NEW VERSION 05.81

NOTE: Only RM-303 products. NO RM-304 compatibility . To find out which code is your cellphone dial*#0000#.

The most radical change you'll get is a SIGNIFICATIVE increase of ringing or loudspeakers volume, I can really assure you there's a HUGE difference !!!

Follow general steps and ONLY those identified with your cellphone COLOR

Programs required:

-Nemesis Service Suite Beta 1.0.38.12 (NSS) (http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/files/NSS/NSS103812.zip)
-Nokia Software Updater (NSU) (http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163)

Files required:
-http://rapidshare.com/files/98122535/N5310_flash_files.rar.html (Nokia 5310 red color)
-http://rapidshare.com/files/100317421/N5310_blue_flash_files.rar.html (Nokia 5310 blue color)

PRIOR NOTE : Remember always have your phone FULLY CHARGED and SIM instaled. Otherwise you can get a nice paperweight!!!. Confirm you have good internet speed and disable your screensaver or program it for 1 hour delay.

1)-Connect your phone to PC using USB cable (choose PC Suite mode on your phone) and if needed wait for driver installation. The cellphone should always be powered-on and Normal profile activated.

2)-Backup all your info from your phone, via PC Suite or using Backup option to your phone's microSD.

3)-Close any Nokia software or other that uses your phone.

4)-Open NSS, click on magnifying glass icon (right upper corner).

5)-Click on Nokia 6600 icon (Phone Info)

6)-In the block "Actions" click "Scan" button (the cellphone info should be displayed on the left text zone)

7)-In the block "Production Data Edit" click "Read" button. (Some cells will fill with info). NOTE: It's recomended to save/write and later restore this numbers once actualization is done in order to leave the phone with its original codes.

8)-In the "Product Code" option checkmark "Enable" box. Erase the numbers showed (generally they are like 05*****), write the new code which is gonna be:

0546968 (Nokia 5310 red color)
0548679 (Nokia 5310 blue color)

Click on "Write" button and wait until the word "Done" is displayed on the message state box in left lower corner.

9)-Close NSS.

10)-Open folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rm-303
IMPORTANT: Application Data folder is a hidden system folder so you'll have to activate the "show hidden folders" option of your OS in order to access it. I recomend using Start>Run option and copy/paste the address shown to access directly to the folder.
Windows Vista users: the folder addres is: C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rm-303
In case you find any file you must erase ALL. This folder should be completely empty!! Do not close the folder window 'cause you will use it again..

11)-Open NSU. Click om "Start", then "Next". The software will give you two possible messages: (1) that you already have installed the latest version but if you wish you can REINSTALL it, or (2) that there's a new firmware available for your phone so you can INSTALL it.

12)-Either message shown you'll have to click "ReintalL" or "Install" button.

13)-NSU will start downloading update files (which sizes aprox. 33 MB), that's why it's recomended a good internet speed connection.
HIGHLY IMPORTANT STEPS:
14)-When update progress shows aprox. 26 MB downloaded you must "disconnect USB cable from PC" and let download process to normally ends. Then you'll get a message showing that phone connection is lost or the device is not recognized and will ask for connection RETRY. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THIS, I mean, DO NOT CLICK on ANY button and do not close the software!!!.

15)- Go to folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rm-303 and erase the following files:
(Nokia 5310 red color):
rm303__03.63.image_c_red
rm303__03.63.mcusw
rm303__03.63.ppm_c

(Nokia 5310 blue color):
rm303__03.63.image_c_blue
rm303__03.63.mcusw
rm303__03.63.ppm_c

16)-In the compressed file you'd preaviously downloaded,

N5310_flash_files.rar (Nokia 5310 red color)

N5310_blue_flash_files.rar (Nokia 5310 blue color)

you'll find three replacement files for those you've just erased, copy/paste them to the mentioned folder.

17)-Once you have replaced the files reconect the USB cable to PC and click "Retry" button on NSU window.

18)-The software will begin updating. Let this process to end normaly without touching ANY on the PC or cellphone. This process takes about 15 min. NSU will tell you that version 03.63 installation is correctly completed. What NSU doesn't know is that we replaced the files so don't worry for this message.

