I got everything working well on Nokia E71. I really like it! But there is 2 small problems and I was wondering if someone else has ran into them before.

1st

On the main nav screen on the left it shows the posted speed limit for the current road but for some reason on mine i displays only part of it  take a look

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6079/screenshot0019zu6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/screenshot0019zu6.jpg/1/w320.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img338/screenshot0019zu6.jpg/1/)

2nd ond the E71 in order for me to zoom in and out I have to hold down 2 keys in order for it to get the command. Otherwise if I am trying to press "1" it thinks that I am pressing R

Other than that it really is a great program.

Thanks

I did ask in anothe thread, however has anyone got the .img file for Spain or mapsource? Cheers in advance

tamate
12-06-2008, 09:54
Yes, to myself, the spain map is here with others http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/cache/offonce/us/samsung/overview#fragment-3
do not run the download only extract the file and take the folder with the img file in it. Thats the one you will use in your garmin folder on your device. Just unlock it with instructions in this thread. The maps say for samsung however works fine. Any more info on this others will help as I am still newbie.

I wonder is it possible make own map to your garmin. So if I have for example map.jpg could i made it someway to garmin understand?

I have program witch fetch map from internet map and then i can convert it to SmartCom understand. SmartCom needs .map file and .ofg2 file.

So i think how I can make .jpg or .png -> .map file?

Try to find solution but can't.. If it is possible there must be instruction in internet? Please post me link.

Fetched map from internet: (sorry size)

vlado3gg,

Try the following on GMXT. Change Settings | Display | Font Size from its current selection to either Small or Very Small and see how that causes the info to display on the E71. The other problem with the keypad with the confusion between 1 and R I have not seen yet, so I can't comment on that yet. But hang in there, someone will have had the glitch and a workaround is out there.

I read almost all the thread and I think I know what to do know. There is only one problem. I downloaded the mapsource and as it was mentioned here it is an upgrade and I don't have any previous version of mapsource!
Can anyone help me on how to install that?

neema,

Easy. What you need to do is to extract the mapsource exe file to a temp folder and look for the MAIN.MSI file. Run this file to install the program and you should be able to then install any mapsets you need from the forum here. A word of caution, see if you can install the Mapsource prior to 6.14.1 and then upgrade to 6.14.1. Hope this helps.

Hey,

Thanks buddy. Now I have another problem. I almost did all the steps. I used the keygen to make the codes and made the files and copied the files to my device(in both garmin folders in main memory and storage card), but still it asks me either to purchase or start trial period! I am using Garmin ver.5 and used both 1.5 and 2 keygen.
And also the mapsource, when I want to start it and error pops up about no installed map, I believe the map that I have is not a mapsource version! I just have the img file for north america 2009.

Thanks,

Program is not a upgrade.
You need Garmin Mobile XT for Symbian UIQ3.0, and Garmin Mobile XT Support Files.
Copy to your memory card only needed files...
Search begining of this thread about description, how install...

Neema,

Check to see that your 2 files that you created with the unlock codes don't end in sw.unl.txt and gmapsupp.unl.txt. In which case you will have to rename both the files from:-

sw.unl.txt
gmapsupp.unl.txt

to:-

sw.unl
gmapsupp.unl

Make sure both these files are located in the \Garmin folder on the SD-MMC in the phone. To download mapsets to work with Mapsource, follow this thread:-

I have downloaded the files and started installing them. Somehow an erreor occurred with the downloading of the support files. Must do it again.

Garmin is working fine on my mobile, but I have a big problem now.
Garmin cannot pick up the GPS.

I have a Sony Ericsson P1i cellphone with an external Bluetooth GPS receiver.
It is a receiver that was bundled with the Wayfinder software.
Inside the receiver, the following is written:
"RoyalTek"
"Model No.: RBT-2100LP"
"Serial No.: 00002240001803"

Can anyone tell me if I would be able to use this receiver?
If yes - How?
If no - what other options do I have?

