MapSource is a software for PC to manage maps for Garmin equipment. With it you can view maps, and create/modify POIs. You can also create .IMG files and send them to your unit.
There are basically two types of maps available for Garmin-units:
.IMG maps (usually these are sold on a SD-card)
Such maps are not intended to be used with MapSource. While it's still possible to make them MapSource-compatible they will then not be searchable.
Maps for MapSource
Intended for MapSource and fully functional with it. Before you can use them on your unit you'll have to create (with MapSource) a .IMG and send it to the unit.
The CN v9 is quite old. The maps have much improved since then. A CN 2009 would be a good idea.
Greets,
Frank
thanks for that explanation mate appreciated
