51xx charging problem 5130 (5146) NSK-1 v5.51 Plug in the charger, the tiny charger symbol appears, nothing happens for about 10sec then the NOT CHARGING display comes up.
Phone works fine in every other way.
The charger is genuine Nokia and I've tried several including car plus different batteries. The only source it will charge from is a regulated power supply set to 7.5 or 9 volts. The only thing done to the phone is unlocked (Rolis) - didn't think to check charging before unlocking. Anybody seen this/know a cure? |
Try cleaning the battery contacts m8? might help? |
Thanks ModaFone, no joy, though. The only time I've seen this before is a 5130 with a bad flash (the MCU controls the charging, also) Not that this time, though, the phone works fine. |
Check this, sri no blocks onlt txt but it might help out............. this is for the 5110, donīt know if they are the same. If you want themanual contact me. Many thanks, mate. The model is the same on the power side. I'll check that thro and let you know. I'm surprised nobody else has met the problem. |
I have a similar problem that you mentioned, with the 5110. However, the charging works fine if I connect the phone to the standard (non-travel) charger. Fast charger gives the same output as you report. Car charger sometimes does the same, sometimes works fine (almost: the battery gets very hot!). |
Thanks for that, ******z. Do you know what your chargers give as the DC voltage output for the "travel" and for the "fast"? Your problem is similar to mine in that mine seems to charge OK with a regulated power supply at about 7.5v but it is a problem with my Nokia charger. I think it is what is called a "fast" charger. The label gives 4.5v to 10.5 volts as the output. For a 3.6v battery, 10.5v has got to be fast! I shall set up to do some tests, but, if anyone else has more information, please let us know. kage |
If my 51XX had the reported fault , i would :- measure C103 with meter if short circuit or low resistance , replace C103 (1uF 35v). 95% shure this will repair replace V100 (never seen one go faulty) 5% shure this will repair the other 5% is that your chaps ic (N101) is faulty or energy management needs re-calibrated. Hope this helps C103 is the large polorised capacitor on the bottom left of pcb (mad ic side of pcb) |
Try also other battery coz sometimes the parts inside the battery is deffective and need to be replaced. Thats why it also displays NOT CHARGING. :) |
Thanks to eveyone who helped - now know the answer. Borrowed an old transformer type charger (non-travel) and worked OK. Tested a few volts and found mobile will only charge if charger start volts is between 7 and 9.5 Travel charger starts about 10.5v Don't have the wherewithall to re-calibrate so a zener in the charger is what it going to get. kage |
