i found this message on a website www.nepwaarschuwingen.nl (it's in dutch). and was wondering if it is possible (not how you can do it but just if it is possible).

i will try to translate the message into english, the second text is the original dutch text:

if you receive a message on your mobile phone with the request to call 0141 45 51 14 back, don't do it! because when you do this that someone can call on your costs.

if you are called by are person who identifise himself as your calling provider and asks to typ 09# on your device, don't do it and hook up the phone.

these codes make it possible to extract the data from your sim-card, copying these information, and use it on a new blank sim-card and then he/she can call for free on your costs.

These forms of gsm-fraude are officially confirmed by KPN and Libertel.

watch out!, these types of fraud are being used on big scale.

If you receive this message, please send it to as much as possible persons!!!!!

NOTE by me: this message is being noticed as FAKE!!! so don't send it actually to your friends. it's just for me to hope on a reply on my question asked earlyer.

Not possible... technical details aside, the phone could never transmit data wich it does not have, like the KI...

Yes it may be possible, it happen in Portugal, at a few years, people call, and them tell you to mark something on the phone...
And then ... is just said.

I don't know how it work, but the phone credit decrease ...

They can't clone your card remotely, that was my point...

About the rest... I have my serious doubts about that thing about pressing a number and stealing other people's credit... lots of people talk about it but I actually never seen it happen before my eyes...

That has been classified as urban myth on many sites...

09# is just location 9 of SIM ADN

maybe when you are phoning, 09# was not just a sim ADN!

Maybe, but then it's provider dependent, and you can ask your provider what is (if any) purpose of that string.

1st: thnx for all your reply's

2nd: the 09# string is only on your home phone not for your Mobile phone (the text says this).

but the text message which asks to call back to a specified number is ment for mobile phones. Could it be that there is some device connected to that phone number which can get the necessary information to clone a SIM?

No... at least with COMP128 cards... there's no way for the other side to know your KI. and without it they can't clone your SIM.

The best they could get (and I seriously doubt it'd help) it would be the IMSI and Kc... with this, depending on the operator, maybe they'd be able to place a call... but probably not...

I think Kc is updated everytime you log on to the network (as a result of a "seed" beeing sent by the operator at "logon" and using the KI). So it'd be kind of pointless...
