Nokia Counterfeit phones ??

Hi

A colleague of mine bought a 6230 and only a week later the text fell of one of the buttons, he naturally called a service center and wanted it repaired/exchanged on the guarantee.

They told him that they wanted to see the phone as they had encountered counterfeit phones. I have told him that i dont believe that someone had copyed the 6230 and that they were probably only trying to string him along so that they did not have to repair/exchange his faulty keypad..

Does anyone here know if there is any possible truth to this claim... ?

The phone totally feels and operates like a real 6230 but that is offcourse no guarantee..

well for a start do you think someone can actually duplicate the whole electronics and chips? what's the point when they can just get a 6230. i don't think it is possible. the text on a button dropping off maybe just a keypad fault....buy a new one.

Firstly.. I am very skeptical about the ability to copy the chips, not that it cannot be done because it can but i would also think it would involve quite alot of skills ..

Regarding the why do a duplicate, well the reason is obvious. If someone could duplicate the phone it would be possible to sell it at a cheaper price and still earn money on it as the counterfeitter would not have to pay for the R&D work.. Counterfeitting is big bucks these days..

Regarding the "just buy a new one" i agree, but when a nokia repair center says that they want to see the phone as it might be a counterfeit i start to wonder if there really IS copyes of phones out there..

or maybe there is other reasons? people shouldn't decide right away until the final answer is in the open. personally i think maybe a small few have but early days. how can we spot a duplicate anyways?

The service center might be refering to phones that are second hand and reconditioned And is being sold as brand new. which of course has
counterfeit housing, keypads , backcasing , stickers, box and accesories. This happens to all nokia phones ( even for new phones models that are just release for less than 3 months by nokia). counterfeiting the whole phone is not economically viable since phone
prices fall very fast.

The simple answer is the service centre needs the phone to make a warranty claim to nokia for the repair/replacement parts and also to check for customer damage ect.

Cool N73 copy (not)

I am not sure of 6230, but I have seen on the web Chinese copy SE, Samsung, Nokia of course. I actually have bought a N73 copy during my last trip to Asia; if they claim to be N73 copy! IT IS NOT! ie. 5-7mmm shorter, smaller screen/resolution, side keypad keys, top button do not work, front camera is for show only, no led/flash, no bluetooth, no radio.

It is an example of western tech and Chinese 'free' trade

The box have did not claim to be N73 copy just mp3-mp4 phone; correctly so but the looks leave no mistake as well as Nokia boot logo. Why did I bought it, curiousity and it was only for the price of a mp3-mp4 player.

its strange but true..i have seen countfeit 6230i.i had 6230i in for service.not charging prob.so as u do,i opened up the fone.to my amazment the fone was missing a large number of components which was a shock also the battery connector was manually soldered along with other ic and resistors.the pcb was a dark blue.the lcd, keypad module, speaker, mic, charging jack and vibrator looked orginal.the frimware was v 3.62.so i sent fone to my friend at Nokia service point.he checked the fone and told me it was counterfeit!!! i returned the fone back to customer and asked him from were he bought the fone, and for how much?he purchased the fone for £65 new boxed.so i contacted the reseller he had 20 pcs for sale @£45 each wholesale.cash sale no returns.all china imports.also 8800 @£120 each.all counterfeit.SO BE AWARE.of fake nokia fones.

there are definately counterfeit 6230 and 6230i - but minimal compared to other models..

i bought 20x 6310i, only to find out they were all counterfeit (but i didnt know when i bought them) ..mainly can tell by printing and poor soldering around led's - etc. also - phones were not tri band, and had 3310 power amps installed (price cuts??) lol

would think it would be easy to do, just print the boards and have the machines to do the work for you!? all this only happens in CHINA!!

gotten worse though now a days - easier to pick the copies i.e - you can see 8800 being sold on ebay as MPEG-4 phones...... pathetic!
