Member: 6034 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Thanx man, I thought that if you use a partial flash to unlock the phone, and then go to nokia service to update the software, that it will remain unlocked (i mean if the service updates the software with unlocked version). SO where does the phone store the information about lockes if even updating the MCU and PPM software bu nokia service it will still remain closed ?! |

The best example is patching the Logomanager. For example, you have a patch for the version 1.2.0 and program runs without the "DEMO". That patch actually "fixes" the code to ignore the registration restrictions. But once you install a new version of Logomanager like 1.2.1, your patch no longer works coz of the newer version of the soft and the code it fixes is no longer in the area that it fixes in order to remove the restrictions. The same is true with the flash on the phone. That "FLASH" is actually the program that operates the phone on how to connect to the GSM network, how to receive and make calls and messages, the works. It's the Windows program of your phone, the interface between you and the phone's inner workings. What happens when you update your phone is like installing a new version of Logomanager from version 1.2.0 to 1.2.1 and therefore the patch for 1.2.0 no longer works, and in return the Logomanager remains to be "locked" as a demo program. Unless the phone was unlocked thru a "normal" way, like using the Nokia Service Center's authorized equipment or whatever you call it. It's the same as obtaining the registration code from Mike Bradley so that your Logomanager will work without the need for patching and with support for further versions. That "registration code" is not stored in the phone's flash, but like the separate registration code on the regfile and registry, it is stored somewhere else like in the EEPROM, and/or maybe other ICs as well. As for the question if they will able to see if somebody tampered with the phone's flash. Well, since you said "it is illegal in Estonia for a nokia service point to update a phone if it is locked" then the first thing they would do is to check what service providers the phone was "locked" into. They'll check its MCC/MNC, GID1, GID2, etc. The values found on these fields determine if the phone was locked or not. As for the question if updating the phone's version should result in an originally locked phone, Yes, if they didn't unlocked it themselves by changing the values in the fields mentioned using their authorized equipment. |
