Member: 48064 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | 8310 keyboard 1,4,7, and # not working A Nokia 8310 put in the wash. Dried out but keystrokes 1,4,7, and # not working. Otherwise device works as before. Can receive and make calls using the device's phone directory. All other key strokes seem to register ok. LCD ok. Have opened up the key pads in question and cleaned but problem remains. In other posts have seen a reference that chip Z301 should be replaced. Another posting suggested that the device be 'reflashed'. Would replacing the keypad and LCD assembly resolve this problem? Or do I have to accept that this device is beyond economic repair. Advice suggestions gratefully received. Regards PM:-) |

Member: 48064 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Thank you for taking the time to reply tp my query. A further question if I may. How do you change the z301 keypad filter? Does changing the LCD and keypad assembly acheive this? In other words is the z301 keypad filter mounted on the keypad pcb? Again thanks for yoyr help. PM:-) |

Member: 48064 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Prompted by GSMSELL I found the following archive http://www.gsmzone.co.uk/Manuals/Nok...ervice_Manual/ This is a copy of the 8310 service manual and troubling shooting guide. From this I have found out that the Z301 is not on the keypad assembly but the main circuit board. This appears to be a surface mounted device and therefore can't be replaced by a 'novice' without special equipment. Can a repair shop replace it economically or is it a 'sell for spares' situation? Member: 48064 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Medz, Thanks for this suggestion. Have cleaned the IC with a cleaning spray but with no success. Looks like it will need to go to a service centre. Just curious--how do they change the z301? Again thanks for your help and interest . Regards Peter_Muir:-)) |

Member: 48064 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Medz, I am pleased to report that 'all' the keys are now working properly on my 8310 and it functions properly in all regards. Your advice to 'clean' the ic was the difference that made the difference. It had never occurred to me to do this. I dismantled the phone removed the main circuit board identified z301 --see earlier post this thread about inding out its location--applied WD40 and left the board to stand overnight to allow the WD 40 to penetrate. (Plainly I did not leave it long enough yesterday for the WD 40 to work its magic to dewater the board. I suspect that your contact cleaner approach is better as it doesn't leave a residue--the WD40 does). I've done this 'project close report' in the hope that others may find it useful if they, like me end up washing their phone. Again thank you for your help. I know I and other will find it a very useful addition to the 'toolkit'. Regards Peter_Muir |