ALL
I could not stop fiddling with my equipment.
tried a lot of things and ways.
Read through a lot of posts.
I could not activate the software or map on my phone.
problem was with the .unl files.

I generated the codes, but the phone did not accept it as notepad docs.
I then backed up some .unl files from mapsource and edited it using notepad.
Voila!
everything works perfectly fine!
even the receiver is working excellent!

Thankyou, thankyou all for all the help I received in this thread.

Balthasar83,

Download the Garmin v4.xx.xx Support files from the Garmin website. Extract the file to a temp folder and copy the voice files from \GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx\GMobileCard\Garm in\voice to \Garmin\VOICE folder on the SD-MMC on the phone. In GMXT, you need to enable the feature in the following manner:-

Settings | Audio | Voice Prompt | Enabled

Settings | Audio | Attention Tone | Enabled

Settings | Routing | Turn Preview | Enabled

Run Main.msi.

Follow the following trick to hack the setup file so that it can be used to install MapSource clean and fresh without any prior installation of MapSource.
Download MapSource software updater from Garmin.
Unpack or extract the content of MapSource_6137.exe
downloaded using WinRAR.
From the extracted files, run MAIN.msi.
Then, run Setup.exe.
Note: The sequence to execute Main.msi and then Setup.exe is important to avoid “Previous MapSource not found!” error.
Garmin MapSource now installed.

Just to check I downloaded Mapsource 6.137 from http://www8.garmin.com/software/MapSource_6137.exe
Then I right clicked on it at extracted it to a folder called Mapsource_6137 with winrar.
In the folder is a file called main.msi..... Run that file!

Just to check I downloaded Mapsource 6.137 from http://www8.garmin.com/software/MapSource_6137.exe
Then I right clicked on it at extracted it to a folder called Mapsource_6137 with winrar.
In the folder is a file called main.msi..... Run that file!
After that run the file in the same folder called setup.exe

That is it....

Regards

Mike
Absolutly correct but only difference is when i extract it to the said folder I get the following folders and files
Folders : IMG, Support, Windows
Files: SETUP MAPSOURCE.img, Readme
When I run that file it gives me error : The driver or network connection that SHORTCUT Setup mapsource.img .lnk refers to is unavailable....
that means its not a file its a link... any thoughts?

What you have downloaded is not Mapsource (http://www8.garmin.com/software/MapSource_6137.exe)

Maybe it is a map (I think so because of the folder IMG)?

It is actually version 5....

What about going into the Garmin/voice folder, and deleting all the diferent voices except for english?

And do the same with text?

Then you won't have to choose...?

i can't find the voice folder nor the text.
i didn't install the support files.
if i can delete the language menu files except the english it will definetly work.

You need to download Garmin unlock generator 1.5 then you input map No and it generates a i think a 25 digit code that you put on handset and it unlocks map.

Here is a copy with some map codes already in it but just add your own when you get them to generate a code.

Hi All,

I have moved over to Garmin from TomTom as I have a Symbian S60v3(Nokia E51 and a Nokia 6210 Classic) and we don't currentlly have options for software and maps beyond a couple of year ago I just found out today from here.

The only problem I am having with Garmin Mobile XT is that is seems to kill my battery on my phone even when I am not running Garmin at the time.

When I put my other memory card in without Garmin Mobile XT my battery lasts for a few days but with Garmin Card in it lasts about 24hrs. I have run this with different cards including the original Nokia memory card and a *******.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Thanks

You should make sure to exit the application.... It is NOT enough to press the red "hang-up" button on the phone.... The program will still be running in the background on the phone....

