Service Battery Problem?

I made a 5110 (BBD-3, or BTD-3 style) service battery out of a old Li-ion battery and I changed the resistor so the phone recognizes it as a service battery. The problem I have is that the FLA-7 output voltage is 8.3 VDC which means the voltage to the phone will be the same if connected. Is this normal or will I damage the phone if I connect it to the service battery? I thought that the voltage to the phone was supposed to be around 4.0 VDC? Is there perhaps some sort of voltage regulator inside the Nokia service battery?

Thank you for your support,
rsmith

Yes original service batt keep the voltage all the time at the same aprox level, you will damage the phone for sure if you give him 8.3V...
it is not enough to change the BSI resistor to be "detected" as service batt...

Well, that does make sense. Does anyone happen to have the Nokia service battery schematics (BBD-3 or BTD-3) so that I can build a battery that will regulate the voltage and not damage the phone.

Sincerely,
rsmith
