Unlocking Huawei E220 for dummies (me)

I seem not to get it completly.
So before I buy via paypal please help:

I have a Huawei E220 modem from Vodafone Spain (prepaid package)
This (running with the VF-prepaidcard) is the only connetction to the internet.

I now would like to use the Yoigo Prepaidcard.

I reflashed my modem with following file from Huawei:

E220-UTPSB002D03SP16C03 (Normal) (6870 KB) 14-Jan-2008


The Vodafone Card works. With the Yoigo Card it is possible to enter SIM number, which is accepted without a "wrong or no SIM message"
But there is no Network (GRPS or HSDPA) found, trying to connect is followed by "You can´t connect before register an available network"

Is this a problem because of an existing simlock or another problem.
I do not have a problem to spent 15 Euro, but maybe it is not necessary ?


If I have to unlock. Is this the requested Firmware or where do I get the right (for unlocking) one (please with link)

I downloaded the Multiple Client.
Can I see if the E220 is simlocked without buying the credits first?

How shall I remove the card later (I have read that it is advised while unlocking) ?
But I lose my internetconnection then (as there is no other way for me to go online), how shall I run the unlock then? I think it is done online via the server, or am I wrong?

don't know what sw version U used, but it looks that U flashed application part in card. before buy download client from: http://gsminfo.home.pl/_ftp/guar/KK_MClient/KK_MClient.exe

and select PCMCIA modems and HUAWEI and click READ INFO and paste it here. I'll let U know what next and if is possible.

First I flashed the E220 with the Firmware the Client asks for.
Re-installed E220, works fine with the original Vodafone card. Shows 7.2 Mbit max now.

Downloaded multi-client.
Read says: modem ports not available

De-installed E220 and tried re-installing at all 4 USB ports .
Same message.

Device manager shows same results for all usb ports:

Under "modem" (device manager) "Huawei Mobile Connect - 3G Modem" shows 7 tabs
Under "modem" (tab) it says "Port: Com3"


There is another entry in the device manager named "Ports (COM & LPT) now and within "Huawei Mobile Connect - 3G PC UI Interface (COM4)

5 tabs within and under "port settings" (tab) -- "advanced" it says COM port number : COM4




Tried the Yoigo Card again. It accepts the PIN but does not recieve a signal strengh wether GSM only or WCDMA only is checked.

Anything I can do?
I do not have any other Computer I can install the modem on (computer at work does not give me administrator rights).

Hi there everyone. Operating XPSP2, on a dualcore, 2.80GHz, 1000mg ram. I have a vodafone mobile connect modem Huawei E220, vodafone G3 Spain, using USB 2.0. The promised download speed is 3.6mg, but all I get is 15kb. One week ago for eight hours the download rate went up to 110kb, why I do not know and this speed has not returned; I am back to an average of 15kb. I understand that signal strength plays a great part in download, but the much higher download rate I experienced came at a time when the signal was rather poor. My question(s) is this, is the poor throughput due to some kind of restriction placed by Vodafone ? Or has it something to do with settings in the modem itself ? Or has it something to do with settings on my computer ? And if so what can I do about any of them ?

Also I have recently download a firmware update for the E220 from www.vodacom.co.za/services/mobile_data/downloads.jsp. I have also downloaded VMC 9.3.1.0.8940.exe from the same site. Does anyone know if they will be ok to use for vodafone Spain ?

I mean connectivity sw or whatever is named.
If not help then U can flash application part on UR card with Yoigo(if operator give it on their page in support).

Flashed a different firmware: 11.110.05.00.00 changed the operator software to generic huawei, back again to vodafone after it played up, and it seems like your software is telling me it's unlocked, it can't be as the generic software says wrong SIM... confused!!

I use the cable supplied with the device.

Oka probably not :) so disconnect device and remove simcard and try now.
"EFS not found" U try READ MEMORY option right?

ps. remove simcard on connected device will not take result, U must to disconnect it and connect back

Steps i took:
1) Download KK_Client http://gsminfo.home.pl/_ftp/guar/KK_MClient/KK_MClient.exe

4) Read Phone

I've managed to unlock mine without any credits all i did was use qmat and dumped the firmware looked at the dump in a hex editor to get my unlock code and its now unlocked!

You can do it for free just go to this website

and follow instructions to the letter. I now have the latest firmware and client and i can use any sim card without any problems!

Please don't flame me for this info.

If you don't feel comfy DIY'ing it use the unlocking software KULANKENDI Server.
There is a risk if you do it wrong you might endup having a bar of soap!

I'll sit and cry then :) E220 is old modem for me, new modems out and ppls need always NEW. I even didn't try this, for ppls who start to panic with softwares with more than 2 buttons it can be really confused :)

For a newbie it would still be easier to use KK - I just tried with a hex editor to read and find the right offset for my own modem and the file is huge... i never found the code so after anticipated frustration my mind would just use KK all the way!

knowing my luck people at KULANKENDI (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=390) might try and flame me for this or worse.

But i thought it best to share my find. Its not for the faint heart thats for sure took me in total 8 minutes to complete the procedure! and i'm going to be unlocking another E220 tomorrow so i'll let you know if it be a successful 2/2!

Did you follow the instructions right. It could be that you have a old firmware the one i used was E220Update_11.117.09 and it i found it at 5364 in the hex editior.

Ok make sure you do not update to E220Update_11.117.10.00.00.B268 till after the unlock else it won't work make sure you up date to the E220Update_11.117.09 version first!
