Avira and AVG 7.5 / 8.0 are made by the same company and detect anything with unknown header signatures ase viruses

Try using a better anti-virus ;)

Which would you recommend? (hopefully a free to download one!;))

Well, okay. Now I've used all the options here.
I used scandinavia map posted in this thread and well, everything seems to be alright until I start it up and the device says "you can't use this map on this device". Nothing else. I've used the scandinavia map posted in the thread, Scandinavia 830-2305 and the 8.413.xl2009_live_2048_tts.CAB-navcore-XL_LIVE.

So... at this point, it still doesn't work. I've patched the dll in tomtom home and I get some form of javascript error then.

Okey, so...

I have dsa-win on my desktop. I ran x40 and pressed install on the device. Then I patched everything with "runforallautomatic" and option 1.
No error whatsoever but it doens't work?

Is there any steps that I've missed? Please tell me, because this is getting nowhere :(

Great news! :)

It's a matter of understanding the philosophy of patching and gathering the good stuff on device (all skins, TTS, ASR, maps, etc.)
It's guaranteed that the dsa navcore generated patch will work, hopefully for the future TT releases too, however premade packages could do an equally good job.

THE FOLLOWING IS A NOTE FROM MSUBEDAR AND THE CREDIT FOR IT IS RIGHTLY HIS.

ALSO NOTE
These Camera files I post up here are NOT POI's.... On most new Navcore's you cannot see them as a POI (However, on some older versions I have seen them visible as a POI), As these are original TomTom files, your tomtom NC will read them as originals after they have been patched to your device so it does not need to show them as a POI. Your TomTom will know what to do with them and automatically will add a warning beep etc which is something you can choose and change to which beep you want etc. BUT AGAIN, THESE FILES ARE NOT RECOGNIZED AS A POI. (For example if you also use SCDB Camera files or PocketGPS Camera's, you will notice that they are available as POI's so you have the normal settings available to you to change if you wish.)

Once the files have been patched to your device (.dct files created) then just put all the files in your map folder (.ver file not needed but no harm is done if you also put them in).

To check if they work: (Tip: I would just switch off any other camera files you may have in the POI section like PGPS or SCDB Camera's to avoid confusion while testing)

Create a route where you know you will be going past a Camera (To be sure, create the route so you are on the correct side of the road, in the same direction the Camera is facing) and in Route Summary, do a Demo of the Route (at 500% is fine) and if the camera shows up whilst its on the Demo and it beeps then you know everything is working.

The ALG (advanced line guidance) works by default with a supported map, e.g. version 830.2305, (in the covered countries/areas) probably others too.

Since you are not sure of what to delete, do the following:

1) Make a full backup of the device, just in case.

2) Erase/format the device.

3) Connect to TTHome, it will give you all possible updates for your device (you might need to disconnect, restart and do a minimal initial setup of the device after the first update offered by TTHome). In case TTHome does not begin the updates alone, then copy back on device file ttgo.bif and reconnect to TTHome/Update.

4) When nothing else can be received from TTHome, install the patched navcore. Say version 8.413 or 8.351 (which is newer).
Make sure that you have the good LoquendoTTS folder from one of my early posts.
Get the ASR folder with the support_asr.dat text file inside (create it), having one line reading "1" (quotes not part of line). The ASR folder is in the v8.351 TT CABinet file. But since a ONE device does not have a microphone, I think, you could skip the ASR part altogether.

I would recommend using dsa.exe, from within dsa-win.zip to patch your device. Select x40, check Install with device connected to PC, open the TT CAB and click the big "Patch" button. Answer "yes" at the end when asked if sure to install on device drive.
Check my recent posts to learn the TT CAB links, LoquendoTTS, dsa-all/dsa-win programs, etc.

5) Install a properly sized map for your device. Apply the Easyusetools.../ RunMeforAllAutomatic program to patch all your maps/cameras on device. Get the latest version that comes with an updated meta.txt file. Again, search/advanced my posts to find the Easyusetools link.

A ASR folder is required for TTS.

A ASR folder is required for TTS.

Well, I am not so sure about it.
I have removed (renamed) the ASR folder on my device and just the mic icon has disappeared, while the computer voice is still working (even after a reboot -- and I mention it because I could do the change on-the-fly with a Bluetooth console).

By the way, I have mended the original BT Console (see it at www.opentom.org (http://www.opentom.org)) (with a newer rfcomm application, easier to handle), I could publish it if anyone interested. Maybe make it part of next dsa-win.zip release (as a new menu 4 item)?

Link to dsa-all.04July09.zip:

http://www.2shared.com/file/6549981/2072f3f5/dsa-all04July09.html

New: a BT Console menu item (Bluetooth Console) inspired by the original BT Console at http://www.opentom.org/Btconsole .
I have slightly anticipated the release date by design... :)

Clicking the BT Console icon switches the BT Console service on and off.

