Field test software alternatives? - GSM-Forum

I work as a subcontractor for mobile companies. I need to make a testcall after finishing work on sites. I need to lock on the channel/carrier and make a 2G phonecall and a datacall.

For Nokia phones you can buy the Field Test software (very expensive) and use menu 1.12 to lock on a channel and make the test calls.
Are there any alternatives to the Field Test software? Preferably something that is legal and free/cheap.
