Important !

I found this one on the net:

We strongly discourage the installation of MapSource V6.15.3 - it will erase all previously installed Swiss Topo maps and you will have to delete and re-install ALL MapSource products !

There's also a report on incompatibility with Topo Great Britain:

Just updated my Mapsource to 6.15.3 and the program now will not start and reports "reinstall Topo Great Britain". I have tried this and get the same problem!

Mapsource will only start if I uninstall Topo Great Britain v2.

These reports add to other problems the latest version of MapSource has:

Compatibility issues with some free maps;
Distorted aspect ratio (Screenshots (http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/lofiversion/index.php?t212175.html)) which I suppose is a result of preparing MapSource for 3D view;
A permanent problem with re-calculating routes which contain the same waypoint more than once (e.g. A > B > C > A);
Missing custom waypoint-symbols (which can easily be fixed).

While the listed problems constitute for the majority of users only an annoyance or can be easily fixed or circumvented the incompatibility with some commercial topographic maps has to be considered critical. :(

Solutions
Unfortunately Garmin decided to implement several changes in their newest (City Navigator 2009 series) maps which make them (out of the box) incompatible with the last flawless version of MapSource (MapSource 6.13.7). So just not using MapSource 6.15.3 can't be considered to be an effective remedy. It is necessary to convert the new maps so they be used with the trustworthy MapSource 6.13.7. Fortunately Popej created a solution. It's a zip-file which contains several .BAT, an .EXE and some read-me files. You can download it directly from his Website: Konwersja CNE v001 (http://www.anpo.republika.pl/files/conv-cne-001.zip).
Just follow the instruction in the read-me files.

Popejs solution works - out of the box - only with City Navigator NT Europe 2009 and not with the North America version. To convert the CN-NA, you'll have to make some modifications:

Open here613.bat and edit it to implement the following changes:

REM following set defines map
set MAPNAME=CNNANT_2009_10
set TYPNAME=I000018C.typ
set TRFNAME=%MAPNAME%_trf.trf
set MAPFID=396
set MAPFIDHEX=8C01
set KEYINST=CNNANT2009.11

Then proceed as indicated in the read-me.

G'luck!

ps: If somebody tries to convert the Oceania versions of CN2009 please tell us about the results, problems and solutions. Thanks!