19)-The phone will restart and will ask for your SIM code. Maybe it will take a little longer loading but once you get to main screen dial *#0000# and confirm that your new firmware is V 05.81
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Any questions are welcome!! Regards!! :)

Thank you. That code is for Euro GSM Zone. Your code is for Asia&Pacific-Philippine GSM Zone...is that right?

There's no problem changing the Product Code because you can latter change it back again to original number following the initial steps with Nemesis Service Software.

What I recommend you my friend is to use Product Code 0558555 and run normally NSU, because for that code firmware 05.91 was officially released and the language pack is the same your phone has right now (English, Chinese, Japanese, Philippine, Vietnamese. With this code you won't have to do anything else but to let NSU normally upgrade your phone. Latter you can change back your original Product Code.

just download 5310 RM-303_DP20_3.00__sw-05.81

then flash with phoenixThis firmware is for Phoenix 2007.44 and there's no crack for that version. It's easier via NSU trick

Yes, it's for Philippines. Just flashed my 5310 per your instruction in the first post. ringing tones and music playback is loud. Still discovering for more changes.

Thank you flamekeeper...

after update.. is it possible to set the product-code back to its original value?Yes, it's possible. All you have to do is the same procedure with NSS. Follow the initial steps and use your original Product Code instead of the code I put on the guide.

If you forgot your original product code then just remove the battery from your phone and you should see a label with some information about the device. You'll find there the word Code, which is an alfanumeric code with 12 characters. Your original Product Code will be a 7-digit code result of the union of the first 6 numbers and the last one. I.E: if you read this

Code: abcdefghijk ---> Your original Product code is: abcdefk

Is it possible to put back a language after upgrading from 3.63 to 5.81 ? In 3.63 I had Romanian, now in 5.81 it's gone.

flamekeeper
04-12-2008, 07:15
Nokia had officially released new firmware 05.81 for all Europe, Asia and Australia!!!

pali2704: Now that Nokia released firmware 05.81 for your country you must set back your original Product Code with NSS (you can see how to do it in my previous post). Then just run normally Nokia Software Updater and select the REINSTALL option. The software will update your phone with the correct language pack for Romania. I did that and now I have my correct language pack (Spanish included)

Hi,

First, I want to express my gratitude for this forum and its participants. This is a great place to learn.

I recently purchased a Chinese Nokia 5310, and I noticed that a lot of menu functions are not present as they would be on a genuine (Finnish) Nokia 5310.

Thinking that updating the firmware might be a good first step, I followed the instructions in this thread exactly and found that the NSS software (Nemesis Service Suite V.1.0.38.12) always reported an error when I pressed the 'Scan' button. Attempting to write a new product code without a completed scan also ended in a reported error. Additionally, neither Nokia Phone Suite nor Nokia Software Updater detect the phone when it is connected using the USB cable - but the phone does show up as a mass storage device on my computer when I plug it into the USB cable and I can copy files to and from it without a problem.

Would anyone have any advice on what to do to update the firmware and software on this phone? I know that it was an adventuristic gamble to buy a Chinese Nokia, but perhaps someone has had a similar experience and found a solution.

With gratitude,

sojournerx :)

Hi,

I need some help, I bought a NOKIA 5310 at vodafone with product code 0558572, it came with software v3.63 I tried to change the producto code to
0548679 wich I guess was the generic (no brand) one and run nokia software update, I get the message saying that a new version was available 5.81 I run it, but I got the phone working with 5.81 (checked *#0000#) but I still have all the vodafone stuff, also my sms were still there, I guess a software update erase everything...

Any thoughts of what happened?

Regards to everybody who had commented here. Let's begin with some responses. First: Nokia released new versions for NSU and PC Suite. Both of them come with the new Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver which is incompatible with NSS and that's why you all get the "error" message when trying to change Product Code (yes, Nokia always making things harder for us!!). So, the solution is uninstalling ALL Nokia software from your PC, particullary using the path Control Panel>Add or remove software. There you will find the new Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and some "Nokia Flash Cable Driver". You must uninstall too those two in order to be able to install later the old version of Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver which works fine with NSS. You can find it here: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4841138

Having this cable driver installed then you can change Product Code (use the one according your phone color). Once you've changed it you can install NSU and run it normally. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE GUIDE'S STEPS FOR NSU UPDATING because the firmware update was officially released for the Product Codes I gave. You won't have to do anything but let NSU run normally, follow all the instruction in the software.