Getting rid of BT Console from your menus is easy, just delete file SDKRegistry\TTbtconsole.cap . To further clean-up, erase also SDKRegistry\bt.bmp and folder TTbtconsole. A similar procedure can be applied to all unwanted extras.

I can share my experience of connecting to the TT device from a Linux/Unix(/Mac?) computer (via Bluetooth):

1) Identify your TT with command:

$ hcitool scan

2) Find the Serial Port BT channel on TT with command:

$ sdptool browse 11:22:33:44:55:66
(use the real BT address reported by hcitool)

The channel will be always 1, so the sdptool command is superfluous...

3) Prepare an entry in file /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf with the real BT address and channel 1, similar to this one:

rfcomm1 {
# Automatically bind the device at startup
bind yes;

# Bluetooth address of the device, see: "hcitool scan"
device 11:22:33:44:55:66;

# RFCOMM channel for the connection, see: "sdptool browse 11:22:33:44:55:66"
channel 1;

# Description of the connection
comment "GO 910";
}

Alternatively, on an ad-hoc basis, issue, as root, commands:

# rfcomm release rfcomm1
# rfcomm bind rfcomm1 11:22:33:44:55:66 1

to setup device /dev/rfcomm1 bound to the real BT address and channel 1.

4) Use device /dev/rfcomm1 with a serial communication program, e.g. minicom, to connect to TT.
Arrange that the modem init sequence contains the return as its LAST char only.
At login prompt enter root (with no password).

I too was dissapointed with my N96 as it had a slower processor than the N95 but the N97 seems to be very fast even with 32gb memory. The handset also runs flash so internet and downloading and watching internet videos very fast. Internal gps lock on very fast with Garmin. Full keyboard is very easy to use both on a desk or when carrying it.( if you like texting it is very fast ) As a lorry driver i can watch films easily with wide screen. And at last they have intergrates the charger and the mico usb in one.
TomTom are releasing v8 for iphone soon so there may be hope again for Symbian which would make this an amazing piece of kit.

I have done this exactly as above except I skipped step 4 like you said and when I am done my device just keeps rebooting.

Then try L34 or even L36 instead of x40. Use TT CAB v8.413.
What type is your device again?
(do not restart from scratch, just overwrite by applying dsa.exe)
(install LoquendoTTS and ASR, but if the computer voice does not work, select a human voice instead -- with TTHome, operate my device)
(you DID run dsa.exe, did you not?)

(you DID run dsa.exe, did you not?)

I'll give it another try...my device is TT One...For some reason I can't operate my device with TTHome it says the map is not valid for my device.

in dsa-win folder extract the exe file
open TT CAB and load the 8.413 file
select L34 install and make sure the drive is listed and hit patch.

TTHome needs patching too...
Firstly in the Folder options, tell Windows to show hidden files/folders too.
If under Windows XP, search starting from Documents and settings for a .dll file that has to be patched, namely:

\Documents and Settings\<your-user-name>\Application Data\TomTom\HOME\Profiles\<something>.default\extensions\Navcore.8.413.1237@tomtom.com\ 8-413-1237-1.dll

for v8.413.
You can patch the file 8-413-1237-1.dll with dsa.exe, open it under section MAP-PATCH, then click on button Patch.

There is space left on device, at least 5MB, isn't it?

select L34 install and make sure the drive is listed and hit patch.

Put the TT CAB on Desktop.
Unzip dsa-win.zip on Desktop.
Run dsa.exe from within folder Desktop\dsa-win, or send it to the Desktop too and run the link from there.
I would still try x40 firstly, in case you did not try it out yet, then L34/36.
Then a human voice (still with x40 firstly), set with TTHome, after patching TTHome too.

Each version has its own dll file to be patched, so yes, patch the 8412 dll if on device will be v8.412.

You could try all available versions, 8.412, 8.413, 8.351.

I would target v8.413, it is the latest. V8.351 is even newer.

Put the cab file on the Desktop (do not extract it), namely:

http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.413.xl2009_live_2048_tts.CAB-navcore-XL_LIVE.cab

Run dsa.exe, select x40, open 8.413.xl2009_live_2048_tts.CAB-navcore-XL_LIVE.cab, check Install with device connected, click Patch, answer yes.
Disconnect device, let it start-up; one reboot is normal.

Even if it fails in the end, connect it to PC and start TTHome. Click Operate my device and accept TTHome's invitation to install the required software. Exit from TTHome, rerun dsa.exe and patch the .dll newly installed by TTHome. Now you can restart TTHome, it will let you operate your device. You will be able to select/add a human voice.

With a human voice selected, restart your device, see if it will work with v8.413 and x40 emulation.
If the human voice does not help, then install L34 or even L36.

