Hello all,

This will be a long post but hopefully it will help out some people.
I got my GU87 a couple of weeks ago and I was determined to find a way to deactivate the camera sound. I found what I needed and a lot more. The only problem is that it took hours searching through several forums and web pages to find bits & pieces of info. Hopefully this post will put a lok of good info in one place to simplify the search for others, especially GU87 Nubies like me.

-Mike

Service Codes

*#9999#
Shows the phone's software info including version numbers.
Turn off the phone & back on. When the phone displays "Searching for Network" enter the code.
If you timed it right the last # will not show on the screen when the key is pressed and
the info screen will display in a second or two.

*#06#
Displays the phone's IMEI number. Can be entered at any time.

746, Menu Button, Menu Button
Opens the Service Menu. This is where you enter in the unlock code for your phone.
Use the "Network" option or the line for your carrier's name, i.e. "AT&T", press "Unlock" & enter the code.

As a followup, I'm still looking for some more info:
1. More Language pack files and what languages each supports
2. Info on Branded Firmware (AT&T, O2, T-Maobile, etc.) for those who want to go back to what their phone came with, i.e. for warranty service.
3. More firmware for versions that I don't have listed (A16, A19, etc.)

Thank you,
-Mike

Congrats on a very useful knowledge dump.
I to have been trying to track down language lists for a while but short of having to **** the various firmwares into a handset.......
If I find one I'll let you know.

Keep up the good work, it is appreciated by the forum!

Cheers

it will be interesting to find the way of "creating" new languages... (if that would be possible... i don't know)... for example to create Catalan (Alcatel and Siemens mobiles include it)

Thanks v much , lots of useful info . However (yes i am rather new........sob) I've recently aquired a gd87e (other half upgraded) + am trying desperately to unlock it. I have a usb datacable and am running windows Xp , using the logging program i have it reports a time out error and connection errors (it is set on the right COM port etC) -- anyhows , is this because I am running winxp - - is there any program about that could help me generate a unlocking code - - and if so could you link me to its location ? . . .

Many thanks : )

OK, there are a couple of things here:

1) What version of firmware do you have on your phone? Some of the GD87e phones have A39, which is not supported by the cracked unlock code reader.
2) Have you insulated pins 4+10 on the phone before connecting the data cable.
3) What COM port is the USB cable set to - some people have reported problems if the cable is not set to COM1

If you have A39, then you can either find someone who is selling remote unlocking logs for the later phones, or downgrade, unlock and then upgrade again. The latter has the advantage that it's free, but it will alter the configuration of your phone and is quite risky.

In particular, the Infusio downloadable games almost certainly won't work after you reflash the phone, although this may not be an issue to you.

Fankoo for quick responce.... firstly

Tis running on COM port 1 (tried other ports too) , I have no problem using phone manager programs , or the editing program that comes with panareader (apart from panareader itself) the problem comes when i try to use any 'cracking/logging' program
- -just does not seem to like it whatsoever

Software (guessing i type in *#9999# ) = A19-19

as for

"2) Have you insulated pins 4+10 on the phone before connecting the data cable." . I dont quite understand what you mean (probably the problem here lol) - -could you please - explain/clarify . .

Thanks very much for your help : )

OK, the software version is fine, so there is no need to worry about that.

It your cable works with the edit tool, then it's a data cable. In the wonderful world of Panasonic, this is not the same thing as a unlocking/flashing cable. The basic differerence is that the data cable has a link on it that tells the phone that it's a data cable, and the flashing cable doesn't. Also, the flashing cable has no connection to the DTR line, and the data cable does.

In practice, this means that if you want to use a data cable for unlocking your phone you have to cut two narrow strips of tape and stick them over pins 4 and 10 of the connector. If you look at the bottom of the phone with the keyboard up, pin 1 is at the left. So you need

Keyboard here

<3 pins><1 insulated><5 pins><1 insulated><4 pins>

Battery here

Then it should work