I have installed map source and when i go to start - programs - garmin - mapsource .... the program opens... it prompts me saying "locked maps detected" and button for unlock and skip. when i press unlock it runs a wizard asks for 25 charcater key and click next... and i type the 25 char key in and hit next. then it askes me do you hve new registration code? i select no i will register it later...then it asks would u like to install more unlock codes or unlock maps i select no i am done...
now on the map screen on the bottom it says "map detail locked" and on the other side there is nothing under maps - waypoints - routes - tracks...
what i am doing wrong or missing here.. I have also downloaded 3 maps for Australia... but they have few folders and files ... don't konw what to do with them... can you please guide ?

Wah you've lost me Khurramriaz!!!

All you do for the maps is the following!
There is a page on this site for Garmin Maps
Download them (gmapsupp.img) and then using the keygen GMK1.5 (link found above this page) ... make sure you create the SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL file (make sure you put in the MAP ID) at the same time and then put the map and all *.UNL files into the Garmin folder on your phone or SD Card (wherever you have installed Garmin too)

------------------------------

Anyways as for Battery Life being killed by the new Garmin 5.0 software; I can confirm this on my Samsung Innov8 phone
When I install Garmin to my phone memory (8GB) and exit the software properly (and no mike2111 it isnt still running just incase you ask, this can be checked by holding the menu button to see current running applications) my battery like is around 1 day with moderate usage; such as only phone and sms.
BUT
When I install the Garmin XT 5.0 to my SD Card and DONT insert the card my phone lasts for a few days (under moderate use)
BUT
When I insert my SD card and not run Garmin XT software, my phone only lasts for about 1 day (under moderate use)

yes i downloaded latest maps from here but don't know what to do next

Install the map using the file called CNAUSNT2009Update_ENU - Not the Setup.exe - This will install the map only. It is located in the windows/msi-folder.
Launch MapSource and unlock the map, use a key generator which you can find here: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/show...04&postcount=4 (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=3838604&postcount=4)
Enter your GPS's ID number and mapid in the key generator, and you have the unlock-code.
In Mapsource, click Utilities > Manage Map Products.
Select the Unlock Regions tab, and click Add.
Enter your 25-character unlock code and then a comment, if desired. Click OK.
For more info look in the user guide for Mapsource: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/MapSo...UsersGuide.pdf (http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/MapSource_MapSourceUsersGuide.pdf)
Then you transfer the part of the map (e.g. Spain) you would like to your GPS.
If you would like to have more maps, e.g. Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2009 and Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2009 you can combine the maps and transfer them to you GPS.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the thought but we have made sure we do that on all of the phones. On the E51 I have a home button that if I hold down the button it shows me what is running at the time and I have nothing therefore it is correctly shutdown.

Hence this doesn't seem to be the issue but can't totally rule it out as it maybe lieing

If you dont want to put all maps in mapsource (to many will slow handset down) then create new folders.

I have four map folders on my N96

GMAPSUPP
GMAPSUP2
GMAPBMAP
GMAPROM

IN THESE FOLDERS I HAVE AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, EUROPE 2009,AND BASEMAP.
THEY ALL WORK FINE.

OK, I checked today again and they put a link for 7-day trial version. I am going to downlaod it on my blackberry and then I can findout whether the keygen will work on that or not.
But here is another question, this link is only for blackberry browsers. I can not download it by my PC, do you think there is a way to bypass this and just download it by PC?

Also the phone has a touch screen, and when you install the software and try to setup the phone with voice and text, you have to push a button to choose, but you do nat have the button on the phone....

Someone tried to set it up using a bluetooth keybord (read more here (http://mytechnews.info/b/2009/01/tutorial-installing-garmin-mobile-xt-on-the-nokia-5800-xpressmusic.html)), but it is not running very well....

Sorry.....:(

Hi all

I'd like to install Garmin Xt on my new Nokia N82 I just recently purchased. I have read this thread but couldn't find the information I want. I assume you still have to purchase the program from Garmin for 99 USD or some other place. I read somewhere isome program is free but I'm assuming it's just the keygen so you can copy the contents from original micro SD to the bigger size micro SD and stil able to use that bigger size micro SD. Is that right?