Other people managed to run x40 on the One, so test things out methodically... don't panic :)

Is your map on device patched too? With Easyusetools\RunMeForAllAutomatic ? Or other tool.

Is your map on device patched too? With Easyusetools\RunMeForAllAutomatic ? Or other tool.

It is not enough to download a map and install it on device. The map has to be patched too. Use Easyusetools from this link:

http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2086254&postcount=58

Unrar it to the Desktop, and run Runmeforallautomatic from within folder Desktop\Easyusetools...\ with device connected to PC. Select option (1). The device ID will be correctly identified if device connected to PC with file ttgo.bif on it (that is the default after a device restart, but you could restore - from backup - ttgo.bif if not present on device for whatever reason).

OK, good luck, and remember:

1) The map on device has to be patched (with a tool, e.g. Easyusetools...), it is dependent on device's ID.

2) The navcore on device has to be patched, device ID independently, with dsa.exe or a premade package.

3) TTHome's dll has to be patched, each NC version has a correspondent TTHome dll. Use again dsa.exe or another tool to patch it.

"One" owners can run v8.413 or even v8.351 with x40 emulation, at least according to their feedback. With LoquendoTTS, from post #2213 (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=4166847&postcount=2213), I believe (replace your LoquendoTTS entirely -- you will be able to add voices later on).

My friend has a problem: he has Go520 with 2gb card. Now he wants to use 4gb card. How can he copy all files including maps legally to this new card? Major problem is, that the map has been coded (according to f***ing TomTom) to work only with this 2gb card and it can't be moved to any other card. Is there a way to bypass the coding, so he can still legally use the maps etc.? Thanks!

Your friend should copy to computer his map and then restore it to the other card, all via TTHome. Then use the card/map with the same device.

Though I find it hard to believe that a direct copy&paste won't work when the new card is used with the SAME TT device...

Sure it will.
You could produce a new one (x40) with dsa.exe at any time.
But if you still have the "legit" version 8.351 made by me, you will need to patch it (the "legit" ttsystem) with yDGpatch to enable support for all maps - which, do not forget, have to be patched themselves with Easyusetools...\RunMeforAllAutomatic on device, etc.

The legit v8.351 ttsystem is in post #4479 (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=4536597&postcount=4479).

I recommend dsa.exe/x40, of course.

Yes, go for the x40 emulation on the GO 520.
My legit ttsystem v8.351 will work too, but needs yDGpatch-ing for other maps. I fixed only the storage mount code, that's why is called "legit".

The TT GO x00(?), x10, x20, x30, x40 devices, all work with the x40 emulation.
The ONE devices (small, 320x240 screen) work with x40 too.
It appears that the XL devices (wide, 480x272 screen) need the light/lite L34 emulation.
I do not have much of a feedback for the memory or otherwise challenged devices though... That is why I sometimes recommend trying alternatives, x40, L34, L36, etc.

It is not enough to download a map and install it on device. The map has to be patched too. Use Easyusetools from this link:

I think I managed to patch the map properly and the Novcore..again I think....before I could not operate my device with TTHome....it was saying that the map was not valid for my device....but that is not an issue any longer....what I am still not able to do is get text to speech working. I have the computer voices on my device, when I select to use them there is no volume...and no playback I tried the male and female version...I tried rebooting after selecting and still not working.

As per DSA8310 I tried to operate my device with TTHome...this is what happens after I open TTHome:

I close that screen and proceed to operate my device and it works but it does not show the proper settings...it only shows settings for the old version of the device I had there so I can't select the computer voices to activate them....Any ideas....thanks.

New: a revised BT Console (inspired by http://www.opentom.org/Btconsole) that will have a meaningful login prompt even for a non patched NC.

The previous version took into account the eventual renaming of the device modelname (via file motd), but prompting with the real modelname seems better suited for a BT Console of general use.
Not a big deal...

just to make sure I am not wasting my time with the downloads...the files from relink are saving as z files..eg...623084.z01.....is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

Nope, you aren't doing anything wrong. Right click on the .z01 file and click "Extract All".After that all the winzip part files on that folder will be automatically decompressed.

TT Home does not support computer voices. What does your One do, when you try to select a computer voice?

I recall reading in a peer forum that a certain NC emulation would work better with some ONE devices.
If you'd like to check it out, try L34, L35, L36, L13 with dsa.exe too. Try v8.413 as TT CAB source. It's likely L35 or L36, I think, but try them all out.
When installing (my) LoquendoTTS folder, remove the preexisting folder first (afterward run dsa.exe).
Finally, human voices can be removed/reinstalled with TTHome almost certainly. However, the computer voices can be removed with TTHome but they have to be installed by hand, extracting the corresponding CAB file INSIDE folder LoquendoTTS. Available computer voice cabs are in post #537 (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=3903078&postcount=537).

