My main lcd ribbon holder on the d500 was broke so i took off the broken one iwth the help of some flux and hot air.
Now when i try to put a replacement on i position it and then apply the hot air but nothing happens.
What is the correct procedure for it??

PS: i am not talking about the ribbon but the part where the ribbon goes into

try these method:

to remove the connector from scrap board; heat the under side for some time then turn over and it will slide off. no harm of melting it :)

to put it on;
place over the board contacts exactly in line. now, you can use a small soldering iron tip tinned very slightly, with flux, to attach the connector on board.

just run the iron along the pins to start, then work on each pin individually (just like replacing a charging block).

do not put too much solder, as you will bridge the pins. but you do need some tin on the tip.

the bigger problem is finding a source on new connectors :(

Ok so i need to solder the IC on pin-by-pin.

Is it a good idea to to clean off the solder of the board with copper wick or just leave it as it is??

i left it on, there is very little solder left on the board. just enough to attach a new connector.

good luck :)

good practice is to remove any flux or other residue with a small brush dipped in isopropynol before placing the new connector.