Personalized responses:
sojournerx: If you follow my advices on this post then you can be able to change your Product Code and remove that anoying language pack of your phone.

silviutzu24: If you dial *#0000# on your phone you can see the info about firmware pack installed already on your phone and if you press the "down" navegation button you will see another info concearning the language pack. The last line should be a single letter or a code (like A, B, C or M12, etc). I need to know which letter do you have (if it's C then you can follow my indications on this post and do the normal procedure). Don't worry, all I want is to let you preserve your Rummanian language on your phone. If you don't care then follow my instructions on this post. If you care then reply me so I can give you another Product Code.

mbarros: That's normal because the NSU never remove GSM operator personalization (pitty). The good thing is that you have now a good musical phone with less crashes episodes..and better volume too!!

gustavofehrenba: Your problem is because what I describe in this post. Surely you have the cable driver incompatibility problem. Follow my instructions and you will be fine!

Flamekeeper, you are tremendous! Thank you for your excellent guidance and personal attentiveness.

That language pack is indeed annoying - you truly have a vast knowledge of the incarnations of Nokia out there, and I greatly appreciate your helpfulness and time.

Cheers,

Hi flamekeeper,

The NSS software (Nemesis Service Suite V.1.0.38.12) still gives me the "error" message when I press the 'Scan' button.

Before starting NSS, I did the following:
1. Uninstalled all Nokia software:
- PC Suite
- Nokia Software Updater
- Nokia Flash Cable Driver
- Nokia Connectivity Driver
2. Uninstalled all Nokia drivers.
3. Scrubbed the Windows XP registry using CCleaner.
4. Installed Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver 6.81.1.2.

When NSS software installs, it presents a screen on which the user can choose one of the following options:
( ) Virtual USB Device
( ) F1 USB Device
( ) Nemesis USB Multi-flashing Device
( ) Diamond protective Device
( ) Prodigy LPT Device

I chose the default option of Virtual USB Device. Is this the right choice?

Thank you for your help so far. Any other ideas that you can share with me would be greatly appreciated!

With gratitude,

sojournerx :)

Flamekeeper, i've done pretty much everything you said and it worked but..no romanian language. So i put back the original code and tried to reinstall and i received the message "No software updates for your phone" and only two options: "try again" and "Cancel". So now, for instance, i have the original code (orange) , software version 5.81 and no romanian language pack.
Oh, one more thing, the language pack is C.
What i have done wrong ?

Guys,

Iīm from Brazil, I just bought my Nokia 5310 last week and Iīm interested in the 5.81 firmware for my phone.

It is a RM-303 Red and it currently has V3.63. Itīs code under the battery is: 0559871

I followed the guide in the first post, but when looking for the files to delete in the referred folder i the guide, the filed I found were:
rm303__03.63.mcusw
rm303__03.63.ppm_l
rm303__03.63_ISM_001.image_l_red_5310_TIM

TIM is the name of my cel phone company, and only the first file I listed has the same name as flamekeeper posted, the other ones have similar sizes but different names. I didnīt rename the files from the zip I to the similar ones because Iīm afraid to get a paperweight

1) Can anyone tell me if itīs secure, in my case, to rename the files and update my cell phone? Or should I only wait for it to come available from Nokia?

I deleted the downloaded files in the folder, placed the ones from the zip and clicked the retry button in the NSU without renaming the files, but it started downloading it all again..

2) What is the SIM code? Is it the PIN of the SIM card?

Congrats to flamekeeper and everybody else that may come and help all of use :)

Hello richiricherd,

Thanks for the file. Those 2 files now have the exact same name as 2 of the ones the NSU had downloaded, but I havenīt flashed yet.

Can you, or someone who is sure, confirm to me the following?

1) The third file the NSU donwload for my phone has a very different name then the one in the rar file flamekeeper posted ( it even has the name of the cell phone operator I use ). Can I simply rename and flash? Is it really safe?

2) What is the SIM code? Is it the PIN of the SIM card?