There is a file named LoquendoTTS\default7.session
I have never tried to alter it and I do not know if it would help, but apparently you could edit the last line to read:

"LogFile" = "/mnt/sdcard/a-file-name"

(instead of "LogFile" = "stderr").

Then restart TT, select a computer voice, test it out and reconnect to PC. You might find some error message in your chosen file. Maybe significant, maybe useless...

HOPE THIS HELPS

I remember that I tried to help Ian too and all I could come up with was an mplayer able to play randomly MP3s (and even play video files) - kind of a Jukebox.
This mplayer still exists, only the menu item has been suppressed from dsa.exe (you could check it out via the BT Console or the TomTom Tool by issuing command "/mnt/sdcard/TTmplayer/TTmplayer-wrapper" - but don't hope too much of it - there are objectionable pauses between songs, and the TTS is not solved either).
Maybe Ian found something after all; my hope was with the lite emulations...

I never got the TTS to work correctly on the One XL but it worked OK on my ONE v3.

for truck ,you need to replace the navcore and the map

you also require at least 2GB free space
400MHZ processor and 64 MB ram
you can get away with lower specs, but it will tend to freeze and keep restarting

I don't think you can retreive deleted text...I think you will have to contact your wireless provider and ask if they can get and then you might need to get a lawyer involved.

Speaking of a guinea pig, there is a good chance that your ONE supports my x40light version since the SE x40light version does not start-up on my go910 either. So not booting on go910 is a good sign...

Now, I sort of hope that this dsa_navcore.8413-x40light.zip could work on XL devices too. I am thinking here of Ian's XL device!

I was wondering if there was a live link to this x40light

Ok well, first of all, I had no idea how the thing worked, I was most confused, cos when I added the SD card, nothing would work, I assumed, incorrectly, that the SD card would just be additional storage for the TT, that is not the case, when you insert the SD card, it becomes the only storage source for the TT and the internal memory is no longer used. So first thing you have to do is restore your data from your computer to your SD card. then you have a basic system with your original map on the SD card (in my case UK and Ireland). I then copied over the map to my SD card, and then followed the instructions as detailed with the download. ( I donwloaded it via newsgroups) It came with an activator and patcher which was very simple to use called "easy activator" by Albert Swafega. gtreat little program that did everything, even downloaded the correct meta text, when the supplied one didn't work. All in, it took more time to transfer files than it did to get it working.

Hi Bigboab5,

I have also a TT ONE XL,

What NavCore version did you install?
I have instaaled V8.010-9369 and with that version I can use map Central & Western Europe2GB V830-2307.
When I install NC v8.320-9901, with map W&CE v830-2305 the system stucks.
Thanks for your explanation of the memory and storage.

There is a dedicated truck navcore (NC) that you should use, here is the link to the cabinet file (TT CAB):

http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.332.go7000.CAB-navcore-GO-WORK.cab

Since you have a GO 700 device, you will be able to benefit from the Compact Flash (CF) that makes your internal storage.

There would be a good idea to make a backup of your device before upgrading it. Create a new folder on your Desktop named GO700, for example. Select&copy all items on your GO device and paste them into the new Desktop\GO700\ folder.

Follow this recipe to upgrade your NC:

1) Get folder LoquendoTTS from here:

http://www.2shared.com/file/4903441/fe7fb85c/LoquendoTTS.html

unzip and copy it on device INSTEAD of the eventual existing LoquendoTTS folder (remove the old LoquendoTTS folder first, if present).

2) Download the above TT CAB to your Desktop.

3) Download dsa-all.6July09.zip from here:

http://www.2shared.com/file/6585244/7fdef52e/dsa-all6July09.html

and extract dsa-win.zip to the Desktop. You will get a folder named dsa-win on your Desktop. Inside there is a program called dsa.exe that will do the upgrade for you.

4) Run dsa.exe from within Desktop\dsa-win\
Make the following selections:

a) Check off the box labeled CF.
b) Make sure button labeled x40 is selected.
c) (Re)Connect your GO 700 to the PC and then check off the box labeled Install; you will see that the device drive letter is recognized and displayed in the box below.
d) Click button labeled Open in the TT CAB section (leftmost Open button) and select the TT CAB downloaded at point (2).
e) Click the big Patch button, wait for the patching process to complete and answer "yes" (quotes are not part of answer; end it with an Enter (Carriage Return)) to the only question about whether you are sure to install on drive.
Press Enter at the end of the whole process.

Disconnect from PC and let GO 700 start-up.

Now you will need a proper map.
(To make space on device, you should remove the old map folders first.)

For Europe, Western_and_Central_Europe_830_2305.
For North America, North_America_830_2284.

