Simulate battery problems...

Hi,

I'm trying to power an 8210 with a PSU so that the phone remains powered on. I've done this many times with other phones.. and tried the same with this one...

The pads on the back of the phone are:

+ BSI BTEMP -

although 22k from BSI to + and ~1k from BTEMP to - doesnt work.. it works the other way around so i'm wondering if the battery really is:

+ BTEMP BSI -

Anyway that's not the real problem.. With it connected:
BSI <--22k--> +
BTEMP <---1k---> -

it works like a service battery, powering up right away. It also locks onto 1800 networks. BUT if i put in a 900 network it searches, and at the point it switches the tranceiver to 900mhz the phone resets. I have a 2A bench supply connected to it, and i see it go over current at that point and the current limiter kicks in.

It can't possibly need a 2A or more burst?! Is there some momentary short on one of the pins? Do i need a diode?

Its happening on every 8210, so i'm sure its not just a fault phone.

I saw in the service manual some diagram of the real service battery with some over voltage protection, so maybe i need something like that. The alternative is to put in a capacitor, but i would rather not!