Once again, thanks to everyone.

and yes sim code is the pin of the simcard, the phone will ask for it when update has finished only if you have that option activated.. however that code is 0000 by defect ;)

Hi there guys!

Iīm just posting here to thank immensely thansk flamekeeper and richiricherd ( and google also for bringing me here :p ) for the tutorial and the special files for Latin languages.

I followed the tutorial and everything worked fine. After the download, the update proccess was quite fast and now my 5310 already has fimware v 5.81. Thanks guys!

1) The only funny thing is that after the update and reboot, my cell did not ask for the PIN number, it just booted.

2) After the update process my cell phone lost some stuff: configs I made, and my contacts - it only had operatorīs default service numbers.
On the other hand, no pictures or received files ( bluetooth ) got lost from the cell phone memory. Nothing lost in the expasion card.

3) I took a backup of configs and contacts with the appropriate nokia software, but it only set back the contacts

But it was worth. Thanks guys!

I'm trying to update a Canadian (RM-304) phone to 5.91. I tried using the 0558555 Product Code suggested here, but the NSU didn't find any updates. I can't find a list of RM-304 Product Codes to try, could you suggest one? If you need it the letters at the end of language information are NR0.

Thanks

Courtesy of flamekeeper: Use NSS to change your Product Code to 0558988 if your phone is blue or 0551710 if it's red and then update normally using NSU.

Worked for me.

Sidenote: the update wiped all my carrier (Rogers) customizations and settings. Had to use this to get the web browser working again: http://www.omegacell.com/help.htm

Thanks guys for the hard work.

I'm on t-mobile and my phone code was 0558989 (red). I tried to follow the directions but can't get NSU to see any updates. Every time it says there were no updates (I don't even get the reinstall option). Would it be wise to reset my code to 0558989, then run the update and stop it at ~26% and continue the tutorial there?

Any other suggestions are also welcome.

Edit: Should I try using 0551710 like Sandbox Wizard suggests? I'm not sure what I'd have to do to get the web browser working if the same thing happened to me.

I can't edit my post again so I'll recap what I did as I want as many t-mobile customers to be free from the tyranny of big business in the land of the free. I ended up using 0551710 as flamekeeper via Sandbox Wizard suggested. I did not follow the tutorial in the OP. Perhaps this deserves its own thread in another forum.

Anyways,

I first made a backup of my settings on the 5310. Then I changed the product code to 0551710 using NSS. I ran NSU and updated the firmware normally. This was the only Product Code out of about a dozen that I tried which let me re-install the firmware. Once re-installed, I just restored from my backup and t-zones wap settings worked with Opera Mini and the like.

Dear flamekeeper,
Everything was going alright until step no. 17, when I had to reconnnect the USB cable and click the button in the NSU. When I clicked the update button, it didn't work at first, I had to click it for more than 10 times until it finally started to update.
Meanwhile there was a message saying that the phone was being updated, the status bar remained in blank. And after more than 40 mins. without any changes in the status bar, I decided to disconnect the USB cable.

Then I tried to repeat the whole process, but there's a little problem now: the NSS software SCAN button doesn't recognize my mobile phone (in lower left status bar there's a message saying "scan of product ... Error".

Any solutions?

Thanks in advance from Barcelona. (next time I'll write to you in spanish ...)

Sounds like you have a locked phone, buy codes to unlock it. Debranding will not remove the lock placed by Virgin.

so, i have followed those exact steps, and when i reach the part where i disconnect the phone and replace the files with those from the archive i see that they do not have the same name, even worse the original ones(those that the program downloaded) are for version 5.81 , in fact in nsu i see something like current phone version : 3.36 and update version : 5.81 so it wants to update to 5.81 without me replacing the files from the archive. And i don't know what to do(update without the files from the archive? or change the names?). I would really appreciate some help!, Thanks!

Dude,

Seems like the update is already officially available for your phone. NSU is doing all the work, you donīt need to follow this hack tutorial ( download files, run NSU, disconnect phone, change files, reconnect, etc ).

Just read what NSU tells you.

No matter what product code I use, NSU doesn't let me reinstall the firmware, using NSU latest version 1.4.39pt-br, is there an oldest version that let me do this process? Only options here are [Try Again] and [Cancel]. Using the product code 0546968 it let me install the new fw but without my default language 'ppm_l', the same as cBaldan. What should I do?!