Search the recent postings for links to download it. You will have to download all parts and unzip/unrar them together in one folder (named as I suggested above). A click on first/any part will do the process automatically if you have the (Windows) Winrar program installed. If not, search for it with the search button on this forum thread.

Copy the map folder to your device.
Get this Easyusetools program from here:

http://www.ipmart-forum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=507860&d=1245679856

Unrar it to the Desktop.
Step inside folder Desktop\Easyusetools_for Keygen_Mapcheck_Metacheck_ttsystempatcher\
With device (re)connected to PC, click on command RunMeforAllAutomatic and choose option (1). Your map on device will get patched. (The device ID is recognized correctly by the program too, press Enter).

You may add surveillance cameras to your map (if it's European) and you should follow same procedure (RunMeforAllAutomatic) to patch them too.

Finally, if you won't find the truck NC appealing to you, you could decide to install the latest NC available, that is v8.351, here:

http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.351-go940.CAB-navcore-GO.cab

Follow the recipe above, just replace the TT CAB with the v8.351 one. The maps are already patched, so you do not have to redo the patching process.

The truck NC could be useful only because you could set limits (weight?) for trucking and hence avoid automatically unsuited roads. Or so I heard.

Hi, I am very new to all this gps stuff.
I have recently bought a used Tom Tom 520T with a map of France included. Trouble is the map does not have an activation code. It says device code is AK8SE ASHTN. Follow advice in post #4875 (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=4640024&postcount=4875).
Start with NC v8.351.
Use the European (v8.30) map or the France map. Find them in recent posts.
Do NOT check off the CF box.

Look here to confirm that you have a @tomtom.com folder for your navcore.

With XP
In C:\Documents and Settings\ User Name\Application Data\TomTom\HOME\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\extensi ons\ Navcore.X.XXX.XXXX@tomtom.com

You get it because YOU have installed a v8.413 (or v8.351) NC on your device, while it should run TT's default, which is different (and worse...)

On the other hand, it is condemnable that TT does not offer to all TT owners the same NC (operating system), adapted to the various hardware configurations... Instead, they do the opposite, they disable NC features while we enable them by patching.

With Vista:
In C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\TomTom\HOME\Profiles\xxxxxxxx .default\extensions\Navcore.X.XXX.XXXX@tomtom.com

I have that folder...........

I wonder whether somebody would have the patience to debug the TTS issue on the One device.

I could identify two processes that have to do with TTS and the Jukebox respectively. If either one does not run on device, that could explain the sound problems. It could be that some error message is displayed when starting them by hand and that could shed some light into the issue, or not...

Unfortunately, the BT Console or the On Screen Console (now I realize that ONEs do not have BlueTooth) and some Linux command line skills would be required for debugging, so it's OK if it seems too complicated to attempt it.

If anybody with the problematic device is interested in debugging, please let me know.

HOPE THIS HELPS

You can use any map, but you should choose Western_and_Central_Europe_830_2305 because it is fully featured.

Western_and_Central_Europe_830_2305 would cover all European countries except for Greece and Turkey, I believe, which have their own separate maps.

jmermel has posted the map links recently, maybe his post #4632 (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=4571248&postcount=4632) is still actual, check it out.

Navcore 8070 is the only navcore that you can select a truck. W&CE TRUCK 815_2112 is the only map with a truck route.
Navcore 8332 has been labelled wrong. It is a WORK navcore and not a TRUCK navcore, like it has been advertised here & on other forums.

BUT GOSH & GOLLY, WHAT DO I KNOW??????

The 700 has a 2.5 GB HD & 64 MB ram memory. Yes TTS will work. If you can find a 720 for a few bucks more, that would be even better, because it has a card slot.

Link to dsa-all.11July09.zip:

http://www.2shared.com/file/6653132/80d59146/dsa-all11July09.html

New: actually there is something "old", :), now it also supports older TT CABs, created before the LIVE series.

There is a small trade-off here, the default emulation has become x30 since the x40 emulation does not exist for the older NCs, e.g. v8.070.
However, people that have played with the on-the-fly emulation and have selected x40 in the end will not notice any difference in the future.
For all, the x40 emulation is one click on the x40 Skin button away at anytime.

But, do NOT click the x40 Skin button if running older NCs that do not support x40!!
If wanting to make sure that an accidental click on the x40 won't disable the unit in the middle of the road, then erase two files:
SDKRegistry\TTSkin.cap and SDKRegistry\TTSkin2.cap
You will hide the two Skin buttons this way.

People wanting to install the older NCs (non x40 ones) should delete beforehand the file named "reskin" in the root of the storage (if present).
Deleting file "reskin" restores the "new" x30 default.

