UPDATE - downloaded LGMDP_OPEN.exe and took a NV Backup.
Next used lg3g.exe to apply the direct unlock option. The message says unlocked successfully, however, the IMEI value was wiped out. Since I'm an absolute newbie chicken so decided to restore from the NV Backup.
Anyway, my LG Shine had survived but I'm still stuck with the original problem - how to make Other Folder's "install" option appear so I could try out http://www.getjar.com/products/14533/Sudoku
Rather than "unlock", I think I need a firmware upgrade, right?
