Nokia 6100 Development Isue - GSM-Forum

Hello to everyone!

First of all, please excuse my poor english writing

) !
I do not know if this is the right forum to post my problem, but hey, hwo knows, maybe my questions will receive some answers.

This is what I want to do: modify the code, or let's just say write a patch for the Nokia 6100 code (and for similar phones that are based on the same processor and allmost the same architecture) ment to implement suport for playing wav audio format or mp3 format. In order to do such a nice thing I need any sort of information regarding the microprocessor the phone uses (it would be great to have the data sheet for the processor - architecture (meaning port implementations, timers, ADCs or DACs, internal program and data memory organization, etc.), mnemonics and instruction set, etc. and information regardind the entire PCB - need to know what kind of memory is beeing used and how it is connected to the data bus, etc..
I have quite enough embeded systems development experience on all sorts of data aquizition board based on both RISC and CISC types of processors and hope enough determination to do such a thing.

I am willing to go as far as it takes - meaning to write an assembler and disassembler for the CPU, do reverse engineering to the orginal code in order to insert new routines, etc.

I am not happy with the phone software that the Nokia engineers provide for the Nokia 6100 series phones. At least, not with the stupid support for the audio media types. The phone is great and I think one of the most elegant phones ever provided by Nokia, but poor on display (it would be great if the LCD controller would support 65k LCDs, maybe it would help us to change it - offcourse all LCD routines from the original code would have to be replaced) and very poor on audio media support.

Anyway.... if someone can offer me some documentation about this phone (any sort of information would be great) please reply to this post or contact me on e-mail.

WOW! You must be very experienced ... Before you will develop solution,think about price.I mean I will rather buy new 6230 (new with guarantee and without problems) than buy 6100,buy 65k display (from 6230),buy your solution and pray for success of the operation...

Buy 6230 and you will be happy for the same price...

The part in my post where I talk about an LCD change was ment for those people wich are crazy about their 6100 and don't whant to change it. I will not do any research right now regarding this matter.
My problem was to find people to help me get the documentation I need in order to write those patches I mentioned for those audio formats. If something like that will happen, and finaly I will manage to write those patches and modify the original code... be sure that the new binary code and the source code for all my work will go over the net for free!
I'm not interested on making money from this kind of stuff...
I'm interested on adding some experience!

I love Open Sources and all the free stuff in the world... especialy free and open source software. Why? Becouse this helps other people to get some extra experience and learn for free. In the end this leads to better software (free linux and unix distributions are the best examples)!

Anyway... I think that if a third party code for Nokia 6100 series will be available in the future and if that code will be there for free..... then nobody will be angry

)
I just whant to see this working... And about the development cost... well, if we are just talking about the code: it's allmost nothing! Even more than that... I'm learning for free!