Finally, to answer the truck question, indeed, as tendriver pointed out, the veritable truck NC TT CAB is:

http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/navcore_8.070.9589.go530-go730-go930.cab

I spent a lot of time "downgrading" dsa.exe to support it too! :)

I have also discovered that not all maps are supported by the truck NC. Though a couple of v8.30 maps are supported (among them Brazil, Greece, Hong Kong, Turkey), the W&CE and the NA ones are not.
Though present on device, they are not listed at all, so they cannot be selected.
It is possible that the Western and Central Europe TRUCK v815.2112 map is the newest for this truck NC.

The GO 700 has an appealing CF storage and an USB 2.0 (while the others have the slow USB 1.1 interface).

I have never seen the inside of it, but I believe that the inner 2.5GB CF card can be replaced easily with a bigger one, 8 or 16GB, at a reasonable price.

And, checking off the CF dsa.exe box will definitely make a difference to any unit with a CF card as hard disk - e.g. my GO 910 with CF card and CF card to ZIF/LIF adapter replacing the original HDD :)

I am also looking forward to getting feedback from immz35 who is upgrading a GO 700 unit this weekend.

Well, it seems that this is the newest truck NC after all:

http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.332.go7000.CAB-navcore-GO-WORK.cab

I have noticed that in the Change Preferences menu 6 of 8 there is an icon labeled Car preferences. It should have to do with weight, size, speed of the car. It is grayed out, probably because I do not have the good map (W&CE v8.15 truck).

The older NC v8.070 seems to recognize more maps than the new one above, though I wonder if effectively so.

Making my dsa.exe backward compatible might have been pointless, though a few things have been improved anyway, hopefully for the future NCs too.

Link to dsa-all.11July09.zip, a small bug fixed:

http://www.2shared.com/file/6656099/dbf43a41/dsa-all11July09.html

New: it fixes a nonessential bug related to the skin buttons.

For reasons of backward compatibility with older, non LIVE NC versions, click on the menu button labeled "x40 Skin" in order to switch to the x40 emulation (it stays so until another skin selection).

If downgrading to a non Live NC (incapable of x40 emulation), erase file "reskin" if present in the main storage.
To avoid accidental switching to the x40 Skin, erase both files SDKRegistry\TTskin.cap and SDKRegistry\TTskin2.cap from main storage.

DSA,

I wanted to try to replace my 8.413 NC with 8.351 for my 920 GO (just to try it). I will try to use your tools (thanks!). The tools are supposed to patch the official NC. But in your old releases, you included the PNDnavigator and TTsystem files (which I assume where the ones you patched). Wil your tools generate those files or I will not need them any more once I patch the official cab file?

Thanks

Car does not hardly equate to TRUCK!!!!!!

I hear you, but the icon suggests it has to do with car measurements.

My guess is that TT has upgraded its WORK NC to version 8.332 and has aligned the matching between cars and roads method from hiding maps (as in NC v8.070 truck) to listing all maps but graying out unavailable icons (e.g. Hide lane images, Clear route, etc), here graying out the Car preferences icon with an unsuited map.

Of course, I cannot be sure unless having the W&CE truck v8.15 map, which I don't intend downloading anytime soon... :)

Go ahead, I have switched from v8.413 to v8.351 too (You can switch to any version as many times you wish).

Do not worry, all my packages are generated with both ttsystem and PNDNavigator. A ttsystem that includes the PNDNavigator part takes precedence anyway (the external PNDNavigator is ignored), so you can alternate your patching sources at will :)

Use dsa.exe with the Install box checked off while device connected to PC. Use latest dsa-win.zip from post #4908 above.

Since the default emulation has changed (backward compatibility), it is now x30, click on menu item "x40 Skin" to set up the x40 emulation (until next skin selection).

I am not so sure, both NC v8.070 and v8.332 have the "Tomtom Work" menu item (different icon). TT should have realized that hiding maps is wrong. So they gray out menu items/icons instead in v8.332, which is better, uniform approach, etc. That "Car preferences" item in v8.332 does probably what the other v8.070 submenu Change vehicle profile does: setting car weight, height, maximum speed, lenght, width, weight per axle, and choosing a car profile - car, van, truck, bus, taxi. Provided that the current map supports it.

Interested people could get the W&CE v8.15 map, test out both NC v8.332 and v8.070 and tell us their conclusion - dsa.exe supports both NCs now.

OK, I'm gonna say this ONE MORE TIME!!!!! It is a WORK navcore, but NOT a TRUCK navcore. PERIOD!!!!!!!

This is a quote about WORK 8.332 from an indisputable EXPERT on another forum.

"Now, before we start major trumpet ****ing, the bad bits

It IS a WORK App, so you get a useless Work button in Menu
It is NOT a Truck App - so NO vehicle parameter entry
It is not an x40 App but an x40 style App ( no Voice Control, etc )"

I just installed new 8.351 NC on my GO920 using DSA tools. I did not remove the previous NC, 8.413, just thought it would bereplaced with the new one. It seemed to have worked fine. The device works, and gives me the options for different emulations (20, 30, 40).

