View Full Version : I have net monitor in DCT4¨!!
Hi 2all ppl!
I recently got 3510 prototype for testing
and I activated net monitor (actually Field Test) by reseting it to factroy values (I hudr that's the way at 'Vp' version phones and it worked)
New Field Test has now groups of tests, not just a bunch of tests
For exaple, for test 1 you must write 0101, writing 0001 won't get you anywhere
There are groups from 1-11, than 60-64, 70-73
So, average test looks like this:
01-01
11 -66 xxx
0 3 x xxxx
35 35
CCCH
Tests added are GPRS and WAP counters, some test to enter to test mode (screen says TEST MODE and no light, you have to take battery out...)
manymany new tests, I just hope I had my camera before I had to return it 2 share.....

I have 8310 and got "Test Mode" on display but don't know why!! But activating NetMonitor the "normal" way DONT work!

This Test Mode is not net monitor, it is for service-ing phone with Phoenix, phone will enter this mode if pinn Btemp is connected to GND when you turn on the phone or if you use Nokia service battery with Phoenix and select test Mode...
Stil looking for commands to activate net Monitor on DCT-4...

I've got the FBUS commands to activate and de-activate them.
But they are of no use if you don't have the right flash :(
I tested it on a R&D example and it worked fine on this model.
If the flash hasn't got netmonitor it gives a result of zero's.
(this is at all the 'normal' flashes found on the net at this moment)
As soon as someone can send me a correct flash with netmonitor
for the 6310 or 6310i , I'll release a new version of the Fbus tool
with activate/de-activate netmonitor for FREE :D :D
(latest release of Fbus tool is V030, but not public)
We'll wait and see.........

this flash is hard to find maybe only inside Nokia R&D facilites not on service partner site...

Today at the local Nokia's press conference where they introduced 6610,
3510i and 3650 I had the opportunity to talk to one guy from finland who
made all answers to my questions about Field Test (Net monitor) in newer
phones (DCT4 and beyond)
From DCT4 generation to future Net monitor will be available ONLY in the
phones that are set in factory to have such feature, it's not a software
thing anymore. Phones with Net monitor enabled can be ordered at local Nokia
deraler if you are a network engeener (or, as like me - press :-) It will
not be able to eneble it with any newer version of WinPhoenix or any other
service software, it can be done ONLY in the factory.
The reason - the network providers made complaints to Nokia on easy Net
monitor enabling so users could easyly measure signal strenght and other
service features and made a lot of complaints about the "real service" :-)
So, I guess tat is the end of story of Nokias and Field test for ordinairy
people...If you have someone working in an ditributive center or Nokia
dealer you can order it for youself, NO ENABLING BY END-USERS WILL NOT BE
AVAILABLE, as far as Nokia is concerned (I hava an offer at the dealer to
order mine with Net mon)
Also, I got to play with 6610 and with 3650. They also had one 3510 that was
supposed to fool people they have 3510i, it was turned of all the time but
you could see the display is green (monochrome)
And - tadaaaaa - 3650 had Test (Field Test) Bug icon - Net monitor installed
and I'm giving you an exclusive picture of the screen
Also, I'm giving SW versions shots of both 6610 and 3650
Few words about the monitor - It is lot more user friendly and had full
names and long sentence descrpitions
I have it again, so I if anyone knows how t extract net mon please instruct me!

As I said, We need a good programmer to edit those files to make it run from C: drive, not just from Z:
other than that, net monitor could be out for public in a while ;-)

the second one is executable
BUT only if they are settled on Z: drive

Use the "subst" command from command line...
Associates a path with a drive letter.
SUBST [drive1: [drive2:]path]
SUBST drive1: /D
drive1: Specifies a virtual drive to which you want to assign a path.
[drive2:]path Specifies a physical drive and path you want to assign to
a virtual drive.
/D Deletes a substituted (virtual) drive.
Type SUBST with no parameters to display a list of current virtual drives.
Several people have asked me where to type the SUBST command...
In Wndows 9x/ME, run the file C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM, in Windows NT/2K/XP, run C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CMD.EXE. This is the "pure command line". There are few commands you can type, useful ones are HELP and EXIT (lowercase works too).
Another way to access the command line is to press the Win+R key combination... You will be given the opportunity to execute one command, for example SUBST Z: "C:\My new drive Z".

sorry to dissappoint you but they mean the z-drive on the Symbian machines.
This means the flashrom.
I tried the FTD program on a 9210 (doesn't work) and on a 7650
(also doesn't work).
There's no way to get the program into the flash at this moment but maybe in the future.
Or some has to have some Epoc/Symbian skills and manages to path the program. :D
Let's hope there's someone out there who can ;)
(by the way, I tried many DCT4 versions to enable NM on it but
FBus response is still that it isn't in the flash, engineering model works perfect, so for other phones then 7650/3650, it's still opeless)
Even in the flash you get "System Error" -- it needs more files.

