I have been repairing cellular phones since the birth of the Motorola Ultra Classic. I believe I am in the position to theorize what happened to the fixed "water fall" case. Water is indeed a good conductor of electricity and is usually the cuilprit for almost all the cases of Isc (short circuit current) presence. However, If the conductive properties of water was not utilized for a time long enough to do damage, Water will not harm the circuitry electronically. It would however leave corrosive elements that shall cause corrosion, especially on the solder joints. That's one of the weird chemical properties of lead that I hate. Anyway, the best solution shall be to wash it completely with clean, running water, with a good cleaning agent, better than soap, that is. (but w/o anything, soap will do) Then the key here is to not let the board dry by itself. ****-dry it with a hot-air SMD rework station, not a hot-air pistol, please, with the heat set to minimum and air set to max. The reason why we have to dry it is so that we will not allow the corrosive agents of water to do its thing on the solder joints, and the reason why we would not use heat high enough to melt led is to ensure that we wont get those little amount of moisture trapped inside lead. I'm sorry but I cannot see a logical explanation why "waterfall" cases fixed this way would not last long. No offense meant guys, just trying to share. With best regards, Muscleman |

Member: 4847 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | y? simple do u think water is enuff to clean BGA? Distilled water is a good solvent but not enough. Why unreliable to last long? simple water is invisible damage is invisible you can't predict where are all the damaged areas When you use a hot air gun to ****, it only cause joints dat oxidised to be slightly conductive and work. Unawaring to most techniquens, corrosion and crystalization dat still exist will result in cracks and pierce into the board. Thus, it only works for a while before the next major problem arise. |

I can tell u that that the best thing for cleaning out a water damaged phone is Carbon-Tetra-chloride it is a chemical used in dry cleaning that totally evaporates. it may be hard to get hold of but this stuff is the Bo****cks i have been cleaning out electronics with it for years and as long as the phone wasn't in the water long enough to short circuit any components it will work fine no S**t nuff said later |
