Ad******* Questions???

I would like to ask a question that's been bothering me since the day I started this career...

Boss we all know what ROM is, right? We also know that it's the part that is written and there should be corresponding ad*******...

What's bothering me is, how about the area that's not written, WHAT PART IS IT???

Let's take for instance:

1st question

Back to Basic...

DCT3

Nokia 3310 "Start 200,000 - End 400,000" Full Flash, then HOW ABOUT me asking, where's this written "000,000 - 1FF,FFF" is it the Allotted space for RAM?

2nd Question

How about DCT4

nOKIA 6600

NOTICE: When Flashing?

Full Erase Start 0x00000000 - 0x007FFFFFF

Details of ERASED AREA

MCU
00000000 - 007FFFFF
04000000 - 046FFFFF
047C0000 - 047EFFFF
06000000 - 066FFFFF

PPM
02000000 - 020DFFFF

WHAT IS IN HERE? Just a free space? Space OF RAM?
Unerased Area:
00800000 - 01FFFFFF
020E0000 - 03FFFFFF
04800000 - 05FFFFFF

wheeeww...

Ideas or comments are welcome.... FACTS are better...

Thanks....

hi,

in dct3, the range of adress lower than ROM are firstly I/O address space and then RAM like u guessed.

in dct4, i dont know. i never looked at that. but probably the same.

i think maybe the range of address not erased between ROM chunks may be alread 0xFF so no need to erase..
these area could be reserved for updates to firmware in the future...
maybe.

br

also, in the dct3, the area ABOVE 0x400000 is actually same as ROM area, just mirrored a few times.
