modified or not, remove battery from the phone and connect the cable. If Display begin yellow and windows ask you for drivers, you can use it for flashing.

Search around the forum for 338 flasher (v3) and downgrade the phone. After this, you need a sw called "Nexus"

You need to do this with com cable:

Repair phone
Repair imei

Many thanks for your reply - very helpful. I still have the problem that when i switch the handset on the display reads Insert correct USIM card. Is there any way I can get the phone to come on fully without using a 3 sim card. Or will a 3 Sim card have to be inserted before the phone can be flashed.

Also, could you possibly help with a diagram of the modified USB cable - will any usb cable do - or does it have to be a special type?

If you need to unlock it it's obvious that you don't need a 3 simcard!
