Tutorial (step by step) How to flash LG KP500 - cookie

In this tutorial you will see how to flash lg cookie with new firmware.

1.) BACKUP
- First off all you should make a backup of your phone files (contacts, messages ...) because after flashing, all the files saved on the phone will be erased. I recommend that you use LG PC SuiteII.
- Dont forget to unplug your phone.

2.)DOWNLOAD GSMULTI AND FIRMWARE
FIRMWARE LG KP500 KP500AT-00-V10n-DEC-17-2008 (v10N) NEW!

3.)INSTALL THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS - DRIVERS WORKS ONLY ON XP WINDOWS
(Don't connect your phone on computer yet)

Downloaded files should be un-ziped (I unziped them in one folder which i made it on desktop)

You got next files:
program
- SETUP_GSMULTI_V30
- KP500_081002.dll

firmware
- KP500AT-00-V10n-CIS-XXX-DEC-17-2008
- KP500AT-00-V10n-CIS-XXX-DEC-17-2008.bin.mbn

3.1.) Install GSMULTI (SETUP_GSMULTI_V30). The icon will shows on your desktop otherwise the program install on C disk, folder GSMULTI
- start GSMULTI
- select: Settings/Configuration

- put .dll file and firmware file in and choose USB then click OK and close program

3.2.)Install DRIVERS (INFINEON and TI_NEPTUNE)
Drivers to be found in install folder of GSMMULTI program. My path is C:\GSMULTI\UsbDrivers

- First install INFINEON
- Second TI_NEPTUNE

4.) PREPARE AND CONNECT YOUR PHONE
- Now u take a phone (shut it down) and remove, BATTERY, SIM CARD and MEMORY CARD then
- conect it with your USB cable to computer (I suggest that u connect only in one USB port on computer)
- wait about one minute that comuputer recognize new device


5.) USBMap PROGRAM
- Run program USBMap_V01 (which can be found in C:\GSMULTI)
- Select INFINEON and then click MAPPING START

-WAIT (about one minute) that USBMAP will find USB port where is the phone connected
- When the port will be found click on (select it) and press SAVE&EXIT


6.)MAIN PART - FLASHING
- Run GSMULTI program (shourtcut is in your desktop)
- Check if settings/configuration are the same like we set it before (otherwise look step 3.1.)

- Now its everything ready to start flashing
- Check MODEL and SW VERSION and if that is correct just click START and wait until the program finished

IF u use usb cable of KE500 then it will take 554sec for full flash, if u try to flash it with usb to serial cable then it will take 7500sec.

I am trying to flash my KP500 and have followed this guide closely by downloading and installing the required Dlls and firmware. I am now at the screen where I connect my phone to the PC and am using the LG-GSM multi download software and when I click start" I just get the "Wait phone connecting" message. I have left it for two hours and nothing has happened. Does it take a few hours to flash or is there something I am missing to trigger the upgrade software?

And soon you can unblock it too ...free..

I am new to this site. I could successfully update KP500AT_V10b to V10n as described in this forum. However I wanted to take a backup of V10b version prior to update. I could never get flash backup using methods described in many such forums. I don't think there is any issue with methods described. What I noticed was that the Flash Loader utility was loading and unloading on both Win XP and W2K on two different computers. I have no clue as to why this is happening. Hope someone help me out as I have another phone with V10b from which I can take a backup. I did not face any problem with v10b like restarting, slow response, hanging, etc on any of the two phones.
Please note that LG PC suite worked perfectly with both the phones but I could never get even file explorer going. All suggestions are welcome to try and post to help others who could be facing similar problem. Advanced "Thanks".

Oops. Mistake. Learnt only GSMMULTI uses flash loader utility.

However I could never get EFS file exlorer to see KP500. It keeps connecting and disconnecting with a flashing message "waiting". May be the explorer does not recognize KP500?! Anyone to throw some light on this? Thanks.

So does anyone know how this will work if my phone is stuck on the startup loop? It shows the LG logo for about 2 seconds and shuts off and does it again. So it doesnt have enough time to connect to the program or computer before it restarts. Any suggestions?

first you disconnect phone, then execute program, click start, and then connect the phone. it will start flashing!!!

i had my phone stucked in the logo, and now its 100% OK!!!!! thanks....

just follow the instructions, and start software first, and connect phone after!

First, after I flashed my phone, it was inserted into the computer via USB. At the last step when it flashes the phone and its complete, the phone restarts by itself. This is the stage where I follow gueddes666's instructions to unlock the phone, however, being silly as I am, i removed the USB cable from the computer and the phone switched off so i couldnt get into the menu. I didnt know what to do, so I inserted the USB back into the computer which started flashing again, no harm done to the phone, after it finished i tried to do it, without simcard but it said thats its the wrong code. Also, when I did it the next time it restarted by itself and the LG logo came up instead of the usual optus logo that comes up when i start the phone. What does this mean exactly? can someone please shed some light? Does this mean that my phone cant be unlocked anymore? I tried a few more times but still it didnt work. im not sure how many times but i can still use my phone on optus, which is what it was originally but everytime I put in my vodafone simcard which is the one i want to use it says USIM Locked. I faced same problem, then changed PC and everything was fine. May be some other driver of OS causing problem.

Funny is, in the first PC KP500 can't detect in USB map, but KC550 detects in 2 sec.

My cookie was almost dead. Whenever I tried to turn it on, the LG logo would keep blinking and won't start up.. until I found this thread.

To those having problems with usbmap, here are some tips:
When you connect the phone to the PC, wait for the PC to detect it. And then a found new hardware wizard may come up. I ignored the hardware wizard and proceeded with the usbmapping. Nada. So what I did was to disconnect the phone, reconnect it and then allowed the add new hardware wizard to install the necessary driver. Then I ran usbmap and voila!! in a few seconds the port was found.

I hope this helps.

Check and cleans usb cable/phone connectors for sality or use another usb port. also ensure u are using usb port on pc and not a usb hub.

if u have never done the procedure on that particular computer, i recommend u try on a diferent, xp based, computer... im saying this because i had a very similar problem and that turned out to be the solution. The computer that failed to connect had windows vista os (also windows 7 beta)... i just tried everything on my neighboors computer and it worked!! ;);)

1- Flash phone with a unbranded Software Version.
2- once finished enter 2945#*71001#
3- NCK is asked and enter 00000000
4- Phone Unlocked.

Phone must be without sim card.
