Member: 459233 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Unlock StarTAC GSM Check this page for some very good information on earlier Motorola GSM phones: http://www.tele-servizi.com/Janus/motpages.html Everything you need is there. To unlock the phone you need a few things. 1. Pre September 1998 firmware loaded on the phone. 2. A copy of ASIM. 3. An interface to use ASIM. 4. An older/slower computer with a serial port running DOS (if you don't have a slower machine running DOS, run DOS on a new machine and run ASIM with MOSLO (http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/). It works great on my Dell D620@2GHz. I have DOS loaded on a USB Stick and boot to it when needed.) Once you have all of the above run asim and the "clone.dat" file. Plug in the interface card to your already powered up phone. Press 03# and with any luck you'll have an unlocked StarTAC. Worked great for my StarTAC 7000G. If you don't have pre September 1998 firmware, then this method won't work. If you find a pre-September 1998 bin firmware file, then you can build a BDM (Background Debug Mode) interface (simple) and use liberator BDM or BD32 to load the firmware into the phone. The CPU on the phone is a Motorola 68338 and the firmware and EE memory is easily backed up and loaded through this method. I love the 68K. It's a fantastic CPU. I've been using the 68K on and off for projects since the early 90's. Anyway, all the info you need is on Janus' web page listed above. Good Luck! Now if somebody could just e-mail me the 81-01-42 flash file I need for my 8000G's I'd be a happy camper. Cheers, Trev |
