crashing nokias READ

I keep hearing about this soft (possibly called smsclient) that can send a malformed sms to nokias like 6210 and crash them, also if you recieve a call and the name appears as ACE if you answer it , it wil corrupt your sim.
These warnings are circulating my work via email from the managers.

anyone got any info on this plse??

the programme is for linux and is called smsclient. it doesnt freeze your phone or anything, the program has to be modified to send messages with a broken User Data Header (UDH). the edited version is not available on the net, but i guess if you know anything about programming you could edit any sms sending program to send broken udh's.

If you send this message to a new 3310, or any 3330, it will crash when opening the message:

hahaha (send it as unicode using a PC)

The phone freezes, and restarts after a while. The fun thing is tht you can't even delete it, because on a 3310 you have to open the message to delete it! so if you send many of that, the "victim" will end up with a full sim-card, and can't delete the messages!

(it can be deleted using another phone or a PC)

yeah that is another way, like the unicode character which causes blinking text the phone does not know what to do and crashes. if you can find a website that allows you to send sms and choose what the message reciepient is and put that character in. now the phone will freeze everytime the inbox is opened which is slightly more annoying easilly solved by putting the sim in another phone though, or maybe a software upgrade

Dave.W: actually, a software downgrade will fix it.

I don't understand why, but only the NEW 3310's have this bug. Shouldn't they fix bugs instead of create bugs in new SW versions? lol