BUT I CANNOT connect it to PC. When I hook it up and answer yes to PC connection, devices goes dead. I cannot start it any more, other then performing the reset. After many resets, I still cannot connect to PC.

What is wrong??? What have I done and how do I fix it??

No, I did not patch my TT home yet, but why does it shut down when connected to PC???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Reset the device (you could use the Restart TomTom button) and start it up while physically connected to PC (plug the USB cord in quickly after screen goes black and before the normal restart sequence).
Or a hard reset through the pin hole, USB hook-up and then start.

If it connects (logically) to PC, you are back in control, you could restore a backup, etc.

If the combination Restart TomTom + quick USB hook-up works, it will be the fastest PC connection anyway.

Please let me know how it goes.

v8.351 is TT official for your device, so there should not be any permanent damage.

Trusting TT was a mistake...

I think that they have realized that they don't have enough map/road data to justify a match-up between cars and roads. Probably the truck NC v8.070 was ineffective or too rudimentary for lack of map data. Maybe this explains why there is that "Car preferences" grayed out button in the x20/x30 emulations, regardless of map or (newer) NC. With enough map data they might offer the service in the future, if to trust in TT...

So, you say that making dsa.exe backward compatible to non Live NCs, like v8.070, was good, after all?! :)

No, now I think that both are WORK NCs - they have both the "TomTom Work" menu.
I guess that the v8.070 Car profile menu (what you call TRUCK, but it supports another 4 profiles too) has been withdrawn in v8.332 (there is that Car preferences thing grayed out in v8.332 and all new NCs, x20/x30 emu) for lack of usable road data (maybe map size would become too much with the extra info, TT knows...)

DSA,

It works if I restart the device while it is connected to computer via USB, but I still cannot connect via the normal connect-to-PC mode. It shuts down, and the only way to turn it on is via the reset pinhole at the bottom.

Everything else seems to work fine.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks DSA.

WIll give it a go.

It should connect to PC after reset and start button depressed when the USB cable is hooked-up. This part has nothing to do with the NC on device.

You can update your device SD card with an SD card reader - without the device. You could keep maps on external SD only to update them via TTHome this way.
I also know how to update your internal storage via Bluetooth exclusively.
I hope that it won't be the case. It shouldn't.

Good!
So you are in control, you can update it, etc.

1) Does the Restart TomTom button work? Then, does it work in combination with the USB quick hook-up to connect to PC?

2) Try TT CAB http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.413.xl2009_live_2048_tts.CAB-navcore-XL_LIVE.cab with dsa.exe too.

3) You are using the latest dsa-all.11July09.zip, are you not?

Yes,

Restart botton works. I can now connect to the computer and TT home if the device plugged in before I turn it on, but not via the connct to PC mode. This is not a big deal to me once I can connect to PC either way. Just wandering why the connect approach shuts it down and requires reset.

It's the v8.413 TT source CAB. Give it a try, you could play with almost any source TT CAB and dsa.exe.

If you really want to have the legit v8.351, while the installed version is still v8.351, get my legit ttsystem from http://www.2shared.com/file/6131383/2feea1e6/ttsystem.html and apply to it dsa.exe/map patch -- when opening the file (middle open button), switch from the dll filter to all files. Then put it on device (renamed ttsystem, of course). You will loose the memory savings and the Skin buttons, but it's the cleanest ttsystem v8.351 that will also work on all devices.
I do not believe that it will make a difference, but who knows.

I still recommed TT CAB + dsa.exe from http://www.2shared.com/file/6656099/dbf43a41/dsa-all11July09.html

Great, now would you care to give NC v8.332 a try?

Make sure that you erase file "reskin" from storage, if present, first thing.

I mean, you could use dsa-win.zip/dsa.exe from post #4908 (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=4648373&postcount=4908) together with the source cab (TT CAB) http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.332.go7000.CAB-navcore-GO-WORK.cab to install, temporarily, NC v8.332 on your device. See whether you can change the car's profile with menu item "Car preferences", though tendriver has - almost :) convinced me that's a fat chance to make it work...

Afterwards, you could reinstall v8.070, but... the "clever" way :) with dsa.exe and the source TT CAB http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/navcore_8.070.9589.go530-go730-go930.cab

Or, reinstall it your most convenient way.

Or, maybe not, don't touch it if it works well!

I do the following - opposite? :) :
If there is a PNDNavigator, I use it, of course.
If there is not, then I take /bin/ttn out under the name PNDNavigator (and replace it with a symlink as is the precedent case)

The advantage: by taking PNDNavigator out to the main storage, I save the RAM (a lot), beforehand. That should be good.
The rest of RAM savings come from an automatic procedure, identical to the PNDNavigator one, applied to various binaries. It is transparent to the user (no outsourced folder, etc), there is only a one time extra reboot when a new NC is installed on device.

