hi all

downloaded the maps and unlocked them on pc and do i still need to run the keygen and make a card key and map key or do i just put the unlocked maps in garmin folder, for it to work.

because if i unllock with the keygen i get a different key from the one i used to unlock the map on pc.

any help appreciated .

You still need to use key gen to generate the keys. The keys to unlock the PC program is just that, to unlock the one on PC.
You need to save the 2 sets of keys as SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL to unlock maps on phone and internal GPS to work.

Garmin NA NT maps are at least 3 years old.I took it for a test drive .great graphics but very slow.Any updates?Some have reported problems with it though.

The Version .40 update for Garmin XT will speed it up significantly.

Might also use smaller maps, ie use mapsource and select the state you want only... Same keys will work

With Mapsource, you only select the tiles/country that you want and sent it to your MMC.

The NT 2008 etc found on the net are updates. You need either an earlier version to install first, then apply the update. Can also double click on the .msi files in the install dir folder to install directly. Select the language you want.

Maps are all locked. You'll need a key to unlock it for use on Mapsource on the PC. Enter Demo to use the NA NT 2008.

I couldn't get the NA NT 2008 unlocked, but i downloaded the Garmin Metroguide North America v7 works good and does all the routing, rerouting and calculations.

Yes, you need to put in the same folder that has your POI .csv file, make sure you give it the same name, this goes for image also.

Example, speedcam.csv, speedcam.mp3, speedcam.bmp all in the same folder, use POI loader and it will load them, when you get near the POI it will sound alert.

Download the new software v4.10.40, hook your phone up to PC using "Mass Transfer" load new software v4.10.40 to phone. Unhook phone from PC using normal steps. NOW DON'T RUN GARMIN XT YET.

Using file manager go into memory card and find folder Garmin\Apps\Symbian\res\GarminMobileXT.SIS

Click on the GarminMobileXT.SIS to install it on phone, it will ask if you want to replace v4.10.20 with v4.10.40, chose YES.
After that is done installing. You can exit file manager.
Run Garmin XT in application and everything is the same as you had before.

Ok guys this is how far I have gotten.

Instructions:

The unpacked file can be the third map for your Garmin XT. It must reside in main menory and not mmc.

If you don't want it as the third map, rename it to

gmapsupp.img for primary map on your MMC

or

gmapsup2.img as secondary map

Garmin will allow 3 maps, as long as they are named correctly.

If you have second map, the unlock key needs to correspond to the name of the map, ie
gmapsupp.unl for map 1 (gmapsupp.img)
gmapsup2.unl for map 2 (gmapsup2.img)

When you generate sw.unl file click safe as and click all filles(dont safe as text dokumentfile) it should be ANSI file... good luck;)

Working pretty good for me. Yeah the positioning is a little off but not bad. Did you use v.4.10.40? It fix a few known bugs like the "turn" problem you're having.

Go into Settings>About and it will tell you the version you have.

I have everything working ok, but images for Garmin have all been put into my image gallery. these are hidden on a PC but all visible on the phone. the hidden folder is called _PAlbTN I tried deleting it but it reappears. Anyone else have this problem?

I just go into the Gallery and deleted them there. Hasn't come back and doesn't effect the program.

hi all

installed garmin and got it to recognise int GPS after a lengthy battle with it and installed supp files and base map plus UK map. now evrytime i go and open Garmin it ask me to unlock maps. i have created a Gmappsupp file with the key gen and also dropped the .txt from it. but cant get the maps to work. If i use the card ID and create Sw file then the internal GPs is on if i use the ESN code that Garmin gives me to unlock the maps then no int GPS. I have unlocked the maps with mapsource but still cant get it to work. tried both SW files but still no go.

any help appreciated.

If you get the esn code, then you have created a correct sw.unl key.

You'll need your unit ID (not the ESN number) that you use initially to create the sw.unl key, enter that into the keygen, enter your map id, and generate the gmapsupp.unl key.

I just checked and I have the right version. Not really sure what is causing all the freezez on mine though. I sometimes get freezez on the menu screen of Garmin as well.

ok, i got mobile Xt workin' so far with my N95's internal gps. i downloaded city nav europa NT+ v8 and it's this map called "CNEUR8NT" with a whole bunch of .img files and some several others , do i just copy this map in the garmin map on me sdcard or only the files not the map??

I have the original software that N95-3 came with. So RAM is not a problem.


People having problem with conecting to gps, make sure Bluetooth is ON, make sure that you have gone and DELETED the .TXT part from he activaction codes after they were installed on the phone

finally got it to work , i follwed as per instructions posted, created a Sw file with the Card Id and then started the prog and it asked for ESn unlock. so i went to custom map set and entered Map Id 197 generated key and hey presto up and running.

Now, how exactly does this work on a standalone unit like the Garmin 60CSx?