Can I install 5.81 with foreign languages and after that change product code again to restore brazilian portuguese? It would be safe to do so?

Thanks for the great work! :)

Obs: I'm using NSS 1.0.38.14, any problems with this version? I changed product codes many times with no problems so far.

hey folks!!!

first of all thank you flamekeeper for the awesome work.

so this is what happened for me. i just needed to change the product code in order to NSU allow me to normally update to 5.81.

im also from BRazil so I wanted to restore the brazilian portuguese language to my phone, but as well as ZeroCool and other users, my NSU doesnt show the option REINSTALL, even after i restored my original product code back to my phone.

does anyone knows what i can do ?

ps: i've read some stuff about a 5.91 firmware, does anybody knows about this ? does it really exist? and what can I do to upgrade to it ?

thank you very much!!!

Hello! First thanx to you guys, explanations and everything seems really clear!

Actually I just bought 5310 two days ago. Im in belgium and I got already firmare 5.81. I downloaded all files mentioned in the first post but didn't do anything yet. In fact, the only thing i want is to add Japanese linguage in my phone. For the moment I got European language package (letter C after *#0000#); the code under the battery is 0546968.

I'd like to keep Frensh language if possible, but if I can have Japanese and english its ok. What can I do the best? is it another way to add japanese or do I have to flash the firmware? And Can I flash it if im already in 5.81?

Thank you, and sorry if my english's not perfect ;)

Confirmed.
Nokia 5310 is not in the list of supported phone for Nokia Software Updates.
Why is it like that? They purposely remove this phone?
Even Nokia 5300, 5610, 5700 is in the list.

First of all, thanks to everyone who contributed here with questions and answers.

Well, I'm also from Brazil, and I started to make the process, changed my cell code to the one flamekeeper gave, and when I started NSU, the new version it detected was 8.32. Then I thought "why not to update to this new version?". I did it, without doing anything else that has been said on the main post by flamekeeper, after the update process, I just changed back to my own cell code and everything is fine.

My question is (mainly to brazillian people whose cell company is TIM): when the update finished, the extra menu items from the operator was gone, do you know how to restore it? I don't care about the language, I always use english language... =)~

Oh, it's important to notice that the ringing volume increased on version 8.32. I don't know if it increased as much as in the "hack" posted by flamekeeper, but I liked it... Even I wanted it more loud, but patience... Perhaps that's enough...

Thank you!

Follow my instructions and you will be fine!

sir, i still hav the same problem even w/ the this nstruction. please help me

Hey everyone. Flamekeepers method worked for me, but i need a rm-304 code for china or hong kong, either one would work. Also, would the english 304 flash files work with a chinese code? Thanks.

Hi, I just bought the Red Nokia 5310 XpressMusic. I did the *#0000# and it says my phone is RM 304 v5.91, but my language is RM 303 with v 5.91

I haven't done anything to it, it's just out of the box. I bought it as a gift for my cousin in China. I just need the Chinese simplified input added. Will this tutorial still work? I'm not sure since I see both 304 and 303.

Also, I found a list of product codes and pack names on some websites, and specially pertaining to the Chinese, someone bolded the ones that might be helpful. I was wondering if anyone knows which of these include the "Pin Yin" input method and not the stroke input.

Here they are:

0556156 RM-303 APAC S SAKURA RED STROKE CTV_SNG
0557676 RM-303 CHINA-R SAKURA RED STROKE CTV_CN
0557692 RM-303 APAC S RED STROKE OPV_SINGTEL
0562916 RM-303 CHINA-R SAKURA RED STROKE CTV_CN

I forgot to ask a few other questions. I was looking for an "Edit" post button but couldn't find it. Sorry, don't mean to "spam"

I was also wondering what controls the languages on the phone: the product code or the RM-###? I'm not sure what controls what, and if the firmware itself contains the languages or if the firmware is the RM... Debranding the phone in the process would be a nice bonus, but I'm mainly looking to add the Chinese Simplified PinYin input method to it, but not sure what part of the phone controls what. Any insight will be great.

I'm really new to this "flashing phone" idea.
Thanks!
