Nokia 8800 - security code on startup!!

hey everyone,
i have a nokia 8800 - which when turned on asks for a security code.

it doesnt give the 'insert sim' prompt, or anything. it just asks for a code as soon as you start it up (with or without a sim inserted). i have tried the DCT3/4 MCode calc (which normally works fine for me) but no luck.

you do not even have the option to type anything other then the security code (i.e. - *#06# to find the imei - etc) as it just asks SECURITY CODE!!

does anybody know if the Mcode calc should work with the 8800 model?

also - any way of finding the imei without hooking it up to a computer (i dont have the dongle)

i need to know, because the phone was in pieces when i got it - and there is a chance that the imei on the sticker is not the imei of the board .. therefore the calc wouldnt work anyway!!

any ideas or suggestions appreciated!

thanks
chris.

main thing is finding out the imei without having to hook it up to the computer

is it NORMAL to have "security code" as soon as phone is turned on, even without a sim?? i have never had a 8800 before. is this new? in older models even if there was a phone lock - it didnt say enter "security code" until you have the sim in and you are trying to get into the phone?

thanks in advance!
chris.

Don't forget that you can start such phones WITHOUT sim card inside. It's just normal security code like with sim card.

hey again!
yeah it is a phone lock - it has had a security code SET to ask on phone turn on.

BUT the question is - is it normal for it to ask for a security code as soon as it is turned on? because normally it says insert sim - etc FIRST!!?

and on that screen you can type in *#06# - and get the imei!!

but as soon as i turn the phone on - first screen is SECURITY CODE!!

any help is appreciated thanks heaps guys and girls!!