Keygen v1.5 works for the current Garmin program right? Once that done, then just download any maps you want?

Not sure if the problem is with my N78 or the Garmin software, but it had real trouble detecting the GPS; sometimes it'd work fine, othertimes it'd get stuck on 'receiving GPS signal' - either way I just had to buy a TomTom, d'oh :(

jon2k8,

The at least one of the phones that I have installed GMXT on should have failed and I would have had to replace it for the user. No, it has not happened to me and I cannot see that it will do this to a phone. This does not include hacked version from torrents, as I have downloaded the original kit from Garmin itself and then I cracked it using Jetmouse's keygen.

Same here, this is valid for more phones aswell, and as you say it doesn't matter if it's actually running. It seems to be better but not perfect with Garmin 4. On 6110 i would say the time goes down from 7-11 days to 0,5-1,5 days just with Garmin 5 on the micro sd (not started).
If anyone knows why and how to solve please post...

Niska,

I have a Nokia E90 for a while now and have had no major hassle with battery life and GMXT. Ironically, only when GMXT is ruuning, do I get about a day out of the battery. I am currently running the latest firmware for the E90. A colleague of mine has a N95 and he accidently left GMXT running on his phone and also got about a day out of the battery. This is something worthwile monitoring for future reference.

Programs running have an indication in the menu.
And here the main problem is that it's regardles
if Garmin was started or not.
Nothing in the startlist and the proccess doesn't indicate anything either.
The problem was less with Garmin 4 then with Garmin 5.
So for me it's not a question about if, rather about why?
And it there are persons running Garmin 5 on Nokias
without the battery problem...

Running without Garmin on the original microsd gives normal battery time...

Niska,

Something to look into that can also help, is a process explorer. There are freeware process and memory explorers available that can be used to look for the following culprit. The name of the file is TSRAutoStart.exe. This file is somehow associated with GMXT and this drains the battery. Worth looking into.

TSRAutoStart.exe is the bad boy!!!

For others with the same problem it's on the memorycard under
X:\sys\bin\TSRAutoStart.exe
Just by renaming that file to: TSRAutoStart.exe.old
batterytime will greathly improve since it's started when the memorycard is inserted even without starting garmin...
By renaming it the functions remain but with more then one days standby...

Thanks again fugglefeet now everything works again!!!

Hi Niska

What phone are you using? I have an explorer program installed on my Nokia 6110, but am unable to find the file "TSRAutoStart.exe" anywhere on my phone. Do i need special software i.e. a process explorer to find the file?

OK, found the file and renamed it, but after a phone restart, i get an system error on the phone. It obviously wants to run the TSRAutostart.exe file, but cannot find it as it was renamed.

Is there not maybe another way where you can disable this file from running?

Did you rename that file only ?
Becouse i have done it without problems on a 6110 Navigator.
For some strange reason you should also restart the phone after using Garmin.
Please also note that it's just the one on your memory card under:
\sys\bin\TSRAutoStart.exe

Just rename it on your normal computer via cardreader....
(Show hidden files)

So i wonder if you renamed it somware else?

Hi Niska

Found a different way to solve the TSRAutostart.exe problem on another thread. I tried it and it works fine.

"After installing v5.0.0.30:

Turn OFF your i560
Turn i560 back ON
Launch JBak Taskman to see if TSRAutoStart.exe is running in Memory in Menu -> Tools -> Processes even though it's set as DISABLED by default in Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services.