I just wanted to mention that the NEW version is out already. Version 4.10.60 is out and ready for download. They have made a couple of changes for the better. Now you can even have a CAR instead of a arrow for your location.

sigh, havent been able to get it to work. been messing around with it for a few hours now. I generate the codes and make the txt files and copy them onto the root garmin folder. i turn the phone on and off but garmin isnt able to detect the internal GPS on my nokia n82. any help? ive tried uninstalling and installing but to no avail.

LOL, yeah I went ahead and copy the Language files from the 4.10.40 over. Everythinfg seems OK except I cannot ever connect to Garmin online. Not a big deal I jsut have to skip the traffic download everytimes.

It might be, use your file manager, go into Garmin>Apps>Symbian>Res>GMSUP2 and read the note.:D It does say 14 days trail in it, along with Taiwan, blah blah blah. Will update in two weeks.:D

3, load software and select device then select poi folder from browse button

i just use POI Edit 2007 for all the making, editing, converting for Points Of Interest

if you need it do a search on this forum for "tomtom 7 software and maps"

and you'll find all the tools for editing poi's, etc

I got the application up and running pretty easily, after reading through these pages numerous times. One question though, in the estimated arrival time in the lower right while navigating is it possible that the time be displayed in 12 hour format as opposed to the 24 hour which its currently in?

Now tomorrow I will try to updated to thw newest version, hopefully that wont be too hard. thanks for the help.

Just joined up there few mins ago. I've been looking at this thread the last couple of days, and ive tryin to install it on my nokia n95, but i keep getting errors and when i did actually install it , it couldnt find the internal GPS even when I went into the options.

Should work just fine after 14 days. I already try and set my phones date past 14 days, even a year ahead to 2008 and it work just fine. The only message I got when I set it to 2008 was that my maps might be outdated and to go to garmin.com for updated maps. I downloaded the update you posted a couple of pages back and it doesnt have the automatic setup like the two previous versions. How do I go about getting this one updated from 10.4? Do I just take .sis file and copy it over and have it replace it like when I went from 10.2 to 10.4 or is there more to it? thanks

Yeah you can do that, make sure you copy the Vehicle folders over too as that is new in v.60.

Except now that I did that, when I try and plan a route and type in the address and hit go it says "unable to find help files" and the display looks goofy behind the message. Also, the vehicles folder just goes into the garmin root folder right?

You will see this if the sw.unl file has not been added to your Garmin folder. Without the sw.unl file, it will only pair with a Garmin GPSr (either 10x or 20x).

At least you know the program has been installed properly and is working.

If you only have the img file, then you will need to copy the entire lot to the Garmin folder on the card.

The DVD the maps comes in have Mapsource in it. That will allow you to select particular region or tiles to be sent to your device for use. You can always add more tiles later. The same gmapsupp.unl key will work for all of the map or part of the map.

Setup of XT is simple.
1)Install Mobile XT (regardless of version).
2)Install XT support pack for voice etc.
3)Install basemap (should be in MobileXT pack)
4) All above copied to N95 SD card
5) Disconnect and XT should start.
6) Cancel out of GPS search.
7) Use Settings>about and copy down your Unit ID or Card ID
8) Use key gen to create your sw.unl
9) Copy sw.unl to Garmin folder on SD card
10) Disconnect, and XT will find the internal GPSr. If not cancel the search, and from settings, change it away from BT GPSr
11) Find the map and send it to your garmin folder either directly or with mapsource.
12) Find ID of map
13) Use keygen and create your gmapsupp.unl You'll need the unit id /card id again for this.
14) Copy the gmapsup.unl to garmin folder
15) Have fun and drive safely

Drop it into the garmin folder.

You'll need the MapID for the map. If it's already listed in the list above, then you don't have to use the alternate means (hex editor) to get it.

The keygen will generate an unlocking code for the map. You'll need to enter your Device ID, and the Map ID to get the code. Copy and paste the code into a file with the same name as your .img file, replacing it with .unl instead of .img at the end. This was, you can have more than one map active.

Map: gmapsupp.img
Code: gmapsupp.unl

Mao: gmapsup2.img
Code: gmapsup2.unl

ie:YOU WILL SEE. SW.unl.txt.....CHANGE IT TO> SW.unl
same with your othe file..


2.restart Program should now recognize your built-in GPS (if not use GpsGate set to generic NMEA GPS receiver) and you should be.

then go to gps setting.you will see..choose 2

phew.... got it to work. It could've been just a glitch, basically after setting everything up I could not view the map. It said No map on the map browsing window, but navigation worked, so I just navigated to POI and map suddenly appeared. Zooming In/Out didn't do it btw, because map wasn't showing. So, it all works. Thanks for your help! I think this was an easier setup then Route66. Also, this is the most updated map, it shows street to my house which is not new, since 2001 and only recently google maps showed.