Yes, unzip the navcore & copy to root. Copy the entire map folder to the root. Download this tool:

I have just realized that I mislead you about how to map-patch the legit ttsystem v8.351.
dsa.exe does NOT map patch a ttsystem, it can only map patch a PNDNavigator or a TTHome dll.
Use yDGpatch to map patch the legit ttsystem - in order to make it recognize your patched maps.

Come on guys,

Lets all try and make this forum a welcome place where people can get along and get answers to problems

I think this forum is indeed for those who do not know and know that do not know. Those who know and know that they know are gladly helping them out.

Dealing with those who do not know and do not know that they do not know is challenging, but not impossible.

Interacting with people from different cultures, ages, and levels of education is always challenging.

Feedback, experience sharing, bug reports are all welcome. Suggestions are too. Provided that they are made in an impersonal and pertinent way. Especially impersonal, it can save from a lot of trouble.

A wrong suggestion can be dismissed more or less politely, more or less patiently.
Refraining from making or answering to personal remarks is a good policy, in general.

However there are things that cannot be adequately explained by stupidity. The dose of malice is sometimes prevalent.
These cases should be denounced. This is exactly what I did and will do.

I booted up my go 700 and i get the message you cannot use this map on this device wester_and_central_europe_truck

I did also download a SE_ttsysten.8070 which i am not sure what if anything i need to do with this file.

once again your help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Unzip the SE_ttsystem.8070. Inside there is a patched ttsystem file. Copy it into the root of the 700 overwriting the existing ttsystem file. This will eliminate the need to run "Patch system".

Yes, unzip the navcore & copy to root. Copy the entire map folder to the root. Download this tool:

http://www.2shared.com/file/6588795/49d6a1c3/KG_V31D.html

Unzip it, click TomTom3.exe, then run "Patch system" & "Make map keys".

That tells me that the map may not actually be patched. Look in the map folder for a file mapname.meta.dct. If it is there delete & run Make map keys again. If it's not there, run Mmk again.

Voices: TT Home, Add Traffic Voices etc, then Voices, either recorded voices or computer voices.

Cams: Go back in the forum a couple of pages and you will find the latest cam download. There are to sets of cam files in the download, TomTom & Premium. I recommend the Premium. Copy the ov2 files that you need from the download into the map folder, then run "Make map keys" again. For future cam updates, just copy the new files to the map folder. No re-patching required.

HOPE THIS HELPS

hello,

I got another question regarding this truck map and NC, I am unable to navigate by entering a full postcode ie 7 or 8 digit postcode, i am able to navigate by the first part of the postcode follow by entering the street name, I would prefer just to be able to navigate via entering the full postcode, is that possible, i was able to on my old NC i have checked all the obvious places on the device for any settings.

So, will his device work a ok, if he switches cards between this older card with official nc+map and this new card with patched map and nc? Thanks!

Dsa, what version are you using?

I can confirm that any of the new v8.414, v8.417 or v8.450 NCs are supported by dsa.exe.

I checked out:

v8.414 with cabinet http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.414.xl2009_plus_tts.CAB-navcore-ONE_XL.cab

v8.417 with cabinet http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.417.xl2009_live_2048_tts.CAB-navcore-XL_LIVE.cab,

v8.450 with cabinet http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.450.xl2009_plus_2048_tts.CAB-navcore-ONE-asia.cab

I didn't look into the differences between versions because I used dsa.exe.

http://www.2shared.com/file/6734499/32e87c13/dsa-all11July09.html

Nothing new, just in dsa.zip (the Linux version) I noticed that I forgot to uncomment the working directory clean-up instruction (harmless by all means). Now it's OK.

By the way, to clean-up storage after testing out the various versions (8414, 8417, 8450 and previous ones) delete folders 8414, 8417, 8450, etc, if space strapped.

I am tempted to use v8.417 for now on my own device.

New: bug fix, in the dsa-mappatch script, but Windows related...

Difficult to spot, until I noticed that though the in-place map-patching of the TTHome dll (for operate my go) was impeccable, the result was actually not working... because of some strange Windows file/directory handling. Now it's OK.
I wonder why nobody has reported it before - probably because yDGpatch is still the predilect TTHome dll patching tool.

The TT CAB patching has remained unaffected.

Unless the Chinese computer voices are needed, v8.450 is less memory efficient (about 4MB worse), so v8.417 seems a better new release.

However, now it's time to test out all three new releases (v8.414, v8.417 and v8.450) to see whether the Jukebox and TTS will work on those One/XL challenged devices.