If TSRAutoStart.exe is running after i560 is turned ON, do this:

START GarminMXT v5.0.0.30, goto Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services and change to ENABLED.
EXIT GarminMXT, re-start GarminMXT and goto Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services and change to DISABLED
Turn OFF i560
Turn ON i560
Launch JBak TaskMan to check that TSRAutoStart.exe ISN'T in Menu -> Tools -> Processes

Now:

START GarminMXT v5.0.0.30
EXIT GarminMXT
Launch JBak TaskMan to check that TSRAutoStart.exe ISN'T in Menu -> Tools -> Processes

Now, you should find:

TSRAutoStart.exe doesn't start when you first turn ON your i560
TSRAutoStart.exe now CLOSES automatically when you exit GarminMXT v5.0.0.30
It appears that GarminMXT v5.0.0.30 when being installed, doesn't create the DISABLED entry and has to be done manually by setting to ENABLE, then DISABLE.

Thanks for the reply anyway. Much appreciated!

For the TSRAutoStart.exe, there is a MUCH SIMPLER way to stop that from starting.

Plug your phone into the computer as mass memory and delete these two files on your memory card.

\sys\bin\CardRunner.dll
\resource\plugins\CardRunner.RSC

Then, the TSRAutoStart.exe will not load. But if you run Garmin, you need to kill it with JBTaskman, or just restart your phone.

Also, is there a keygen for the new 5.00.20 or 5.00.30 Garmin for the e71? it's so hard to look through 50 pages. I would like to be up to date, but not sure if there is a keygen for it yet.

Since your phone is looking to start that program, it will cause errors. by deleting those two files i mentioned, it will not autostart, and you wont encounter problems. I've done it, and i've seen posts on Nokia's forums, as well as symbian-freak, hofo, etc, and none of them have had any problems.

When I rename TSRAutoStart.exe, Garmin don't start (ver.5.00.30) device Nokia N95.

Yes, I had the same problem. I renamed and then I restarted the phone and the phone starts, then gives the welcome screen message and just stays with a "Nokia" in blue on white background. I am getting the call to the mobile if somebody calls, but, even after pressing the pickup button the phone still rings.

I removed the SD card and then restarted the phone and it is workign fine. I put another SD card and then restarted the phone it is working fine. I put the old card having the Garmin in it, in which I renamed TSRAutoStart.exe, into a card reader and changed the name of the file back to normal and then I put this card in the phone and restarted, but no luck, same like before - blank screen.

However, now that my Garmin is not working, I diceded to format the card and also do a firmware update on my phone. I did teh firmware update to V30.0.0.015 and then I have to start all over again for the Garmin, the same like insatlling Version 4.10.20, cracking it with the key generator, then downloading the base maps, support files then donloading and installing the maps etc., Make suer that the Version 4.10.20 workign fine and then I tried to upgrade it to 40 or 60, just could not find, however, I found Version 5.00.40 on Garmin and upgraded it to that. Seems to be workign fine, now, need to go out and give a try.

*********SO DON'T EVEN TRY RENAMING THE TSRAutoStart.exe FILE*****

Now, my question is:

1. Is Version 5.00.40 is the latest version or is there any thing else?
2. I have "City Navigator Nort America 2009 NT", is this the latest or do we have any thing latter than this?
3. I had also seen else where in this forum, with the display of speed limit on the map, I didin't got them before, how to get the speed limit while we are driving?

Hi,

I have Garmin XT windows mobile that i am running with the North American Charts. This was a purchased product.

Now I have downloaded an unlocked version of English language Japanese maps by http://uud.info/

I changed the north amercan GMAPSUPP.img and GMAPSUPP.unl files to GMAPPROM.img and GMAPPROM.unl

I used activesync to drop the Japan (also GMAPSUPP.img) file straight into the Garmin folder on the phone.

After opening the program all map displayed properly.

however

The "Where to" > " "adresses" function now crashes the program.

So I changed the file names around.

Now the N. American files are back to GMAPSUPP (img and unl) and the Japan file is GMAPSUP2.img

Now the program functions properly (address's function) but I cannot see the Japan maps (either on screen or in "manage my data").

So now I just changed the Japan file name only to GMAPPROM.img

Once again I can see all maps available to me, but the address function again crashes the program.

