Recently bought the smart-clip and i've been trying to update it but with no luck. I've read all the other threads on this forum and i think it could be that i'm behind a NAT/firewall. The only problem is this can't be disabled and i don't have a dial up modem to try.

Does anyone know what ports the update program is trying to use so i could set the forwarding up on the router?

Alls i get from the updater when on auto is:

Looking for clip at 0x378
Run Under Adminsitrator Privalidge

and when i select the different ltp ports 1-3 i get the same but with "Clip Not Found" underneath (i know its on ltp1)

I've change the lpt settings in my bios between ecp/epp/bi-directional. The cable is a brand new belkin which should be fine. The power light is red and the E/G light is green. Is this all correct?

Ok i just remembered my brother's laptop has a built in modem, tried that but got exactly the same response from the update program (no firewalls/anti-virii/pop-up stuff running) so that kinda leaves the the cable or the smart clip. The cable i have is:

is that the correct one?

I'm gonna dig out my old scanner to try the cable but got knows where it is at the moment.

Are you using XP?? If yes set Administrator setting

The account i'm using has administrator rights but i just logged in with the default admin account and i still get the same problem.

I think it could be a winxp thing, the first computer i tried it on was a win2k comp with a direct connection to the internet, but that threw up a /portsys.dll error or something (a windows error which i think its that computers problem, not the updating program)

The other computers i've tried it on are this one (winxp pro behind router, another xp pro comp on this same router and an xp home laptop on this router and with a dial up)

I'm gonna get a mate to test it on his old win98 computer and see if that works.

Just unlocked its first phone, a v500 no problems, but it gave an error for an old v66e (tho looking at the firmware update list the v66's are now included)

me thinks Faulty Clip m8

I have no problems with XP and 98se and never had on several PC's works and logs on everytime through a router with NAT and Two Firewalls running if you have tried two PC's and Two cables and also changed BIOS to EPP/SPP then you are only left with a faulty clip, unless you are running some Antivirus software thats blocking the connection like PCCILLIN.

Contact your reseller he should have tried it before despatch.

PS: You have tried the obvious havent you like a 9Volt PSU which it tells you to do on the update site before trying because it might be a flatish battery (RED + GREEN leds are correct by the way)

PPS: Jeez I just looked at your belkin lead and it could be the length of it I have had Problems before with leads this long, borrow a printer lead off someone you know

My next port of call is to try it on a win98 machine tomorrow. Hopefully that will work, if not i'm gonna have to get in contact with my re-seller.

As for a shorter lead, i'm not sure if it was just me but i had so many problems trying to get hold of any 25pin M-F lead. This was the only one i could get, after going to every computer shop in town and about 10 different online stores, this was dabs.com's very last one.

It could still be down to a dodgy lead for all i know, i don't have a single bit of legacy hardware i can try this cable on, the scanner i eventually found but it works as a pass-through to a printer an needs a 25pin M-M :(

I've been using a mains 9v powersupply so that shouldn't be a problem, and the light is coming up green, i tried with a new battery to make sure and got the same response

Hi Hezza

I forgot the printer lead terminates with a centronics 36 way connector and not a 25 way D connector so you are going to need that next.

If it makes you feel any better I just got my 15 Mtr 25way to 25way Male to Male lead out, plugged in a gender changer and tried it with my Smart-clip and sure enough it wont log on to server so there’s a possibility that’s where your problem lies mate.

I'm still getting abit confused over if i've got the right lead or not. The LPT port is a parallel port right? and the com ports are serial? would the actualy cables make any difference, are any wires switch around or anything?

Basically if i've got a 25pin Male to Female lead i've got the right one is what i'm asking?

Gonna give the box to my mate so he can try it tonight on his 98 machine, see if that works.

Hi Hezza

You are correct the Port you are working with is the 25Way parallel port nothing to do with the serial port mate.
As long as ALL the wires in the lead are connected then it will work
Basically all the lead is, an extension of the printer port from the back of your PC so Pin 1 on your Pc printer port becomes Pin 1 on the end of your cable and so on up to pin 25
get a Mutlitmeter and check it out.

The link you placed dont work no more but I think its the right lead other than it maybe too long.

Hey brother I got the same problem as you. Cant even update or unlock a V525. So is your problem solved?? Hope to get some advise from you.

Nope, i've had no luck, tried updating it on another 2 computers, a win98 and winME machine and same happened and with a different cable

Managed to unlock that one v500 but all the other phones i've tried since need the update, which i just can't get to work.

Gonna call the reseller i bought it off and send it back, get them to send me another one already updated.

Today I tried to update my new Smartclip but his already updated.
You did`t say that you using external stabilized 9v power supply.Are you?
With battery today I can`t make communication with clip and SCReader.exe
wbr.

p.s. don`t turn back this is wondeful clip, today I was unlock c650.

update using windows 98 / me works 100%

I try today with 2 pc with XP. Seem like the program issnt compatible with XP. Hopeful the writer of this program will do something soon if not its very inconvient for alot of customers. Maybe need to borrow from my friend to try it out on his Win 98.

This is not a problem with XP I use XP home And XP pro behind 2 firewalls and a NAT with no problems at all, Try it on windows 98 First

I try on all my XP PC all cant work. So no choice try on my friend Win 98 n it works. But now got a problem cant unlock the V80. Headache already.

Yeah i was using an external 9v power supply with no luck.

I've spoken to the reseller i got it off and i'm sending it back with the cable i've been using so he can check if it is the cable or clip, and he'll send it back updated.

When Smart-Clip updates it makes a pause in the process. When update is completed by 70% it pauses for 5 sec and then resumes. Don't disconnect or turn off the clip untill the process is complete and you see this sign:
update successeful
New firware version 1.15
Just wait to see.

Dun keep trying as the server might think alot of clip are connecting at the same time. If cant u wait awhile then try. Dun keep trying.

Are you able to login for the first time? If u can then should be any problem, u just need to wait awhile cos the server is slow at times. If u still cant u got to email the support time and they will assist u step by step. Do keep me updated :)
