Phocal (freeware) v 0.30f
Phocal is a little photographer's calculator for Series 60 phones. At the moment it calculates the depth of field based on the focal length and aperture of the lens. With its intuitive and fast user interface it is perfect for one hand operation while holding the camera in your second hand. Phocal is written in OPL and its source code is available under an Open Source license.
Overview
Phocal is a small application on your phone to
calculate the depth of field (range of focus) of a given
lens/aperture/distance combiniation.
Important instructions for Installation
1. Make sure you have the OPL runtime, version 0.30 or later installed
on your device. All OPL applications require the OPL runtime and if
you have installed an OPL application in the past it is already
installed. If you do not find it in the Program manager install
OPL-OS61-030.SIS first.
2. Install phocal.sis
Hint: There are multiple ways to install SIS files on your phone
1) Connect your device with the PC Manager, double-click the SIS file
on your PC and follow the on-screen instructions.
2) Copy the SIS file to one of your device's disks (internal or
the external MMC card) and launch it using a file manager like
"FExplorer".
3) Send them to someone (or yourself) via email, MMS, infrared or
bluetooth and launch the file from the inbox.
Note that you may be warned that the software may not run on your
device - rest assured that it will. If method (1) fails you should try
(2) or (3).
Using Phocal
Use the up/down key on the directional pad to change the aperture.
Use the left/right key on the directional pad to change the distance you
want to / have set on the lens.
You can change the lens/focal length from the "Options" menu. Enter
the new focal length using the number pad and hit "Ok" or click on the
directional pad.
If you are using a digital camera with "crop factor" (your camera's
CCD or CMOS sensor is smaller than 35mm film) you need to enter the
real focal length of the lens (not the 35mm equivalent).
Example:
You use a Canon 300D Digital Rebel with the EF 50mm/1.8 lens. This
camera (like most amateur DSLRs) has a crop factor of 1.6 so some people
say that the 50mm lens becomes a 50mm*1.6 = 80mm equivalent (note that
this is really not true; all you get is a crop from the picture a full
frame sensor/film would have produced at 50mm). In Phocal you would need
to enter the real 50mm as phocal length.