Sorry for the long winded explanation, but any advice??? Thanks in advance!! :D

See if there isn't perhaps an update for the GMXT WM.

Look to see if an update helps.

Thanks for your reply,

According to the Garmin Website this is the most recent version of the program.

As I say now I have the Japan chart file named GMAPSUP2 and the program does not recognize it is there.

However now the programs runs perfectly in North America.

Maybe I will juts have to change file names as travel between USA and Japan. ;)

Cheers!

Also tried this today to test the program...

1. Kept the unlocked Japan file as GMAPSUP2.img

2. Changed the N. American files to GMAPPROM.img and .unl

As usual with the Japan file as GMAPSUP2 the program does not see it.

The N. American files and program itself works perfectly.

Then I changed again the Japan file to GMAPSUPP.img...

Now the Japan maps are recognized and can be viewed, but the "WHERE TO" > "address's" and "Intersections" functions crash the program. All other 'where to' functions work fine.

Change the Japan file back to GMAPSUP2, and the program runs flawlessly apart from not seeing Japan....

.... weird!

It is possible that the img file of Japan doesn't have the routing and address details included. To get the routing details to work, reload the Japan img file from Mapsource to the phone. Make sure to check the Include route calculation data box when sending the maps from Mapsource. Last resort that I can think of. Hope this helps.

Hi fugglefeet,

Thanks again for your time, it is much appreciated,

OK I will try what you suggest.

I am technically challenged, and downloading mapsource has been a pain.

I downloaded mapsource to my desk top and it just came in as an .exe... but would not load..... seems like this is a common problem looking at the threads on here... but the solution though also had me confused... :o

I understand from the threads that I must download it with WinRAR (I do not have a clue how to do this!! ... or even what WinRAR is!!) When I downloaded mapsource, I could not extract anything out of it and certainly could not find MAIN.msi...

Please also tell me where I find the route calculation data box? Should this be part of the Japan file? Or is it taken from mapsource?

Many thanks again.

For information, after much banging my head against the wall I have now:

- found out what winrar is
- downloaded it, extracted files from mapsource exe
- run Main......
- run set up...
- got the message (like so many others) "could not find any mapsource products... blah, blah...."
- tried to install map first, but not sure about this part.
- my map is an .img file so clicked 'open with' and selected mapsource... woud not recognise it...

how do I change an img file to a mapsource file?

Thanks

Update on my progress... managed to change the .img file to multiple mapsource files (using a couple of different programs)

Finally worked out how to open mapsource properly...

Fugglefeet you were right.... mapsource recompiles the file..... and transferring the file from mapsource to the mobile device (as per instructions from www.uud.info).

The program now does not crash, works perfectly... just did a route from Yokohama to Oskaka, and the Japan Garmin compatible maps are brilliant!

Just so you know the Japan Maps are fully routable and completely in English... great for us Gaijins!!!

Thanks again for your pointers

Maps need to named gmapprom.img (if in phone's internal memory) or gmapsupp.img or gmapsup2.img.

The unlock coded need to be named correspondingly, ie gmapprom.unl, gmapsupp.unl or gmapsup2.unl.

Once you GPSr is on and a signal received, the appropriate map will be selected.

Hello, ive also tried putting extra maps on my phone, i currently have the uk and ireland map loaded onto my mem card and all is well, i tried to add france benelux to it by renaming both the .img and .unl file of the france maps to gmapsup2, they both load and i can see them but i cant navigate with the uk map only the france benelux, it seems to cancel the uk map out, do i have to add a sw.unl with each extra map i add?

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
I've installed Garmin XT Version 5.00.40 on my 5800 with no problems. I followed the instructions exactly and it worked first time. Great piece of software. The only thing that's driving me nuts is that every time I want to navigate I have to input the country, then the city followed by house number and street name. From the reviews I've read, after you input the country you should then be able to input the postcode in 'spell city'. Does'nt work for me

This applies to "real" Garmin maps only – with other maps the file might just be called setup.exe....