I have tryed different ways, but the Z drive seems to be protected
for writing. Any special tricks required ?

yes, Z: is ROM, we must find a good programmer to make it run from c:
jsp, like i told you in e-mail, the prog needs more files. I have put the files in ROM (Z:\) and it needs more.

I've tested the following scenarios:
App on phone in C:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD ; DLL in same directory -> "System Error !"
App on phone in C:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD ; DLL in C:\SYSTEM\LIBS -> "System Error !"
App on emulator in Z:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD ; DLL in Z:\SYSTEM\LIBS -> "System Error !"
App on emulator in Z:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD ; DLL in Z:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD -> "System Error !"
App on emulator in C:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD ; DLL in C:\SYSTEM\LIBS -> "System Error !"
App on emulator in C:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD ; DLL in C:\SYSTEM\APPS\FTD -> "System Error !"
Copied DLLs also to D:\SYSTEM\LIB -> "System Error !"
I must say that I'm not very familiar with the emulator ... there is no useful documenation or helpfile (at least I didn't find it yet). So I'm not sure it works at all ... I tried several other apps for 7650 and none worked. Maybe you have to install some kind of "7650 system pack" into the emulator first, delivering required DLLs and other (hardware-related) stuff.
To all - any hints would be very appreciated :)

According to http://www.mgroeber.de/epoc.htm files compiled for phones cannot be loaded into emulator and vice versa:
"While Geos allows using the same binary for both the phone and the PC-based emulator, the fact that EPOC devices typically do not use x86 CPUs makes it necessary to compile seperate versions for emulator and final device. As the phones are not available yet, I tried to collect a few links to applications that can be used on the Win32 emulator for the Nokia 9210 "Crystal" SDK. The SDK is available from Nokia through an order form at Forum Nokia."
So I think we can stop using the emulator for testing the FTD.
we're wainting for j2k to give us feedback tomorrow.. he has working emulator (it's obvious that wour emulator is faulty)
OK, can someone please copy the files from my web page www.info-mob.com -> Nokia -> Symbian to C:\system\apps\ftd and copy file (requested from me on my email j@vip.hr) to C:system\libs and run the test icon and post results...

Please read my post - I did that already on my 7650.
I even tried to make folders on D: and copy files to that location.
It doesn't work.
There are only three possibilities to continue this project:
Someone patches the files so they can be run from C: .
Someone manages to copy them into Z: (= read a full flash from 7650, copy files in in, write full flash). -OR- Someone gets a fullflash including Netmonitor already.
Nokia publishes the sources :) .

I don't hava any C++ knownledge but the guys who have can
get this up and running in no time with the SDK for the 9210(i), the 7650 and the 3650.
Maybe also an idea

Hi, I've got an application for the 3650 and 7650 to make an complete ROMdump on the MMC (that's for the 3650).
It will be able to do so also by BlueTooth later on.

what we can do is to use the files we have + field.dll file and others I sent as an update) and preprogram it with SDK
If here are any C programmmers and are willing to help Nokia is giving away free SDK CDs at forum.nokia.com (apply for SDK)

Is there anyone else who has a 3650 or 7650 with NM enabled and willing to make a complete ROM dump?
We made already a 'normal' dump, so now we need the NM dump to see the adressing to get the application running again.
I've got the application to do so, also interesting for the DCT4 flashing masters to see how the flash is stored inside the phone :D
But that's something different :rolleyes:

And second question: Is there anything like a "resource editor" or "resource hacker" for Symbian OS apps ? I have been searching the net half the day but didn't find anything what looked only a bit like such a thing.

Yes you're quite right, field.dll has nothing to do with ftd.

2 days ago I got my hands on a 6650 Prototype with Vp software with Net Monitor on it !!

We can put a Netmonitor on a 9210 first u got to have a mbus cable just use ur Dct3 programs to activate it

At this moment no commands are available to activate netmonitor in DCT-4 in normal phones.
Phone need to be programmed with special firmware that has inside nemonitor part.
These firmwares are not available for public until now.
You can find more info about this in the forum, ( other thread ).

they can add net monitor to the 6230 (i brought one last week) thing is the .ro domain is romaina AFAIK?
I wouldnt want to send my baby all the way there just to have net monitor on it :(
I have read the first few pages of this thread and AFICS the only way to get net mon activated is with a special flash yes?

This is a net monitor for nokia 6600, tried it and works fine
for other symbian nokia models you can go to

Hi,
I've got the FBUS commands to activate and de-activate them.
But they are of no use if you don't have the right flash :(
I tested it on a R&D example and it worked fine on this model.
If the flash hasn't got netmonitor it gives a result of zero's.
(this is at all the 'normal' flashes found on the net at this moment)
As soon as someone can send me a correct flash with netmonitor
for the 6310 or 6310i , I'll release a new version of the Fbus tool
with activate/de-activate netmonitor for FREE :D :D
(latest release of Fbus tool is V030, but not public)
We'll wait and see.........

Net Monitor works on 5140i (Netnonitor without Symbol) only test from 01-01 till 09-18 the above are missing 60-01 and so on
Netmonitor on 9500 does not work for me ,patched it with patcher like for 5140i.