Changing vehicle icon only available in v.60, v60 is a little faster IMO but traffic and garmin online don't work.

On thing to check is the map installed. If you applied the 4.10.60 update, that will automatically install a Taiwan map and you will get Code required prompt - for the Taiwan map only. You can generate a code for that, or delete the .img file that you don't need.

Garmin defaults to somewhere over Europe on startup. So, as no european maps installed, you'll need a GPS fix to tell it that you are in US. The data is then saved in a file that is contantly updated as you use the program.

Yeah I can get traffic download and Garmin Online only with WiFi, cant' use it with GPRS. I could use GPRS with version .40.:D

The settings>about gives you the IMEI, from which you can calculate your Unit ID. It also gives you SD ID. Either of which can be used to calculate your activation code. Do remember, the keygen essentially reverse engineer Garmin's locking mechanism to either their SD card or their GPSr.

You will need to gather the Map ID from the maps themselves (see above). Again, Garmin, and some ruthless leeches, will be able to unlock the maps for you for a fee. The keygen allows you to do this. You just need to get the Map ID. or hope (or ask) that someone has already got the Map ID and is willing to publish it.

Which map are you dealing with? Garmin Mobile XT require the NT version of maps to work. eg Europe v9 NT.

Free maps may not follow Garmin convention of naming, and hence, the Map ID is not the easiest to find.

Mapsource Metroguide v7 for which region? If Europe, you will encounter problems

Just check all the .img files in your garmin folder. Ensure that every .img file, with the exception of gmapbmap.img, has a corresponding .unl file with it.

The updates can also install extra maps, eg in the case of 4.10.60 of file size 74Mb, the Taiwan v8 map is added silently with the name gmapprom.img. Unless there's corresponding correct gmapprom.unl file, you will always get the unlock code messagage. The other maps will still works fine. If you do not need the Taiwan map, just delete this gmapprom.img file.

If you have made the SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL correctly it should not get that message. Launch Garmin XT, go into settings and enable internal GPS.

I have been trying to set up garmin on N95 followed all instruuctions as u suggested but it is not recognising the internal GPS.
In GPS information it says Connection allowed to Garmin GPS device only. will not pair with BT 77 either.

If you cannot pair with BT or internal GPS, then it can only mean the sw.unl code in wrong or absent. You just need to get the imei or card id again from settings>about and reenter the details in the keygen to create the sw.unl file.

Before starting Garmin, why not start Nokia Navigator and ensure that the internal GPSr is up and active. Exit Navigator, then start Garmin.

INSTALLATION

UPLOAD your map using Mapinstall

KEYS:
GET YOUR IMEI
insert IMEI in IMEI_to_ID -> this gives you Unit - id code

Insert unit id in garmin_kgen.exe -> This gives 2 codes

Device unlock code -> insert in notepad and save as SW.UNL
Map unlock code -> insert in notepad and save as GMAPSUPP.UNL

Copy Both .UNL files to card/Garmin/

Put card in phone start it, an voile it works

All maps get GMAPSUPP.IMG name. ID depend on what map region.

hmmm, GMAPSUPP.IMG is common name for almost all Garmin maps.

you can find out which ID it has,just open the .IMG file with any HEX editor and follow instructions in attachments.

i got it work sum how,i unzipped the files city navigator north america 2008, it made a file in my computer which named CNNANT2008, most of the files are . img files and i have one .mdx otherone .trf otherone .tdb , with two files i got confused with, (cnnant2008.img , cnnant2008_mdr.img) i changed name of the file cnnant2008.com to gmapbmap.img, and i copied to the e:/garmin folder, now from my settings, when i go the mapsets, i can see it,
problem is, i started to see some streets but not all the street. IS my map not detailed (city navigator north america 2008) , or im doin sumthn wrong

have you tried factory resetting your phone, 99% of the time when programs don't auto-install it's due to the phone memory being corrupt ?

Your first map is GMAPSUPP.IMG your 2nd map should be renamed GMAPSUP2.IMG, you also need a GMAPSUP2.UNL code to go with it.

I have followed your intructions and I think every thing is working good so far except the following.

During Navigation I only get turn left or right, It does not say the street names, is that normal? ON the screen the street name is clearly shown but some how it does not say it.

I guess we are not going to be able to enjoy the weather and traffic and gas prices type stuff which requires to connect with Garmin on line.

The wierdest thing is that I did not have to generate the second set of keys. I unlocked the Maps on my PC and transferred them to the XT thru Mapsource. I was expecting that I will be asked to generate another set of keys again but it worked with out this step. Is this normal???

My City Navigator NA 2008NT went well and I only had to unlock the maps on the pc and transferred them to my N95 thru map install. I have tested it outside and it works just fine. The only issue is that it does not anounce the street names. It only anounces "turn right or left" but not the full street name even though the name shows up on the screen.

Is this normal or am I missing some files??