You will normaly find the file in the folder "img"....

Hi I'm answering my own post here as I finally found the answer myself.
Download this version of the UK & Ireland map and overwrite the gmapsupp.img in the Garmin folder you will then have postcode search :)

Hi guys, I don't have any experience posting threads but a fair bit now reading them. I recently bought a Nokia E71, I love the size and its functionality especially now I have the GPS working with maps for free. I have noticed a few people asking for complete steps for dummies so I will post the info I used. None of it is mine and the guy that wrote all of it also credits many others as he just trolled through the net like the rest of us. So her goes, red is my extra bits;

Hi Guys,

I initially created this torrent and instructions for N96, but after selling that cheap ***, broke-down, creaky son-of-a-bitch and upgrading to the far superior i8510 INNOV8, I tried and realised that it works just as well for this phone. In fact, it starts quicker, finds satellites quicker and operates quicker!

So I thought I'd tweak the instructions for INNOV8 users.

Follow these steps;

1) Attach your phone to the computer via USB cable, selecting Mass Media / Mass Storage.

2) Extract the archive called 'GarminXT for INNOV8.7z' using 7zip It will create the Garmin folder in the SD card root directory.

3) Run the following installers (double-click on icon - then click setup) in this order; I accidentally installed 3. first as it unzips at the top but you do need to do it in this order.

1. v4.xx.xxx Support File,
2. v4.xx.xxx Basemap File
3. GMXT v5.00.10

Each time, choose the mass memory (SD card) as the place to install, not the phone memory.

4) Disconnect the phone from the computer.

5) Go to Menu -> Applications -> Click on the GarminXT icon (next time you connect the phone at step 14 you may want to delete the 'GarminXT.sis' from the root of your memory or else every time you remove your phone from Mass Storage mode it'll ask if you want to boot GarminXT!)

6) Once Garmin Mobile XT has been installed on your phone, run it. Go to Menu -> Applications -> GarminXT.

You are going to be prompted to run through a whole bunch of setup steps ie. Language etc. etc. Once you are done with this it will try to detect a GPS. Click cancel. If you get excited and try anyway at this point it won't work so be patient and follow the rest of the steps

7) Inside Garmin, go to Settings -> About. Write down the Card ID# on a piece of paper. You will need this twice later. You have to open notepad later anyway so do it now and cut and paste instead, if you can't do that give up now.

8) Extract the archive called 'garmin_kgen.7z' using 7zip Extract this on your computer not the phone

9) Run the keygen and enter the Card ID# you just wrote down in the Unit ID field. Cut and paste

10) Click the 'Generate' button

11) Open up notepad and enter the code it generates. Save the notepad file onto your desktop with the name SW.UNL

***
Remember: DO NOT call it SW.UNL.txt. Check the file you just saved! If it is called SW.UNL.TXT then delete the .txt. Ultimately, if it doesn't have the txt at the end, the icon will change and wont be a normal notepad icon I think this will always save as a txt so make sure you edit the file name after the 'save as' process.
***

12) In the keygen, select 'custom mapset' from the drop-down list. You will be asked for a code. Enter 271 as the code. Click the second generate button.

13) Open up notepad and enter the code it generates. Save the notepad file onto your desktop with the name GMAPSUPP.UNL

***
Remember: DO NOT call it GMAPSUPP.UNL.txt. Check the file you just saved! If it is called GMAPSUPP.UNL.TXT then delete the .TXT. Ultimately, if it doesn't have the txt at the end, the icon will change and wont be a normal notepad icon

14) Attach your phone to the computer via USB cable, selecting Mass Media / Mass Storage.

15) Copy over the files you just created; SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL into the Garmin folder of the mass memory in you phone that was created during the installation.

16) Extract the archive called 'Garmin MapSource City Navigator Australia 2008.7z' using 7zip Again on your computer not the phone

17) Double-click the setup.exe in the folder you just extracted

(OK at this step I might get a bit vague, but just follow all of the steps that you would usually go through to install an application)

18) In the Garmin Mapsource folder there is an installation file with some bull**** about emailing some guy and paying him to give you the unlock codes. OK, well doing this would just pay some ******* to run the keygen for you! **** that! At least there is one snippet of useful information. I'm not sure if this is an important step, but I got my Garmin working using it so you might as well do the same thing! He provides a code XQ4W264PNF3P42WN5XAMC6PTG. When you are asked to provide a map unlock code enter that code. Then, it asks you to register online. Don't! Just ignore it. Totally agree

You can probably enter the same code you entered in the GMAPSUPP.UNL but I just used the code in the installation doc written by *******, so, whatever!

19) In the program, you can read the help file to show you how to get your maps. Basically, here is what you should do;

20) Use the polygon tool to highlight the areas you need maps for

21) Once highlighted they will appear on the left in a list

22) Attach your phone to the computer via USB cable, selecting Mass Media / Mass Storage.

23) In the mapsource / city navigator program go to Transfer -> Send to Device. When it comes up, select GarminXT from the list.

It will then transfer the maps to the Garmin folder on your phone automatically

24) Disconnect your phone.

25) Start GarminXT and go to Tools -> Settings -> System -> Remote GPS -> Select ‘Use Attached/Built-in GPS’ -> Enable and it’s all done. This is where you will need to be patient, my E71 took some time to acquire satellites in my built up area. Until it had them I only had the option of connecting an external BT device. After you have acquired the satellites select 'Built-in GPS' AND enable it.

26) Go outside and lie on the grass, pointing your phone at the sky hahah!!!

No, just Wait for the internal GPS to pick up satellite signal

Hopefully you now have a working Samsung i8510 INNOV8 GarminXT with Aussie maps. If not, post comments on the mininova comments stream for help......

ciao -> p1ierrotee

Thanks p1ierrotee, I hope this helps someone. I woud imagine this works with any S60 OS platform. Good luck and don't get lost...:cool:

I installed Gramin to my Nokia N82 & working erfect. Downloaded Sri Lanka Map installed too but I have few issues

1. I can see city & town name when map open with Mapsource but when loaded to phone I can see only the 1st letter of the town (Eg. K for Kandy) How can I solve this

2. When I try to search address or location, it always ask State. But Sri lanka doesn't have States, so cannot proceed.

3. There are some errors in the map. How can I rectify them (Adding new roads, define one way roards etc..)

I used to have Garmin XT running on my Nokia 6110 navigator with no problems.

Having upgraded phone to N97 I have just followed the excellent instructions for installing Garmin XT 5.00.50 and using mapsource with Europe XT 2010.

All is working fine with the exception of the speed camera alerts.

I have the latest camers from pocket gps and used Garmin POI loader to lad to phone just as I used to with 6110 but they do not show or sound alerts.

Has anyone esle had this problem and fixed?

Thanks

Hi I'm answering my own post here as I finally found the answer myself.
Download this version of the UK & Ireland map and overwrite the gmapsupp.img in the Garmin folder you will then have postcode search :)

sorry if im being boring , but just another question. How can i get the map for KOSOVO , google maps has already made some lines but they're not correct , check it out in hybrid mode. I really need this country`s map , because currently there aren`t more than 10 roads in the whole country. I`ve heard that TOMTOM has all the roads , but i cant get this application for my nokia 5800.

Isn't Kosovo included in SCG Route 2.0?

hmm... i don't know... i think this is apart now from SCG , i dont know exactly , maps differ from each other , google maps separated KOSOVO from SCG , at garmin is still in Yougoslavia , but i heard that TOMTOM has fully separated with whole roads , not only major roads.

Look here: http://www.garmin.rs/dileri.php

It seams like Kosovo is included into the map....
